~ Bagstille to the captured Sonic the Hedgehog. |
Dexter Bagstille is a supporting character turned secondary antagonist of Sonic the Comic Online! webcomic, the "unofficially official" continuation of Sonic the Comic comic book series. He is both the founder of the Macrosoft company and the former leader of the Ultimax, a superhero team that publicized their heroics for fame. His arrogance ultimately got the best of him, however, and in a bid to become the greatest hero of Mobius, he attempted to weaponize Super Sonic against Robotnik.
Biography[]
Dexter Bagstille was a genius multimillionaire who once utilized his wealth to help those in need, but later decided to become a superhero. Together with Holly Thumpfoot and Theo he formed a superhero team named "The Ultimax". When their mission to save Emerald Hill from an attack by the Green Gremlin went south, Miles "Tails" Prower had to step in and stop him himself. He soon formed a partnership with the Ultimax, becoming the team's mascot, though this also caused Bagstille to grow jealous of the fox.
Bagstille's vanity would soon jeopardize another mission, as he televized his team's exploits during an evacuation mission, which allowed Robotnik to target the tunnels where the refugees were hiding. As his jealousy of Tails grew, Dexter devised a plan to single-handedly end the war through a very risky move, and informed G.U.N. of his intentions. He exposed Sonic's secret identity of "Bob Beaky" and sent both the Babylon Rogues and the resurrected Death-Trap on his trail, with the latter capturing and delivering the hedgehog to him. He revealed to Sonic that he planned to turn him Super while keeping control over him via reverse-engineered technology from Robotnik and Zachary, and had Prank disturb Sonic seriously enough for Super Sonic to emerge once more. He then sent him to attack Robotnik's forces and Egg Bastion in particular, but Omni-Viewer's appearance allowed Super Sonic to drain him of energy and use it to destroy Dexter's restraining collar. Super Sonic, dubbed "Codename: Iblis", was unleashed, and ravaged Mobius for the next seven decades. The last few survivors managed to send Silver the Hedgehog back in time, and while he was too late to avert Super Sonic's release, he still stopped him from destroying Mobius.
When an investigation into Dexter's role in Super Sonic's rampage began, he denied having any part in it, but due to Amy Rose having suspicions about him, he sent Death-Trap to silence her. However, Amy managed to reconvince Kalus to defeat, but not kill her, and bring her to Bagstille instead. When his teammates learned of his crimes, Dexter attacked Tails in rage, arguing that as a hero, he had made a risky but necessary move for the greater good. Tails retorted that heroes risk their own lives, while Dexter risked others', and knocked him out. He was subsequently found guilty by the court and presumably given a sentence.
Personality[]
Dexter sought to become famous, which was why he televised his team's heroic exploits. Conversely, he wasn't fond of someone else being in spotlight, and his jealousy ended up leading to his downfall. Quite unlike a hero would act, Bagstille eschewed all moral ethics for the sake of regaining fame, using an innocent person as a pawn in his plan and endangering the entire planet in the process. When exposed, he didn't even try to deny his crimes, but instead attempted to rationalize them as having been done for a just cause.
Trivia[]
- Dexter's last name, "Bagstille", is an anagram of "Bill Gates", the name of the founder of Microsoft, of which Macrosoft is a parody.
