He was portrayed by Bokeem Woodbine, who also portrayed Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mike Milligan in Fargo, Harry in the Total Recall remake, and Gordon "G-Man" Thomas in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Background[]
An old school gangster in the drug trade, Keyes made quite the name for himself in Chicago's criminal underworld. He eventually rose to become an infamous drug kingpin with a massive organization. He led his organization through his ruthless methods and his men didn't dare to defy him. Keyes has always been elusive to the CPD's efforts, with fellow criminal Eddie Little remarking that he isn't someone who can be caught so easily.
He soon recruited his little brother, Bones into his organization while having him serve as one of his lieutenants.
Life Is Fluid[]
Keyes met his brother Bones at the airport with undercover Detective Jay Halstead. Keyes questioned his brother on his whereabouts and the liar tried to lie but Keyes brought in his brother's bruised and bloodied bodyguard who tells a different story. Upon realizing his little brother, Bones, was setting him up, he killed him with a shot to the head and kidnapped Detective Halstead.
His men tortured Halstead but the latter endured and only gave his name and rank. Keyes later had the torture recorded and had it sent to the 21st District through a kid who also had a phone in a box. He would call the phone, where he spoke with Sergeant Voight and told him that he should be proud because his detective is tough on not talking, before Voight questioned what he wanted. Keyes demanded that a female officer bring him all the Intelligence unit CI files in exchange for Halstead's life.
Erin Lindsay agreed to return to the CPD and deliver the false files so she could save Halstead. Derek's men show up and ask for the files but Lindsay refuses until she sees Jay, who isn't with them. Then one of them pulls a gun on her and tell her to get in and she does. When Lindsay arrived at his house, Keyes greeted her, and she tells him to hold up his end of the bargain. Keyes had his men bring in the bloodied and bruised but still living Halstead. However, before they can leave Derek's right-hand man, Kris takes a look at the files. When Kris told Derek it was all fake, He and Kris were going to kill Erin and Jay.
However, Erin and Halstead start fighting with Derek and Kris. Erin kills Kris by stabbing him and then she shoots Derek in the shoulder. He is then killed by Erin after reaching for a gun, refusing to go down alive.
