Detour is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise, especially Generation One. He was based on a figure from the 1989 toyline.

Marvel Comics[]

Detour first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "A Small War" as one of the first Decepticon Micromasters created by Thunderwing. He was completed after Thunderwing captured the Autobot Battle Patrol in order to reverse-engineer Micromaster technology.

Detour made his first appearance in the Marvel US title in Issue #56, along with the rest of the Sports Car Patrol. It was eventually revealed they were working for Megatron, who had established a small power base on Cybertron. He despatched the Sports Car Patrol through a transdimensional portal to the Ark, where they approached Ratchet pretending to be Autobots and convinced him to accompany them back to Cybertron. While Blackjack remained behind to plant a bomb to destroy the Ark, Detour, Hyperdrive and Road Hugger took Ratchet to Megatron, who needed his assistance to rebuild Starscream as a Pretender and brainwash him into serving him. Detour took something of an aggressive stance with his fellow Decepticons, squaring up to Road Hugger when he questioned orders and later arguing with Dreadwind.

Detour made his last appearance at the climax of the storyline in Issue #59. With Ratchet having managed to turn the tables and revive Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee as Pretenders, Megatron sent Detour and the rest of his troops to battle the three Autobots after he managed to eject them from his base. The battle ironically took the combatants away from the base, allowing them to witness its destruction when the bomb left on the Ark was transported back there, apparently killing both Megatron and Ratchet.
