Deviot is the secondary antagonist of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy and the overarching antagonist of the Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue episode "Trakeena's Revenge". He was a robotic and treacherous extraterrestrial mercenary loyal only to himself, that secretly plotted against both the alien tyrant Scorpius and his daughter Trakeena. He was the third and final general of Scorpius (and later Trakeena), but betrayed them for his own ends and secretly manipulated them and desired to kill them and take over their insect Empire and later the entire universe.
He was voiced by the late Bob Papenbrook who also voiced Daemon and ShogunGekomon in Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01, Rito Revolto in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers Zeo, Silo in Zeo, and Shadowborg in Big Bad Beetleborgs.
Biography[]
Past[]
Little is known about Deviot and nothing about his early life was mentioned. An unknown amount of time ago, he found the bodies of the Shark, Rhino and Phoenix Galactabeasts after they were disabled in battle. Seeing an opportunity, he rebuilt them into Zords (the Stratoforce, the Centaurus Megazords and the Zenith Carrierzord) and brainwashed them to become completely loyal to him.
Lost Galaxy[]
Learning of Scorpius' cocoon that Trakeena refused, Deviot approaches Scorpius with an offer. If Scorpius allows him to use the cocoon instead of Trakeena, he will use his Galactabeasts to destroy the Galaxy Rangers for him. After absorbing the Lights of Orion Power-up Mode Finisher, Deviot succeeds in activating them and they easily take out the Galaxy Megazord and Defender Torozord since they refuse to fight fellow Galactabeasts.
However, the Zords later break free of his control and join the Rangers although this is only the beginning of Deviot's treachery as he continues to serve Scorpius. Due to losing the Zords, Scorpius refuses to let him use the cocoon so Deviot manages to trick Scorpius into thinking that the Power Rangers have Trakeena as their captive. The insect overlord engages the rangers but is struck a fatal blow in the process and tells Deviot to enter the cocoon as his successor. However, Trakeena returns and Scorpius tells the treacherous cyborg to serve her instead.
Now serving Trakeena and with the cocoon locked up in storage (as she felt she doesn't need it), Deviot secretly arranges for assassination attempts on her while feigning loyalty but the attempts fail. Deviot constantly conflicts with Villamax due to the fact they have almost opposite personalities. At one point, he manages to get his hands on the data cards that the Psycho Rangers are imprisoned in and release them. However, the Psychos are destroyed by the Galaxy Rangers and the Space Rangers although Deviot manages to retrieve Psycho Pink and bring her to Trakeena but she refuses to work for the insect princess. When Loyax is called upon by Villamax only to later redeem himself, Deviot uses a control device to force him to fight. The Galaxy Megazord is able to free Loyax from Deviot's control but, before Loyax can destroy Deviot, the injuries he took battling the Rangers prove too much for him and he perishes, allowing Deviot to flee.
Eventually, after other constant failures to defeat the rangers, Deviot abandons Trakeena and boards Terra Venture to steal the legendary Galaxy Book. Deviot attacks Kai when he is retrieving the Galaxy Book and fights him. The villain overpowers the Blue Ranger but the Guardian of the Galaxy Book appears, saves Kai and fights Deviot only to die in the process when Terra Venture's atmosphere weakens him. Deviot then recites the Keonta Spell, pulling Terra Venture into the Lost Galaxy and the spell mutats Deviot into a monster who is too strong for the Rangers, deflecting even their Lights of Orion's Power-Up Mode attack. With the help of crystals given to Kai by the Guardian, the Rangers upgrad their Quasar Launchers and blast Deviot, but he grows. Deviot is too much for the Galaxy Megazord but the Stratoforce Megazord and the Centaurus Megazord join the fight.
After the Stratoforce and Centaurus Megazords weaken him with an energy tornado attack, Kai hits him with a strike from the Galaxy Megazord Saber which apparently kills him. Despite this, Deviot is defeated and later regains his normal form after absorbing energy from a monster in the service of the pirate Captain Mutiny who he then joins forces with. Deviot attempts to aid Captain Mutiny by strengthening Grunchor but is interrupted by the Rangers and defeated by Maya. Before she can destroy him, Leo stops her as they need Deviot to find out how to destroy Grunchor. Deviot reluctantly tells them Grunchor's weakness is fire before fleeing. Deviot later captures Leo and Damon when they return to Mutiny's planet to spy on him but, on Barbarax's suggestion, waits until Mutiny returns at sunset to execute them. However, the rest of the Rangers arrive and Deviot and Mutiny flee.
Upon escaping the Lost Galaxy with Captain Mutiny and his crew, Captain Mutiny's Castle is destroyed by Trakeena's Scorpion Stinger killing everybody on board except for Deviot who escapes. However, when he tries to rejoin Trakeena, she has realised his treachery and orders Villamax to kill him. Deviot flees tries to enter the cocoon but Trakeena attacks him and a mortally wounded Deviot drags her into the cocoon with him, hoping he and Trakeena will merge and he’ll get her power. However, this destroys Deviot as his body is absorbed by Trakeena instead although this gives her Deviot’s evil and ruthless personality as well as his echoed voice and blasters. Anything that was left of Deviot is destroyed when the Lights of Orion powered Omega Megazord destroys Trakeena a year later.
Personality[]
Deviot, like Darkonda, was treacherous and deceptive out for his own gain, and a psychopath, but Darkonda cared for no one else, while Deviot was willing to share power with Captain Mutiny. Another difference from Darkonda is that Deviot is more willing to cover his tracks and mask his treacherous agenda to prevent suspicion from his superiors, whereas Darkonda was not afraid to announce his treachery in front of his peers.
Unlike Scorpius and Villamax, who were both somewhat sympathetic and honorable, Deviot had no such sense of honor nor did he care about loyalty. He was a manipulative, treacherous, and remorseless mastermind who was only out for himself, power and money. He was fully aware of good and evil and truly didn't care about anyone else. Though he claimed total loyalty to Scorpius, he had no such loyalty to anyone (except for Captain Mutiny), and would gladly back-stab, deceive, blackmail, or even kill to get his way. He was also extremely ruthless, greedy, and self-serving, greatly enjoying deceiving others into doing his bidding. What is most disgusting about him is that he is truly a coward at heart: one of the reasons that he joined Scorpius is that he hopes that he will protect him, despite arranging for his death and using him for his own ends. A notable example of this is when he panics and frantically begs Trakeena and Villamax not to kill him, even after he was just exposed of his treachery.
To save himself, he forced himself and Trakeena into the cocoon, where she killed him, but his powers and personality were absorbed into her. This only extends his depravity, however, as he is willing to use anyone he sees fit as pawns for his own twisted games, and is glad to allow his pawns to be destroyed by the Power Rangers, with the exception being himself, of course. Despite his heinous actions, it's implied he was truly saddened to see the Psycho Rangers defeated as he saw them as his friends, despite trying to force them to obey Trakeena through electrical abuse.
Powers and Abilities[]
Deviot was one of the most powerful enemies the Galaxy Rangers has ever faced. He was the second most powerful adversary of the Rangers during the season (surpassed only by Trakeena herself). Deviot surpassed in power Scorpius, Villamax, Treacheron, Mutiny, Furio and all other villains and monsters.
Normal Form[]
- Strength: Deviot was able to take all five Galaxy Rangers, and the Magna Defender at once.
- Durability: When he first confronted the Rangers, deviot was hit by the Magna Defender's finishing strike and slammed through by the Power-Up Mode attack but he was unfazed.
- Energy Redirection: Deviot was able to send the energy up his wrist and into the controller for his evil Galactabeasts.
- Hand-to-Hand Combat: Deviot was a highly skilled fighter, being able to block almost any attacks thrown at him.
- Shapeshifting: In the episode "Protect the Quasar Saber", Deviot was able to disguise himself as a merchant.
- Voice Mimicry: While disguised as the merchant, Deviot could change his voice to imitate him.
- Laser Vision: Deviot could fire red energy lasers from his eyes.
- Teleportation: Deviot could teleport to any location at will.
- Monster Summoning: Deviot was able to summon Hardtochoke by calling his name.
- Stingwingers Summoning: Deviot could summon Stingwingers to fight for him.
Arsenal[]
- Laser Gauntlets: Deviot had silver gauntlets equipped with blasters on either wrist that could fire powerful red lasers. These caused massive explosions and killed Kubak with two hits.
Keonta Spell Form[]
- Reflection: Deviot was able to easily reflect the Rangers' Power-Up Mode attack.
- Energy Absorption: Deviot could absorb any villain or monster's energy to revert to his normal form.
- Self Growth: Deviot could make himself grow to giant size at will.
- Tentacles: During his Megazord fight, Deviot was able to sprout tentacles from his hand to ensnare his opponents.
- Electrocution: Deviot could charge up his tentacles with light orange electricity to shock his opponents.
- Durability: In this new form, Deviot could withstand almost every attack thrown at him. The Galaxy Quasar Launchers only made him cringe and he survived the Galaxy Megazord's Saber Slash and was only shrunk down.
Arsenal[]
- Claws: Deviot had sharp claws in his Keonta Spell form that he could use to slash his enemies.
- Blaster Gauntlet: Deviot retained one of his blaster gauntlets in battle which was much stronger in this form. They could fire red-orange energy lasers with turquoise lightning around it from his blaster gauntlet. It is possibly an upgraded form of the energy lasers from his previous form, but is far stronger.
Trivia[]
- His name was derived from the word "devious."
- Deviot would go on to be reused in at least two Power Rangers seasons after Lost Galaxy:
- Kired of the Mut-Orgs from Power Rangers: Wild Force has the head, body, and left hand of the Keonta Spell-enhanced Deviot costume with horns added onto the costume while combined with the repainted right arm of Beetleborgs Metallix's Repgillian, the wings of unused GoGo-V monster Zairen (the inspiration for Mermatron in the Lightspeed Rescue video game who also briefly appears in an advanced form in "Sorcerer of the Sands"), and the boots of Radster.
- "Parsnippity" an alien criminal seen in Power Rangers: SPD, has a head that looks exactly the same as Deviot's which was combined with the body of Boribaru from Mirai Sentai Timeranger (unused in Power Rangers Time Force) and the boots of Tankenstein.
- Deviot is the only villain in Lost Galaxy who served as a member of both of the major villain groups.
- Deviot should have appear in Power Rangers Mystic Force : he would have regenerated his body in the Cocoon, after Trakeena's death and would be destroyed by the Lost Galaxy and Mystic Rangers but the idea was scrapped.
- It is also questionable on how Deviot survived from the explosion on Captain Mutiny's ship after Trakeena destroyed it with him on it, and how he could return on the Scorpion Stinger.
- Deviot is one of Power Rangers Villains who didn't died for good for first time, instead returning without reason. Others would be; Elgar, Ecliptor, White Dino Ranger Clone, and Zeltrax.
- While possessing quite similar roles with his Super Sentai counterpart, Biznella. It should be noted Biznella never betrayed anyone, and had redeeming qualities, which made Biznella have more empathy. Also, Biznella had slightly rivalry with Hikaru Ginga Yellow.
