He was voiced by Myron Natwick.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Dermot Quinn was born in 1938 in Galway, Ireland to unnamed parents, and had five unnamed brothers and sisters. Due to his family being poor, the Quinn family would leave Ireland to Chicago when Dermot was young, with one of his sisters dying during the journey. At some point in his youth or into adulthood, Quinn turned to crime and worked as a thug for for the Chicago South Club, where he earned the nickname "Lucky" after becoming the sole survivor of a shootout against Al Capone's Chicago Outfit in Hanson Park. Rising through the ranks of the criminal underworld, Dermot eventually became the leader of the Club, spreading the organization's power across the city. At some point around this time, Quinn had a son Niall Quinn, whom is implied to have followed in his father's footsteps in becoming a criminal.
By the 2010s, Quinn was contacted by the Blume Corporation to help finance the CtOs, a digital system created to hold information from technology. Seeing the opportunity to gain more power from the system, Quinn agreed to finance their project in exchange for network access. Having the advantage, the Chicago South Club gained more control over Chicago, but Quinn desired more and plotted to gain control over Mayor Donavon Rushmore. Due to his connections to Blume, Dermot was able to influence to the company to have the mayor file a divorce and began a relationship with their former employee, Rose Washington. Quinn was then able to blackmail Rushmore when he murdered her on camera, thus giving him more power over the city.
Around this time, Quinn met with Delford "Iraq" Wade, a former military soldier turned leader of the Black Viceroys, and had his gang work with the club. Despite this, Iraq despised Quinn since he the latter was truly in control, and started to create his own army to go against the mob boss. Dermot also became associated with Joseph DeMarco, whom he he placed as the handler of the human sex trafficking ring. While running the criminal underworld in Chicago, Quinn's profession wasn't known by the public, as they saw him as a wealthy philanthropist.
The Merlaut Incident[]
In the fall of 2012, hackers Aiden Pearce and Damien Brenks planned on hacking the Merlaut Hotel to siphon money from bank accounts, but were traced by Iraq. Believing that the hackers were trying to obtain the video of Rose's death, Quinn decided to stop them. Having them identified by the hacker Clara Lille, Lucky ordered Wade to send the hitman Maurice Vega to kill Pearce, and sent another one to frighten Brenks. Vega would fail to eliminate Aiden, killing the hacker's niece Lena by causing their vehicle to crash. Lucky's actions would have a major consequence, with Pearce vowing to get revenge on who was responsible, and Damien becoming hellbent on learning what was so special about the distorted video he saw.
Watch Dogs[]
A year later, Quinn continues his reign over Chicago, having blackmail against the public due to his access to CtOS and having the club and the viceroys committing crimes. When learning that his client Neil Corrado botched a heist by causing the death of his partner, Quinn asked the fixer Jordi Chin to bring him to an alleyway. Jordi would instead send Pearce to pick up Neil and bring him to Quinn, whom proceeded to deal with Corrado by killing him and obtaining the laptop. Later on, Quinn has DeMarco set up a sex slave auction, and calls Iraq for supposedly stealing the guest list.
At the sex auction, Dermot would encounter Aiden, who posed himself as Nicholas Crispin to access Iraq's dog tags and rescue Poppy. Noticing that "Crispin" doesn't have an accent, Lucky is able to recognize Aiden, but allows him to leave before ordering the guards at the auction to kill him. Pearce escapes and calls the authorities, allowing the police to raid the auction and causing the trafficking ring to go into disarray. Lucky would later appear during at a Merlaut benefit, where he refuses to end his blackmail against Rushmore. He is then confronted by Pearce, who has discovered that he had the hit placed on him that caused the death of his niece. Dermot orders his men to kill Aiden as he hides in his safe room, taunting the hacker until Pearce hacks into Quinn's peacemaker.
Seeing that Pearce wanted to know why, Quinn shows the hacker the video of Rushmore killing Rose, revealing that he thought Aiden and Damien were attempting to obtain the video. Despite his initial taunts, Dermot attempts to bargain with Pearce, who refuses and kills Quinn by hacking into his peacemaker again. Though able to get his vengeance, Aiden learns that Quinn placed a hit on Clara, whom is killed at Lena's grave. Following the incident, Quinn was exposed for his connections the criminal underworld, thus hurting his organization. The video of Rushmore killing Washington is also exposed, resulting the mayor being disgraced, leading to him either committing suicide or being killed by the club.
Watch Dogs: Bad Blood[]
Quinn is mentioned in Bad Blood, as his son Nial attempts to fill his father's role as the head of the club.
Personality and Traits[]
Quinn is the most powerful and ruthless crime boss in Chicago. He is shown to be the head of a large crime syndicate which includes sex slavery, human trafficking, drugs and numerous technology based crimes, possibly including identity theft and fraud. He covers all of these crimes by appearing to be a generous and altruistic philanthropist.
He also invests in and owns various businesses, such as The Merlaut Hotel and his own Marina. A conniving individual, he is not against blackmailing other people and cutting deals with organizations to further increase his standing and influence over the city like he did with Mayor Rushmore and Blume and lacks a moral compass as shown by his partaking in human trafficking and his indifference when being confronted by Aiden on his implications towards Lena's death.
He also seems to have some affinity towards the old-school gangster ways of the past, made evident in his gang meet ups and briefcase swapping. It is possible that Iraq is one of his proteges, but the former sees that Wade is stepping his bounds.
Quotes[]
“ | It is indeed what matters most. This is how the world turns. Not much room for f-ck-ups. Calm down, it's all right. Calm? Get a chance to talk to your momma? Call your friends? Your girl? That's good. Very good. | „ |
~ Lucky Quinn to Corrado. |
“ | Life has taught me a great many things to get me where I am. And luck had nothing to do with any of it. | „ |
~ Lucky to Aiden, whom is guised as Nicholas Crispin. |
“ | Ohh... Is this what all the fuss is about? You must forgive me. So many people come to me with their little problems. It's hard to keep track sometimes. | „ |
~ Quinn to Aiden when the latter told him about the death of his niece. |
“ | Well, here we are... You're a young man, Mr. Pearce. Just walk away. Live your life. I can assure you this room is impenetrable. So many people trying to catch you, including myself. You've been more elusive than we anticipated. | „ |
~ Quinn being confronted by Aiden. |
“ | Do you expect me to beg? Lucky Quinn... On his knees. You don't even know why we attacked you. That was a mistake. We thought you wanted this... (shows the video of Rose Washington being murdered) You were just sloppy. If you'd walked away, I would have forgotten you. What a lovely woman, Rose Washington. If it wasn't for her death, where would I be? Most women die without purpose. But she had enough sense to die in front of the camera. And our mayor... never tidy with his secrets. And stupid enough to fall in love. | „ |
~ Quinn shows Aiden the truth. |
“ | Do you think you've won? You see when I die, they'll build a statue. And you? The city didn't stop for your grieving family. Because you don't matter. | „ |
~ Quinn taunting Aiden for the last time. |
“ | I can make any deal you want. Anything. Just say it. | „ |
~ Quinn's last words before his death. |
