Tonight we topple their seats of power that make them feel secure. Tonight we burn their life-giving forests and jungles to the ground. Tonight their heroes will discover the war is already lost for them before they even knew it began. And as the smoke rises the humans will took to the blackened skies for a dawn that will never come, and they will know their time is at an end. The Eternal Darkness has begun.

I had no... choice. But I was too late.... I couldn't stop it from happening. I couldn't where is Mary, Queen of Blood?

~ Dick Grayson
Richard John "Dick" Grayson, also known as Nightwing and formerly as Robin, is the main antagonist of the DC vs. Vampires comic book limited series and its several spin-offs and the overarching antagonist of its sequel, DC vs Vampires: World War V.
Becoming the new vampire king after killing the previous ruler Mary the queen of vampires, his goal is to turn everyone into vampires to enslave Earth.
The cell phone rang, and Dick Grayson answered it. His sister, Melinda Zucoo, was on the other end. She confirmed that she was alone, and Dick reassured her that no one was there except for his dog, Haley. Concerned, he asked if everything was alright. Melinda replied she was fine but mentioned hearing notices about vampires. Dick couldn’t resist making a joke about a man living in a bat cave who dresses like a bat, but Melinda quickly cut him off, wanting to discuss the matter seriously.
She explained that there have been vampire sightings in Bludhaven. Melinda was planning to mediate an office meeting but insisted it might be dangerous, asking if he would go with her for protection. Dick immediately insisted he would join her, prompting her to thank him.
Arriving at a crematory that housed a restaurant in the middle of the graveyard, they entered to find a vampire working there. One of the staff, Tig Rafelson, greeted them, revealing a hidden door leading downstairs where they would meet the Queen of Vampires, Mary. They descended to a lavishly adorned chamber that, surprisingly, Dick thought was nicer than his Batcave.
Inside, they were told only Dick and Melinda could enter this exclusive area, while Tig was barred from entry. Once inside, however, they realized the woman before them was not Mary. She seemed unfazed and calmly introduced herself as Nightwing. She explained that she had summoned them because of the Acolytes of Shadow, a group of vampires who had resided in Bludhaven for centuries. They were seeking help against Mary, who threatened their existence.
Dick was hesitant to get involved in violence, stating he was not a killer and preferred dialogue. The group had already tried talking to Mary, but nothing had changed; they found themselves under siege by a foe they could not reason with. Just then, Pandora, a vampire, summoned others to attack Dick. In a moment of chaos, Melinda urged him to flee, revealing her connection with the vampires and her intention to become one herself.
Shocked, Dick found himself torn between protecting his sister and fighting the advancing vampires. As the creatures swarmed him, he sought a way out and devised a plan to defend himself. He grabbed two flaming torches, using them as stakes against the oncoming vampires. Amid the struggle, Melinda’s true motives emerged, and it was clear she believed becoming a vampire was the path to eternity.
In the melee, she tried to convince Dick to join her side. He found himself inching closer to her neck, but just then, Pandora intervened, biting him and turning him into a vampire. As he fought to regain control, his transformation shocked the assembled vampires. With newfound strength and urgency, Dick turned to them, demanding to know where Mary was hiding.
Dc vs Vampires[]
Nightwing arrives at Wayne Manor and finds Batgirl soaking in the sunlight. As he enters, Batman calls them into the main room, where the rest of the Batman Family—Alfred, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, and Orphan—are already assembled. Batman informs them about a troubling visit from Andrew Bennett, who warned of an impending war between vampires and humans. Since his warning, Andrew has gone missing, and Batman's investigation hints that he was being followed before his trail went cold. Batman recounts his past encounters with the Mad Monk, a bloodthirsty vampire and one of his earlier foes, along with Dala, the Mad Monk's female counterpart. Nightwing recalls his previous run-ins with Dala during his Robin days. Although Batman suspects that the Mad Monk may not be the one who overthrew Mary, Queen of Blood, he emphasizes the danger posed by the Mad Monk's insatiable hunger for blood.
Meanwhile, Ratcatcher struggles with a man in the streets when Batgirl swoops in, mistakenly thinking Ratcatcher is the assailant. The man, however, reveals himself to be a vampire and lunges for Batgirl. He smugly claims that the vampires are forbidden from attacking the Batman Family, but he’ll just claim self-defense if he kills her. Before he can strike, Nightwing reacts swiftly, staking and destroying the vampire. A brief moment of flirtation between Nightwing and Batgirl follows before Ratcatcher interrupts them with alarming news—a gang of vampires has been preying on criminals citywide.
Batgirl takes the lead in her investigation, eventually finding an abandoned hotel room that seems to hold clues. Nightwing follows her inside, and they share another moment of flirtation before Batgirl reveals evidence she found: dirt in the room. Vampires need to rest above soil from their ancestral home, indicating that this particular room was booked long-term by someone named Mary Shackton, the maiden name of Mary, Queen of Vampires. Putting the pieces together, Batgirl surmises that Mary must have come to Gotham in secret, and she and Nightwing now need to uncover her intentions.
Nightwing and the others gather at Gotham Harbor, discussing the absence of Batgirl when Green Lantern and Wonder Woman arrive, seeking to negotiate a truce between humankind and vampires. However, Batman dismisses their proposals, leading to an all-out brawl. Wonder Woman initially gains the advantage until Jason Todd strikes with intense light, temporarily overpowering her with the Lasso of Truth. In the chaos, Hal Jordan reveals that confronting Batman was all part of his plan, but Batman outsmarts him by having Alfred chop off Hal's hand to remove the Green Lantern ring and neutralize him.
Meanwhile, Batgirl attempts to warn Batman of a shocking revelation: one of the Bat-family members is the king of vampires. Soon after, the Joker is discovered dead, and all evidence suggests a setup framing him. Bruce gathers the Bat-family, anxious for Batgirl’s intel on the true identity of their adversary. Dick Grayson Punch Batman in the chest is revealed himself to be the King of Vampires, shocking everyone and igniting immediate tensions. Tim Drake, utterly distraught, confronts Dick, struggling to comprehend his betrayal. Dick reveals that he has manipulated others, including Starfire, to enhance his powers. In a violent turn, Dick kills Tim by crushing his head, igniting a blind rage in Damian Wayne. He lunges at Dick but is bitten in the neck, narrowly avoiding transformation due to his fury. Amidst the turmoil, Oliver Queen, Jason Todd, and Cassie sustain grave injuries but manage to escape with Alfred. Jason attempts to confront Dick but is ambushed by Wonder Woman, who infects him with her blood as she turns him into a vampire. As Jason begins to transform, he urges Oliver to shoot him, and with a heavy heart, Green Arrow fires an arrow through his chest, leading to Jason’s demise. With their ranks decimated, the remaining heroes escape, realizing too late that the war has already begun. As the sky turns black, blocking out the sun, it becomes evident that the world is slipping away from their grasp and into the hands of the vampires.
A few months ago, vampires took over Earth, and J'onn, the Martian Manhunter, was trying to save the remnants of humanity. During this chaos, he encountered Damian, who had turned into a vampire after Dick Grayson’s betrayal. To stop J'onn from escaping, Damian used matchsticks to create a wall of fire. This led to a confrontation with Alfred, who had been manipulated into serving Black Mask.
In a darkened throne room that used to be Bruce's office, a vampire version of Alfred greeted Damian. He presented a dessert, which was part of a test; Alfred was aware of his Martian counterpart's plans. Together, they plotted to take down the vampire king. However, the chances of success were slim, as they faced formidable enemies like Gorilla Grodd, Wonder Girl, and Victor Zsasz, who were dispatched to capture J'onn while Damian battled Dick.
During their fight, Dick revealed his motives; power and jealousy weren't his driving forces, but rather revenge for his father's death at the hands of Damian. He knew Bruce would have stopped him if he found out the truth. The battle was tense, and soon the stakes rose when Damian saw Alfred on a monitor, revealing that the resistance had been captured. Faced with a tough decision, Damian chose to save the hostages rather than continue fighting Dick.
As he rushed to the resistance’s aid, Dick mocked him, claiming he wouldn’t reach them in time. In a brutal turn of events, Dick took out Black Mask and the others, solidifying his power. However, when Damian arrived, it was almost too late; the resistance was engulfed in flames, with only Alfred barely surviving. In a desperate act, Damian plunged into the chaos to save Alfred but found himself forced to kill in the process.
Recovering from the ordeal by drinking Alfred's blood, Dick arrived for a final conversation. He attempted to make amends, but Alfred remained resolute in his refusal. Dick expressed sorrow for the tragic circumstances that had unfolded, reflecting on lost friendships with Tim, Jason, and others. After a long, emotional exchange, Damian chose to leave with Dick, bidding farewell to his former ally.
Dick Grayson spent a quiet evening with Starfire, sharing his dreams and ambitions. He felt an undeniable connection with her, but beneath the surface, darker desires lingered in his mind. He imagined a moment where he would lean in closer, his instincts urging him to bite down gently at her neck, a primal urge that surprised even him.
Suddenly, he became aware of Barbara nearby, her presence a stark reminder of the complexities in his life. He turned to her, a mix of uncertainty and longing in his eyes, and caught her off guard. "Is it you?" he whispered, vulnerability creeping into his tone. As he leaned in, he hesitantly moved to kiss her, but just as he was about to give in to an overwhelming impulse, the vision twisted into something darker. His instincts took over, morphing into the urge to bite her neck instead. At that moment she realized it was all just a nightmare.
As the residents of Gotham reached the river, a sense of dread filled the air. Their goal was clear: to ruin the city, but first, they had to get past the formidable vampires guarding the banks. Just as they plotted their next move, they spotted Black Adam, a powerful ally who could turn the tide of the battle. Damian, ever the strategist, had already formulated a plan. He signaled to Black Adam, who wasted no time. With a fierce determination, Adam summoned his powers and burst into flames, plunging into the river, and creating a diversion that allowed the residents to advance. Amid the chaos, Dick noticed Starfire in the sky, He commanded the vampire forces to capture Starfire as she soared into the sky to recharge from the sun.
Batgirl and Harley Quinn make their entrance alongside Wonder Woman, rushing to Dick's side while asking for a moment alone. Dick, a bit taken aback, questions whether Barbara has come all this way to kill him. She refutes this, stating her intention is to stop him and urges him to reconsider the dark path he’s chosen. Dick scoffs at her question, pointing out the hypocrisy of condemning vampires for feeding on humans when people do the same to animals for meat. He argues that it’s in everyone’s nature to kill for survival. Harley, recognizing Dick's attempt to sway Barbara, jumps in with a wooden stake, ready to confront him. In a sudden move, Dick grabs Harley by the neck, showcasing his strength. Barbara quickly retrieves her stake, trying to reason with Dick who insists that even if he were killed, other vampires would rise to take his place. He tells Barbara that if she truly wants to kill him, she can't side with evil while still professing her love for him. In a moment of dark temptation, Dick speaks to Barbara about the bliss of feeding, and in a twisted turn, he sinks his teeth into her neck, turning her into a vampire. Sensing a shift within him after draining Harley's blood, Dick experiences a surge of power that quickly turns into self-loathing when he realizes he's been tricked. Enraged and feeling betrayed, he bursts into flames, believing Barbara has deceived him. His demise, turns to dust, marking the end of his reign as a vampire. With Dick's death comes a new beginning for Barbara, who ascends as the queen of vampires in the aftermath of the war. Meanwhile, Supergirl clears the air, allowing sunlight to reach the Earth.
Posthumous and Legacy Effect[]
His legacy lingers, casting a shadow over Barbara Gordon. Once a beacon of hope, she has succumbed to darkness, now ruling over a vampire empire that exploits humans for their sustenance. Her descent into this sinister role has strained her relationships, particularly with Damian Wayne, who senses the malevolence that has taken over his former ally.
Determined to redeem humanity and reclaim the Earth, Damian declares war against Queen Gordon. He is driven by the belief that the only solution to their plight lies in eliminating the vampire threat. Meanwhile, Wally West, once Dick's closest friend, has turned into a bitter adversary. Resentful of the vampires' oppressive rule, he has taken drastic measures, sacrificing his stability to become a generator of rebellion against the vampire scourge.
Powers and Abilities[]
Vampirism: In addition to the various mental and physical benefits that vampires are heir to, they also possess the ability to turn others into vampires as well. Each new vampire is traditionally subservient to the one who "turned" them, but some strong-willed vampires have been known to rebel against their masters.
Enhanced Senses: A vampire's senses are enhanced far beyond those of a normal human being.
Immortality: So long as vampires continue to consume blood, they will not age beyond the physical state they were in when they first became vampires.
Invulnerability: Vampires are invulnerable to most forms of injury (certain exceptions apply). Bullets, blades, and blunt objects do little to no damage to a vampire's body.
Regeneration: In addition to being virtually indestructible, whatever damage a vampire does in fact suffer can be healed through the consumption of human blood.
Superhuman Strength: A vampire's strength level is several times that of a normal human being and they are considered superhuman.
Superhuman Speed: A vampire's speed level is several times that of a normal human being and they are considered superhuman.
Superhuman Stamina: So long as they continue to consume human blood, a vampire can function tirelessly without rest or relaxation. However, a vampire's stamina wanes the closer it is to sunrise.
Psychokinesis: Most vampires possess some form of psychokinesis. Some are clairvoyant, others can communicate telepathically, and some possess mind control. Particularly powerful vampires can control the minds of several people at once.
Transformation: Vampires often possess the ability to transform into a variety of creatures or effects such as bats, wolves, rats, or even mist. While their physical attributes may fluctuate during such states, a vampire's mental acuity is the same as that when they are in their human shape. A vampire who transforms into an animal may also benefit from that animal’s attributes including razor-sharp claws, fangs, or the ability to fly. Vampires also often demonstrate the ability to alter their appearance at will.
