~ Deveriux |
Deveriux is one of the secondary antagonists of the 2022 animated film Las Leyendas: El Origen, the sixth installment of Las Leyendas film series and the prequel to the 2007 film La Leyenda de la Nahuala.
He is one of the Moira's ghost minions, along with Pascual and Chuletl.
He was voiced by German Fabregat.
Description[]
Personality[]
He is someone with an evil and cunning character like Moira, Pascual and Chuletl. However, he has the same disadvantage as everyone else, being very trusting. That same thing would lead him to his end.
Appearance[]
He is a small but thin ghost man, with a pale purple skin tone. He has a prominent and stylish wig, but it has a large cannonball mark in the center, revealing his baldness. His eyebrows and mustache have an elegant detail, which suits him more as a French nobleman. His eyes are a dark reddish shade.
As for his outfit, he wears a military suit that is mostly black with gold stripes, and a white turtleneck shirt goes under it, also wearing a reddish ribbon and a luxurious necklace with an embedded precious stone (it could be a ruby). His belt is a darker black, and has a gold buckle. On it, a shining red chain stands out, which is broken into 2 parts. Finally, the lower part is also covered in a black and tattered fabric.
History[]
Background[]
Before the events of the film, Deveriux may have been (based on his attire) a French military man from the early 18th century (being the youngest of Moira's 3 henchmen). Given the large mark on his wig, he may have been killed by a cannonball, and his death was probably sudden. Given the red ribbon he has, he may have been of high rank within his battalion (such as captain, lieutenant or general).
Upon arriving in the World of the Dead, he would meet Moira at an undetermined time, whom he dedicated himself to serving in whatever she desired (such as, in this case, finding a way to access the World of the Living), and he would receive some mystical chains (as a sign of servitude), similar to those of his colleagues.
Las Leyendas: El Origen[]
He appears second in the battle against the Codex Keeper. He manages to give a somewhat longer battle than Chuletl, although he is defeated by her in the same way. Now that Moira has what she was looking for, he laughs with her companions.
He arrives at the Eternal Mirror arguing with his companions about Moira opening a portal right now, although he stops when Pascual almost loses his voice. When the Mirror is activated, he is seen to be very excited, but when a "monster" appears there, he looks worried. When it turns out to be Leo and eats the Mirror's power, he tries to catch him along with Pascual and Chuletl, but a wave from the baby pushes them several meters away. When Aniceto comes to the rescue, he is the first to attack him with his swords, although the latter dodges it, kicking him.
As the portal loses its power, it warns that it is going to explode. Without Moira being able to fix it, he is hit by the energy of the place, leaving him visibly injured. She asks Chuletl about his whereabouts, but he refuses. When she orders them to look for Chimo, he mentions that he still owes them. After having sent the Owl Alebrije, she follows her companions towards where the young ghost is.
Back in his lair, he mentions what Moira wants, in exchange for allowing him access to the world of the living. After Pascual mentions that they were able to open the portal with the Codex, he mentions the appearance of the child, which is what ruined the plan. In addition, Moira was badly injured, and that Leo had swallowed the power of the Eternal Mirror. Finally, he tells him that there is no time to lose, and that he should gain everyone's trust while they take care of following his movements.
In the Valley of a Thousand Looks, he appears with Chuletl to demand the baby. At first, no one understood his French expressions, and the jaguar warrior helped him translate. He draws his sword to announce the attack, and Chimo arrives at that moment. Seeing how he was hitting Chuletl, he tells him that it was a fake fight, but Chimo strikes him with his spear, causing him to spin around. He insists that they must be acting, but he continues to receive Chimo's force. Unable to avoid it, he announces retreat.
Just as Pascual mentions the success of the plan, Chuletl replies that it will be within his point of view, because the ghost beat them up, and Chuletl agrees with him. While they are watching the protagonists advance from among the hives of fireflies, one of these lands on his wig, and Chuletl slaps him, so they begin to fight. Having been caught, the insect is frightened by the fury of the swarm, screaming in horror, and then tries to push them away with his sword, but receives another blow from the jaguar warrior, leaving him crushed to the ground. Although, he then flees with the rest when Pascual announces another retreat.
In the Caves of Silence, he appears swollen from his bites, answering Chuletl that they must cross the place, even if there is no safe path left.
When the Owl Alebrije transmits for the second time to the protagonists, he is looking at the transmission rock with Chuletl with noticeable anger, mentioning the word "filthy traitor." If he said it, it was because they were both watching a cartoon, and Pascual snatches the object from them.
As they follow them, Deveriux asks the corsair if they are arriving yet, receiving a resounding no. When he realizes the presence of the Octopus Alebrije, he flees rowing with the others, begging them to go faster.
At the double crossing, she appears greeting Chimo in French. Reading about the Desert of the Tares, he advises the spirit that it must make Finado, Moribunda, Eva and Aniceto fight each other, if it wants to obtain the child without any problem. Having heard Moribunda's song, he hides.
When Chimo gives up on his mission, he mentions that they have been betrayed.
While Leo is cuddling, he appears before Chimo, after having injured Aniceto. Seeing himself cornered with the rest, he gives him a capsule so that he can put the creature there.
He is in charge of pointing his sword at him, so that he does not try to disobey. When the Owl Alebrije flees with the boy, he tells the young man that he has impressed them now, and that he thought he had betrayed them. Seeing that his friends question what he meant, he reveals to them that he was one of their own. After receiving rejection from both sides, Deveriux announces the grand finale, and using his sword, creates powerful waves that resonate in the Cavern.
He says goodbye, saying that they are leaving. When the Cave Monster appears furious, he believes that he has already won, and continues saying goodbye with mockery as he climbs the stairs. However, he receives a stone from Finado, which makes him fall to the ground. Between Chimo's effort to contain the beast and Chuletl's action in cutting the stairs, he calls both him and Pascual "cowards", and snatches Chimo's sword, saying that he is the only one who can control this threat. He manages to hurt the Monster's hand, Right there, he is caught by the gigantic creature, who devours him while screaming.
