Derek Sanford is the main antagonist of the 1982 thriller film The Seduction. Sanford is a photographer and the obsessive stalker of news anchor Jamie Douglas.

He's portrayed by Andrew Stevens.

Biography

Sanford lived near Jamie and wanted Jamie to himself, so he called her and sent her flowers constantly, as well as once sent her a box of candies. She originally welcomed his attention from seeing him as an "admirer" and trying to be polite, but he breaks into her home and takes photos of her while scaring her, resulting in Jamie's boyfriend Brandon beating him and chasing him off. As Sanford was also stalking Robin, a fashion model in Jamie's neighborhood, he tried to get Robin to convince Jamie to be with him, but she realized he was the caller and sent him away as well. Julie, one of Sanford's colleagues, is rebuffed by him when she wants to date him. Jamie more seriously tells Sanford to stay away from her and that she wants nothing to do with him, but she catches him masturbating while watch her on the bathroom, causing Brandon to chase him out again. Sanford then rigs the news station' teleprompter to send a threat to Jamie, who reveals Sanford stalking her to a live audience and pleads for help. Sanford stabs Brandon to death in front of Jamie, and she hides in the house to call the police. He manipulates Sanford to come back, but she fails to kill him with a shotgun. Sanford, finally furious, returns again, armed with a knife, to rape Jamie. When she shoves Sanford off and undresses to try and provoke Sanford, his impotence is revealed, resulting in Jamie calling him out on it and trying to get him to leave. When Sanford tries to kill her, Julie arrives and shoots him dead.
