Biography[]
He makes his first appearance when Kogoro (who he hired) revealed that his young wife, Ineko, has been cheating on him with an unknown lover, even exposing her disguise (due to her small mole on her face). While upset that his wife would be unfaithful towards him, Denjiro asked Kogoro who's the unknown lover but he revealed that he hadn't figured it out yet. Just then the doorbell rang and asked somebody to open the door, only to remember that he told the housekeeper to waste time due to Kogoro being here and instead went to open the door himself, greeting the guest and taking them to the cottage.
After a few hours, Kogoro decided to check up on Denjiro, only to bump into a servant, causing her to scream as Ineko arrived and wondered who Kogoro is. Upon learning that Denjiro hired him, she asked the servants to bring her husband here to the cottage as she begged Kogoro not to reveal her affair and even agreed to pay him double what her husband paid him in order to keep quiet. Unfortunately, it was too late as Denjiro was find stabbed with a katana. As Megure was trying to figure out who was the killer, three suspicious men arrived at the Maru estate, each revealing that they came to see Denjiro. The first was Ikuya Hatano, a doctor at Beika Hospital, the second was Makoto Akutsu, a famed engraver and the third was Yuji Suwa, an instructor of Suwa Dojo.
Kogoro (in one of his failed deductions) claimed that Yuji Suwa, who was also a skilled swordsman, killed him due to all the cuts all over the room, until he revealed that he came here to repay a load he asked Denjiro a while back. To make it worse weird about the case is that Denjiro's corpse is holding the sword with the wrong hand, meaning that the killer staged the cutting of the room. During the case, it was later revealed that Ikuya is Ineko's lover and even confirm that neither him nor her are the killer due to being at the hotel all day when the killing happened.
Later it was believed that Makoto is the killer due to him arriving to the estate to ask for an extension for the 10 million yen he borrowed and to check on his dragon statue he created, which was the only thing that wasn't cut, which once again, lead to Kogoro accusing him of doing the crime. Conan then began his own investigation where the drawer of the cabins gave him the answer of who killed Denjiro. Once again Conan used his tranquilizer dart watch to knock out Kogoro and solved the case.
Conan (via Kogoro) revealed that the culprit is none other than Yuji Suwa, who explains that he couldn't be the killer until Conan revealed one piece of evidence, the drawers of the cabinet as it turns out that when Yuji who messing with the answering machine (and erasing Makoto's), Denjiro used the last of his strength and sword to write Yuji's name as a dying message to revealed Yuji, who upon seeing the drawers and message, decide to take each drawers and switch them in different slots, then added a few more markings on the cabinet so it couldn't be recognized, But thanks to Conan asking Megure to rearrange them, Yuji's was discovered to be the killer. Megure wondered what was the motive for killing Denjiro since he brought the money and Yuji (in defeat) then revealed that he did it because of a sword, and not the one he used to kill Denjiro but rather a different sword, which revealed him as a villain.
It turns out that the sword he was talking about was an antique one that was passed down from generation to generation in his family and he gave it to him to hold on to when he give him the money back. However, Denjiro revealed to Yuji (who was the guest in the beginning) that he sold it and declared it as interest for the loan. Learning that his family heirloom is gone, Yuji used the sword that was on the wall and used it to cut Denjiro in the back. With his plan expose, Yuji attempted to kill Kogoro using the same sword but upon seeing him just sitting on the floor just before the sword barely touched him, Yuji admit that Kogoro must be brave for not even fletching when the sword was about to strike him and even bowing to him (not knowing that Kogoro's is asleep).
