Dennis Nedry is the main antagonist of the 1993 film Jurassic Park, the first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise.
He is a troublesome and overweight InGen computer-network engineer for the successful dinosaur-cloning faculty he was ordered to program without many details on what the park actually did and was called to the island to fix numerous bugs in the system. His meddling resulted in the dinosaurs escaping and going on rampage and berserk, as well as the deaths of several characters in the film, including himself.
He was portrayed by Wayne Knight, who also played Newman in Seinfeld, Krudsky in Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King, The Penguin in Harley Quinn, Al McWhiggin in Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2, and Emperor Zurg in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.
Biography
Sabotaging the Park
After Nedry got hired by John Hammond, he asked him to pay him extra money for his work, but Hammond refused his offer. Eventually, Lewis Dodgson arranged a meeting with Nedry and offered him $1,500,000 to steal embryos worth of fifteen dinosaur species from Jurassic Park's labs for his company Biosyn, and gave him a canister disguised as Barbasol shaving cream to store the embryos inside.
In order to do this — and make a swift escape from the visitor center and drive away in a Jeep Wrangler — Dennis Nedry had to turn off the park's security systems, including the electric fences surrounding the dinosaur paddocks, with the exception of the raptor fences (due to the fact they were the most dangerous dinosaurs due to their speed, agility, and intelligence). Without electricity power, the electric fences turn off and shut down, thus allowing all the dinosaurs, except the Velociraptors, to escape.
A Deadly Encounter
Later that night, Dennis was driving toward the docks to deliver the stolen embryos when he got lost in the jungle during the angry storm and accidentally hit a stack of logs. His car got stuck, so he had to get out and use a winch to help him get out of this dilemma. Unfortunately, for him, while looking for a tree to tie the other end of the winch to, he came across a juvenile Dilophosaurus. The dinosaur was initially curious and hesitant, cautiously sizing Dennis up. Flustered and knowing practically nothing about dinosaurs or how they behave, Nedry frantically tried to shoo it away with a stick. After that, he said to the dinosaur he'll run it over when he comes back down.
Eventually, the animal concluded that Dennis was weak enough to kill and the Dilophosaurus began spraying venom in Dennis' chest and then into his eyes. Dennis, now blind, attempted to make his way for his car, but hit his head, causing him to drop his Barbasol can. He scrambled into the Jeep, but upon closing the door he immediately realized that the Dilophosaurus had found its way into the car, where it subsequently mauled and devoured Dennis.
Results of the Theft
The actions of Dennis Nedry led to the death of at least four people, including himself, on Isla Nublar. In the years that followed, it led to a positive advantage for the dinosaurs on Isla Sorna. The dinosaurs were originally created as tourist attractions, but thanks to Nedry, the dinosaurs were released into the wild without any fences, guards, or even government involvement. Sometime after the incident, Dodgson collected the Barbasol can that Nedry used to steal the embryos, and used it as a souvenir.
In a deleted scene for The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Nedry is the only deceased Jurassic Park employee that Peter Ludlow doesn't mention, and Ian Malcolm said that the incident left only three people dead (Donald Gennaro, Robert Muldoon, and Ray Arnold), while Dennis is a fourth victim. Assuming this isn't just a mistake, then it can be presumed that no one learned of Nedry's death and assumed he got away without any consequences, or alternatively, everyone knew about Nedry's death, yet didn't feel any sorrow about it.
The origins of Jurassic World were built upon Dennis Nedry's actions in 2005, as InGen, now under the ownership of Masrani Global, did everything to prevent the same thing that happened to Jurassic Park about 12 years earlier. In 2013, Dodgson, Nedry's employer from Biosyn, became the company's CEO, and two years later, the park ended up the same way as the original despite InGen's efforts, at the jaws of the Indominus rex. A year later, Dodgson went on an expedition to Isla Nublar with Mantah Corp president Daniel Kon and the latter's son Kenji, where Dodgson retrieved the Barbasol can he gave Nedry 23 years prior.
The incident at Jurassic World later led to the creation of the Indoraptor, by extension, and dinosaurs escaping to the mainland in 2018. Four years after that, Dodgson began having his scientists create giant locusts to be unleashed on his competitors, but Jurassic Park's original guests Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm discovered Biosyn's plot concerning the locusts, and Dodgson was eaten alive by a Dilophosaurus pack, the same species of dinosaur that killed Nedry 29 years ago.

LEGO Jurassic World: Legends of Isla Nublar
Nedry's nephew, Danny Nedermeyer, followed his footsteps in order to destroy Jurassic World by releasing the dinosaurs and get the treasure, but releasing the dinosaurs briefly succeeded, but finding the treasure failed.
Quotes
“ | Oh! Dodgson! | „ |
~ Nedry's first line. |
“ | Nedry: See? Nobody cares! Nice hat. What are you trying to look like, a secret agent? Well? Dodgson: $750. On delivery, $50,000 more for each viable embryo. That's $1.5,000,000 if you get all 15 species off the island. Nedry: I'll get them all. Dodgson: Remember, viable embryos. They're no use to us if they don't survive. Nedry: How am I supposed to transport them? Dodgson: [opens a Barbasol can with a secret storage compartment] The bottom screws open. Nedry: That's great! Oh, my god. Dodgson: It's cooled and compartmentalized inside. Nedry: You guys, that's great. Dodgson: Customs can even check it if they want to. Nedry: Let me see. Dodgson: Go on. There's enough coolant inside for thirty-six hours. Nedry: No menthol? Dodgson: The embryos have to be here in San José by then. Nedry: That's up to your guy on the boat, 7:00 tomorrow night on the East Dock, make sure he gets it right. Dodgson: How are you planning to beat security? Nedry: Well, I've got an 18-minute window. Eighteen minutes, and your company will have 10 years of research. |

“ | Nedry: I'm totally unappreciated in my time. You're gonna run this whole park in this room with minimal staff for up to three days. You think that kind of automation is easy? Or cheap? You know anybody who can network eight connection machines and debug two million lines of code for when I've been for this job? Because if you can, I'd love to see you try! Hammond: I'm sorry about your financial problems, Dennis. I really am, but they are your problems. Nedry: Oh, you're right, John. You're absolutely right. You know, everything's my problem. Hammond: I will not be drawn into another financial debate with you, Dennis. I really will not! Nedry: There's hardly been any debate at all! Hammond: I don't blame people for their mistakes, but I do ask that they pay for them. Nedry: [sarcastically] Thanks, Dad. |

Oh, uh, I, uh, finished debugging the phones, uh, I, you know I was just going to debug, so I did. I, I, uh, told you I'm sorry I didn't tell you I debugged the phones, and, uh, I thought maybe, uh… I should tell you that the, uh, system is gonna be, uh, compiling for, uh, 18 to 20 minutes, so some of the minor systems, they might go on or off for a while, but it's not something to worry about; it's just a simple thing. | „ |

What do you want? Do you want a little food? Look at me. I just fell down a hill, I'm soaking wet, I don't have any food. I have nothing on me. I have nothing on me! Go on. | „ |
