Dickie Moltisanti's Killer is an overarching antagonist in the HBO Television Series The Sopranos and its 2021 prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.
He is an unseen hitman in Newark, New Jersey during the 1970s, who is responsible for the assassinate of DiMeo Crime Family soldier, Dickie Moltisanti under the orders of Junior Soprano.
It is unknown who portrayed the hitman, at least the one seen in the film.
Biography[]
In 1972, the unnamed hitman is told and paid to assassinate mobster, Dickie Moltisanti under the orders of Corrado "Junior" Soprano after Dickie had laughed at him when Junior had fallen down the stairs during the funeral of Buddha Bonpensiero. On Christmas during the night, Dickie begins unloading TVs from the trunk of his car in front of his house. Suddenly, the hitman comes from behind Dickie and shoots him in the back of the head, killing him instantly. The hitman then walks away before calling Junior, telling him that he had finished the job.
Possible Culprits[]
- Barry Haydu: In the show, Tony Soprano discovered a corrupt cop named Barry Haydu, who he had believed to be the true murderer of Dickie. Tony, who had idolized Dickie as a young boy, orders his protege and the son of Dickie, Christopher to murder Barry, to which he does. However, when Christopher confronts Barry, he responds as being genuinely confused and it is possible that Barry did, in fact, not kill Dickie.
- Bobby Baccalieri, Sr.: In the Season 3 episode, "Another Toothpick" Bobby Sr. comes to town and is revealed to be have been both a professional hitman, a member of the DiMeo Family and a close friend of Junior, which would prompt Junior to most likely pick Bobby to do the job instead of a random crooked cop. The Hitman is also shown to be wearing similar clothes to what Bobby had worn before his death.
- Paulie Gualtieri: In the film, when Junior is called by the hitman, the other voice on the phone is very similar to the voice of a young Paulie. While this could be a red herring, this is unlikely as Paulie and Junior were not extremely close at this point in the series.
- Jilly Ruffalo: Jilly is an unseen member of one of the five New York City crime families who was originally supposed to appear in the film as the true killer of Dickie, however this was cut and it is unknown if this is still canon to the film's plot.
