Derek Clough is a minor antagonist in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.

He is the estranged father of Porsche McQueen, who was conceived after Derek raped his daughter, Reenie.

He was portrayed by the late Bruce Montague.

Personality

Derek is introduced in a feeble and weak state. He is presented mostly as a coward with some "remorse" for his abuse to his family. Ultimately, it is clear this remorse is an attempt at atoning for his sins in the knowledge he is about to die.

Biography

Background

Derek met Marlena "Nana" McQueen. The pair had a sexual relationship which resulted in the birth of Reenie McQueen. When Reenie was young, Derek raped Reenie and impregnated her. Reenie carried to term and gave birth to Porsche. It is unknown if Derek abandoned his family before Porsche left, but it is highly suspected he left out of shame and fear of being held accountable for his crimes. At some point, Derek contracted COPD which becomes terminal.

Hollyoaks

Derek writes to Marlena in September 2015, asking to meet and revealing his terminal illness. Marlena does, but looks on at him with pure disgust and resentment for his abuse. Marlena and Reenie take pity on Derek at one point, but when Derek suddenly takes a turn for the worst and begins to show signs of dying, they refuse to help him and let him die in pain. The pair hold hands as Derek struggles, and cry. They swear never to tell anyone what they did and wish him good riddance.

Porsche becomes the sole heir to Derek's wealth and possessions, which results in Reenie eventually coming clean about her conception and the abuse Reenie endured.
