Devil is the main antagonist in the Netflix animated series A Tale Dark and Grimm. He lives in Hell, where he's a boss, with his grandmother. Devil is responsible for many other characters' troubles, including the curse that kills everyone who falls in love with the golden princess (Hansel and Gretel's mother).
He was voiced by Adam Lambert, who also voiced Emperor Maximus in Playmobil: The Movie.
History[]
Before the series[]
About his past it is only known that he is one who put on The Golden Princess (later The Queen) a curse that kills everybody else who falls in love with her, and that in unknown time, he made a deal with one young man who made a dark magic, according to which the last one could tear The Devil's golden hairs to create a magical thread (what started bother the Devil).
In series[]
Episode 1[]
The Devil appears towards the end of the episode in a flame of fire, immediately meeting Johannes, the royal servant who had already been to hell and managed to steal away some of his hairs. In his manner, the Devil allegedly greeted the old man affably, but Johannes ignored him, knowing his true nature.
The Devil's attention was attracted by a turnip sack lying on the ground, and picking it up and sniffing it, he realized that there had recently been two unusual children in this place. Johannes snatched the sack out of his hands in disgust. But the Devil was not interested in Hansel and Gretel at that moment, because he came for the soul of a baker lady who ate children throughout her life. He teleported to the place where Mrs Baker, pierced with a candy cane, transformed into a ghost, and mocking teleported her to hell, admiring the way she perished.
Episode 4[]
He also appears to the end of the episode in tavern.
The Lord Meister, who had a penchant for a gambling, played the dice with other visitors, and luck was on his side, until The Devil sat at him. Lord bet on all of his money, but The Devil, of coarse, using a magic, won. When he put money in a sack and was going to leave, Meister asked to give him a chance. The Devil saw the great chance for himself and, agreed to play again for thing that was near the fireplace in Lord's library (knowing that there his adopted son, Hansel). Lord, thinnning that he mean a tabouret, bet with Devil, and the last one won again. The Devil decided to Meister to home to take away his price.
Episode 5[]
The Devil and Lord Meister, not worried of loosing the bet, came to his home. To Meister's terror, the price for the Devil turned out to be Hansel reading the book near the fireplace that time. Although Devil was sick because of Hansel's smell of pureness and goodness, he was glad that boy belonged to him since. He promised Hansel an unbearable pain in Hell, but couldnot take him that moment, because somewhere there died a wolf who pretended to be grandmother, what made The Devil laugh (he didn't even suspect that soon he'll become fool who'd fall for trick like this), but he threatens Hansel that if boy doesn't come to him through three days, Devil would revenge at him and his sister, and by the moment disappears.
Later, he is metioned only by two demons and called as their boss (most of all, by Hansel). There's also said that he built his house on his own.
Episode 6
Sitting on the human-skin sofa, Hansel hears the horrifying screams from behind the door. When he opened it, he saw resting on a folding chair Devil enjoying his grandmother's "lullaby". As soon as this, he smells human, but Grandmother thinks that it was a smell of human stew she cooked in a pot.
Appearance[]
As as he is the demon, he has horns growing from the forehead, long tails and the lower part of his legs are goat-like. His skin is green. His hair is light brown with golden ones.
One of his features is a big hooked nose, he's got amber eyes (each one with long eyelashes), his lips are dark-purple and his eyelids are painted in lilac.
Outfits[]
He wears a blue coat with pauldrons, a fan collar, and trousers long to the knees. On the chest, it's decorated with a copper chain, fastened with clasps styled as sad emoticon and something looking like a rose (they also fasten the short crimson red cloak). The most important thing in his outfit is his glasses.
Personality[]
Despite he is evil, Devil behaves rather flamboyantly and affably. Devil obviously takes pleasure in ruining people's lives, and he doesn't limit only to the torture of sinners or dirty tricks on earth - as shown in the series, he makes furniture out of people and even eats them.
He is very insidious and can make a deal that always ends for the debtor in a curse or going to hell (shown in EP 7 in the situation with William and Jacob).
It seems like the only one he loves is his grandmother, but he can get mad even at her sometimes (said to Hansel disguised as her that he would use her intestines as a jump rope).
His very strange manner is using more extended versions of words, for example, "exhaustrating" instead of "exhausting".

Trivia[]
- The golden thread with which the heads of Hansel and Gretel were sewn was made from his golden hairs. In EP 6, he tells his grandmother about a deal with The Handsome Young Man who has a collection of soul-doves (this warlock also used the golden thread for fixing the broken toys).
- In the original book by Adam Gidwitz, the Devil looks different: he has reddish skin, and his hair was fully golden.
- In EP 5, he goes to take in Hell a wolf, who pretended the Red Riding Hood's grandmother.
