~ Devlin's philosophy on human nature, also his most famous quote.
Don't pretend you don't know, Felix. You know perfectly well what it's called, because you're the man behind it. And you only gave him that story after you'd made a good chunk of money for youself, first. That's insider trading, Felix. You are corrupt. Why else do you think I'd call you? It's 11:35. The market finds out about this in the next 30 minutes, or the world finds out about you. Yes? Cheer up, Felix. This is what's known as a scoop.
~ Devlin blackmailing Felix Staton into leaking information on the KA29 hijacking to the public.

Devlin is one of the overarching antagonists (alongside Edgar Janssen and John Bailey-Brown) of Series 1 of the Apple TV+ British drama-thriller miniseries Hijack.

He is a city trader and businessman who turns out to be an associate of the Cheapside Firm who is working with Edgar & John to orchestrate a 'bear-raid' on Kingdom Airlines in order to financially exploit their share price collapse.

He is portrayed by Kevin Eldon, who also voiced Lord Tenoroc in Matt Hatter Chronicles, and played 4 of 27 in Red Dwarf.

Personality[]

Devlin is very enigmatic, as not even his last name is known. He is a very sophisticated criminal, in the way he talks and conspires. He is shown to be very articulate, especially when he was blackmailing Felix. He is also a very intelligent businessman, as he is able to jeopardize and exploit not only Kingdom Airlines' share price collapse, but also the share price collapse of Macmillan Doyle, the insurance company that underwrites Kingdom.

Biography[]

Not Responding[]

Devlin makes a brief and first appearance near the end of the episode where he is seen talking to the Homeland Secretary. He hands him an envelope marked "Demands", and says he looks forward to speaking. He thens walks away and does not appear for 2 more episodes.

Comply Slowly[]

Devlin calls Felix Staton, a journalist, and tells him to meet him at a pub. Felix arrives, and Devlin informs him that Kingdom and Macmillan Doyle's share prices will undergo an enormous collapse. When Felix asks how, Devlin responds that flight KA29 has been hijacked. Devlin also tells Felix that he knows that the latter broke the media blackout with the gas companies scandal a year ago, and how the latter commited insider trading, and that he is corrupt. Devlin then blackmails him with this information, telling Felix to let the market know of the hijacking, otherwise Devlin will let the world know about Felix's corruption. Felix then leaves, and Devlin phones Edgar and John, saying that he's completed his part, and that the trade will work.

Brace Brace Brace[]

While not appearing in person during the series finale, he is mentioned to have kidnapped the partner of another trader, Alec, in order to blackmail him to participate in the trade. Meanwhile, after he has his henchman shoot and kill Edgar, John phones Devlin, telling him to make the trade.

Trivia[]

  • Despite the series being finished, Devlin & John have yet to meet their ends. The terrorists and cleaners were arrested, and Edgar was killed by John. However, Devlin & John haven't seem to be apprehended or found out in the least.
