Diabolos is a recurring antagonist in Final Fantasy XIV, first introduced as the final boss of the level 50 dungeon The Lost City of Amdapor and later as the central villain of the Shadow of Mhach alliance raid series in Heavensward. A powerful Voidsent of the Thirteenth Shard, Diabolos seeks to merge the dream realm with the waking world to spread chaos and reclaim power lost since the fall of ancient civilizations.
Cunning, charismatic, and patient, Diabolos acts through manipulation and illusion, using dreams and corrupted relics to return the power of the Void to Hydaelyn.
Biography[]
Origins[]
Diabolos hails from the Thirteenth, a reflection of the Source consumed entirely by Darkness and transformed into the Void. Like many Voidsent, he crossed into the Source through planar rifts and forbidden summoning. During the height of the Amdapori–Mhachi War, Diabolos was summoned by Mhachian sorcerers and played a key role in devastating their enemies.
Recognizing the threat he posed, the white mages of Amdapor sealed Diabolos within their now-ruined city, locking him in eternal slumber using complex magicks and divine wards.
Return in A Realm Reborn[]
Diabolos is reawakened when adventurers enter the Lost City of Amdapor, which has become overrun by the Void. As the final boss of the dungeon, he attempts to trap the party in an endless dream but is defeated and seemingly banished once more.
Shadow of Mhach Plotline[]
In Heavensward, Diabolos resurfaces in full force during the Shadow of Mhach alliance raid series. He manipulates the descendants of Mhach and exploits their desire to revive the floating city of Skalla. Working in the shadows, he engineers the resurrection of Queen Scathach and manipulates the voidsent Calofisteri to further weaken the barriers between worlds.
His ultimate goal is to bring Dun Scaith, a floating fortress from the Void, into the Source — merging dream and reality to create a domain of eternal darkness. He nearly succeeds, but is confronted and destroyed by adventurers in the final battle within Dun Scaith, alongside Scathach and the remnants of Mhachian corruption.
Personality[]
Diabolos is a master manipulator. He speaks with eloquence and authority, often tempting mortals with visions of power, beauty, or forbidden knowledge. Unlike more brutish Voidsent, he favors long-term schemes and subtle corruption. His demeanor is refined, even theatrical, masking his cruelty and hunger for domination.
He views mortals as pawns or tools, rarely showing open aggression unless cornered. His obsession with dreams — both literal and metaphorical — underscores his desire to blur the boundaries of perception and subvert the waking world.
