Detective Cunningham is the overarching antagonist of the crime thriller Splinter. A detective in the Los Angeles Police Department, he has been investigating a string of grizzly murders taking place in the notorious gang territory Paradise Gardens neighborhood and their rivals Greenville. Over time, his new partner, detective Gramm, begins finding something odd with all the carnage. As all out warfare threatens to erupt between the two gangs and the body count and violence keeps escalating, Gramm uncovers the truth; The entire conflict was orchestrated by Cunningham in an effort to try and get the two gangs to wipe each other out.
He was played by the late Tom Sizemore who also played Chance Wilder in Harley Davidson and Marlboro Man, Max Peltier in Strange Days, DeWitt Albright in Devil In Blue Dress, Paulie Pintero in Enemy Of The State, Sonny Forelli in Grand Theft Auto:Vice City, Kurt Rossi in Crime Scene Investigation:Miami and Lewis Hodda in Law & Order:Special Victims Unit.

Cunningham is a reckless sociopath with a penchant for excessive violence and uncontrollable behavior. He utterly detests criminals and doesn't even see them as human beings, going so far as to create and escalate a vicious gang war in an attempt to get both factions to destroy each other, not caring to the mass death and destruction it leaves in its wake. He is a heavy drinker and this, coupled with his attitude, regularly causes problems in the force, though he is skilled at behaving normally even when under the influence, displaying he's likely a high functioning alcoholic when needed. He is both racist and sexist, and has no qualms killing people in cold blood, and is skilled at manipulating others into doing the dirty work for him. He is also ultimately a coward, as when cornered by the Paradise Gardens 13 members, he tried to talk his way out of his incoming death to no avail.
