Biography[]
Past[]
Keyes was one of the most powerful drug kingpins in Chicago, specializing in dealing drugs and murder. He is described as an old school gangster who led his subordinates through the most ruthless method as possible and they dared not to disobey, giving Keyes a dangerous reputation. He has been very elusive of the CPD's efforts to detain him, with fellow criminal Eddie Little remarking that he is type of man that tries not to be found. At one point, he enlisted his younger brother Benji "Bones" into his organization, and he became one of his street captains.
"Life is Fluid"[]
Keyes met his brother Bones at the airport with undercover Detective Jay Halstead. Keyes questioned his brother on his whereabouts and the liar tried to lie but Keyes brought in his brother's bruised and bloodied bodyguard who tells a different story. Keyes is then forced to kill him for disloyalty and have his men detain Halstead, whose cover is blown. Intelligence tried to swoop in, but Keyes and his gang had already left the scene.
That night, he had his men subject Halstead to various torture methods for intel, but the latter was able to endure it, only giving his name and rank. Getting nowhere, he had the torture recorded on a burner phone and had it to the 21st police district through a kid who delivered it in a box. Keyes then called the phone and spoke to Sgt. Hank Voight, telling him that he should be proud because Halstead is tough and won't talk. Voight asked him what he wanted, and he responded that he wanted all of Intelligence C.I Files in exchange for Halstead's life, stating a lone female cop makes the drop at a certain time. Telling the Sergeant his terms better be honored, before hanging up. Intelligence was left in a quarry, as Halstead's and the lives of various informants were in jeopardy regardless of their choice. They then decided to create fake files, which in the eyes of a crook would look authentic.
Det. Erin Lindsay volunteered for the task, and she arrived at the spot, where she was disarmed and got in Keyes' truck after demanding she see Halstead. When Lindsay arrived, Keyes greeted her, and she asserted that she has to see Halstead alive before giving up anything. Keyes had his men bring in the bloodied and bruised but still living Halstead.
When Lindsay arrived at his house, Keyes greeted her, and she tells him to hold up his end or the bargain. Keyes had his men bring in the bloodied and bruised but still living Halstead. However, before they can leave Derek's right-hand man, Kris takes a look at the files. When Kris told Derek it was all fake, He and Kris were going to kill Erin and Jay.
However, Erin and Halstead start fighting with Derek and Kris. Erin kills Kris by stabbing him and then she shoots Derek in the shoulder. He is then killed by Erin after reaching for a gun, refusing to go down alive.
With his death, his gang was arrested, and his organization was dismantled.
