The Devil Kingdom, also known as the Dark Army, are the main antagonists of the Devil May Cry franchise.

They are an army of monstrous creatures typically under the command of Mundus, who seeks to take over Earth and destroy humanity. While Mundus was the primary ruler of the Devil Kingdom, other villains such as Argosax and Urizen have claimed the throne in his absence.

History[]

Past[]

The Devil Kingdom as it is known today was formed by Mundus, the Prince of Darkness, who slew the previous ruler of the Demon World and took the realm for himself. Over time, a rival for the throne known as Argosax emerged, resulting in a civil war between the demons and dividing the Demon World between the two rulers.

Eventually, Mundus' right-hand knight, Sparda, betrayed his master after learning of Mundus' plans to invade Earth and wipe out humanity. Sparda used his powers to defeat Mundus and seal him away, before then sealing off the largest portal between Earth and the Demon World within the Temen-ni-gru tower.

In the centuries that followed, Argosax took control of the Devil Kingdom. However, Mundus eventually broke free from Sparda's seal and took back his throne, before plotting to invade Earth once more.
