In a few hours, there will be a timeline where no humans exist!
~ Doppler to Sam upon launching the IRPD's.

Director Doppler is the main antagonist of Serious Sam's Bogus Detour.

He is the head of Risk Assessment in the Mental-Altani Corporation. In charge of the Moon base that functions as both a research facility and a military outpost for transporting Mental's troops onto Earth, Doppler attempted to use the on-site IRPD missles to destroy Earth to spite Sam "Serious" Stone for ruining his operation.

Appearance[]

Director Doppler looks nearly identical to the other Orc mutants encountered in the game. He is distinguished primarily by his more extravagant choice of clothing, that being a red military uniform decorated with medals, a large captain's hat and blue cape.

Personality[]

Director Doppler is highly arrogant, constantly boasting about the inevitability of Sam Stone's defeat against his employees and mech suits. Despite his arrogance, the Director spends the entire final level constantly running away from Sam while yelling at him to give up. While he does personally confront Sam twice, he flees on both occasions as soon as it becomes clear that he's outmatched. When he believed to have finally cornered Sam, he taunted him with the knowledge that his IRPDs would soon wipe humanity out.

Biography[]

Background[]

Director Doppler and the rest of the Altani Corporation were once ordinary members of the reptilian Zorg species hailing from planet Beelmez IV. Once a feared empire of warriors, the Zorgs conquered more worlds than they had use for and halted their conquest for a well-earned vacation. Most of the Zorg population took their break on a neighbouring tropical planet, which proved to be a horrible mistake as their excessive sunbathing caused most members of the species to lose nearly or even the entirety of their skin.

The Zorgs tried many things to get their skin back, one of which was the use of a dangerous mutagenic chemical called the Ooze. While it did indeed regrow their skin, it also caused them to turn green, grow in size and other minor physical deformities. Upon discovery of these experiments usage of the ooze was banned, the mutants were named "Orcs" in an effort to differentiate them from the unaffected Zorg population and then promptly exiled. Doppler and the other Orcs were shipped off to planet Orazio, where they founded the Altani Corporation that specialized in planet-wide mining operations. When Mental caught wind of the Orcs and their forbidden experiments, he allied himself with them and restarted the production of ooze for military application.

Serious Sam's Bogus Detour[]

Doppler and the newly rebranded Mental-Altani Corporation set up a base of operations on Earth's moon, which would also function as a transportation outpost for Mental's troops. Experiments on the local wildlife on Earth created several dangerous creatures such as humanoid fish and spiked tortoises the size of rhinos. When Sam Stone travelled through Egypt during the events of Serious Sam: The First Encounter, these quickly caught his attention and went after the Mental-Altani Corporation in order to disrupt a potential plot by Mental.

Sam followed the trail of Mental-Altani through Alexandria in Egypt, Troy in Turkey and finally to Mount Olympus in Greece, at the top of which he found a portal that led to the moon base. Here Sam slaughtered his way through Doppler's troops and scientists until he eventually found what Doppler and Mental had been scheming: a hangar full of Interplanetary Renewal Devices (or IRPDs for short), missles filled with a dangerous bacteria that are each capable of wiping out an entire civilization and leaving no trace of them ever existing.

With the use of a decryption key found in Troy, Sam rerouted the missles to target the moon base instead of Earth but was confronted by Director Doppler himself. After a short skirmish, the Director led Sam to a testing area where he sent two experimental military mechs called the Tech-X and Prime-209 after Sam while he waited for the missles to be fueled, unaware that launching them would only lead to his own doom. He launched the missles once Sam destroyed the mechs, then stepped down from his control room to deal with Sam personally, though he retreated once Sam gained the upper hand. Sam managed to escape the moon base before the IRPDs destroyed it and then resumed his original mission back in Egypt, though the Director's fate remains uncertain.

Trivia[]

  • Director Doppler is one of a few of Mental's servants to survive his fight with Sam (the others being Cecil the Dragon and the Evil Serious Sam Clone), though it is likely that he perished soon afterwards anyways when the IRPDs destroyed his base.
