The Demons are the primary species in the Disgaea series.
Demons are a species that inhabit the various Netherworld spread throughout the series and are constantly acting with malicious intent toward both the player and other Demons.
While there are many examples of Demons being kind and supportive to others, even going on to be known as heroes, most Demons are incredibly selfish to the point they will often assault, kill, steal from and betray all other Demons to get what they want.
Appearance[]
The appearance of a Demon varies drastically depending on if they are a Humanoid type Demon, which looks almost identical to a human baring some demonic features, or a Monster type Demon
Behavior[]
Demons are predisposed to be as cruel and distrusting as possible for their own gain, because of this, trust is an extremely uncommon thing in the Netherworld with most Demons only teaming up out of necessity or because they're being paid to work together. There are some demons that overcome this cruelty such as King Krichevskoy and the residents of Toto Bunny but these instances are more rare than the opposite.
Because of how cruel they are, Demons often throw their own Netherworlds into chaos in an attempt to gain more and more power, money or even the position of Overlord. Because of all this chaos, most Netherworlds have an Overlord in place, an Overlord being the strongest Demon in said Netherworld and is tasked with keeping all of the other Demons in place in order to prevent this chaos, however, most Overlords only take this title because of the perks and benefits it gives them.
The relationship that Demons and Humans have is complicated. Quite a number of Demons take up the task to instill fear into humans, making them terrified of Demons and what humanity doesn't understand, this creates Fear Energy, a power source that travels to the Netherworld and empowers and sustains demonkind, however, most Demons typically leave humanity alone since there is very little benefit and there are always other Demons that generate Fear Energy.
The relationship that Demons and Angels have is also complicated. Demons typically leave Angels alone, thinking nothing of them but also not really trusting them, this is because most Angels are incredibly xenophobic towards Demons, viewing them as a lower class of barbaric lifeforms. There is a mutual understanding that Demons and Angels have where Angels allow Demons to scare humanity since this also makes humanity pray to God which gives Angels Awe Energy.
Subspecies[]
Most Demons come in one of two types, Humanoid or Monsters.
Humanoid[]
Humanoid Demons are the type of Demons that are indistinguishable from the average human. Sometimes these humanoid-type demons can have bat-like wings on either their heads or backs as well as having pointy ears like an elf.
Because these Demons are so physically similar to humans, they often wield the same types of weapons that humans wield such as swords, axes, guns and spears.
Monster[]
Monster Demons are the type of Demons that have more monstrous or at least, non-human features, more often resembling an animal or monster than a normal human.
Because of their more monstrous physiques, Monster type Demons are physically unable to wield normal weapons, instead having to rely on special pieces of equipment that increase the strength of their claws or other bodily. Monster type Demons also have the incredibly unique ability of Magichange, allowing them to turn into a weapon that other Demons can wield, however, this is only done with beings that the Monster Demon trusts since being a weapon render the Demon completely immobile.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Unique Skill/Abilities: Demons can have various unique skills or abilities which are dependent on the exact species of Demon they are or what type of training they have.
- Overload Skills: If a Demon ever becomes as strong as an Overlord, one of the strongest types of Demons, they will gain access to a special type of skill called an Overload skill. An Overload skill is a special ability that is unique to that type of Demon and is dependent on their personality.
- Immortality: Demons naturally live absurdly long lives with many of the Demons throughout the series being well over one thousand years old without any visible signs of ageing after a certain point. Demons are also extremely resilient when it comes to surviving lethal wounds, often only needing a light bit of medical attention in order to heal wounds that would be fatal to a human.
- Superhuman strength, speed & durability: Demons are immensely strong, being able to casually destroy planets, stars, solar systems and even galaxies with simple attacks.
- Magic: Demons are able to use the mana that they absorb into their body in order to cast powerful magical spells. These spells can be fire, ice, wind or star elemental spells or healing spells (Something that is heavily looked down upon).
- Weapon Mastery: Humanoid type Demons are able to use and master a variety of weapons, these weapons include swords, spears, axes, staffs, guns and bows and arrows.
- Magichange: Monster type Demons are able to transform into unique weapons that can be used by other Demons.
