Biography[]
Do-shik's past is completely unknown except maybe that he grew up as a orphan.
Do-shik appears at the wheel of his van. He offers a young woman who has missed her cab a lift to the main road. She refuses the offer because she doesn’t know him. He insists that he is running out of cabs late at night, but fails to convince the woman. Frustrated, he opens the door of his vehicle, imitating the voice of someone in distress. The woman, who was driving away, hears the voice and approaches the van to find out what's going on. She notices that the van is full of women's clothes and contains a body. Do-shik appears masked. He forces her into the vehicle and murders her. He then calls the police. The criminal pretends to be in shock and asks the policeman for a cigarette. He then points out the bodies of his victims to the police, lying that they are immigrant workers killed by a gang. The officers are fooled and Do-shik smokes quietly his cigarette.
After this, Do-shik spots a middle-aged deaf woman in an alley and targets her to be his next victim. He follows her to stab her, but before he could do so, another woman talking with a cell named Choi Jung-soo appears. Do-shik hides his knife and ponders which of the two woman he chooses. He finally goes after the one talking with her cell and runs after her to stab her. After having done so, he hides her in a dark alley. Unfortunately for him, a young girl deaf named Kyung-mi finds the victim. Do-shik assaults and holds her to the ground to axe her. However, the young girl is saved by the victim but she escapes into a parking lot. He spots her trying to open a door but she manages to enter in the other side because he could reach her. Kyung-mi breaks into a car to join her mother, but Do-shik is also in the same car. Branding a knife, he notices the mother’s messages on Kyung-mi’s cellphone and forces her to join her. Kyung-mi suddenly stops in surprise. Do-shik threatens to stab her if she doesn't move on. As he grows impatient, Kyung-mi sends the car speeding and hits the parking lot wall just enough to make Do-shik lose his grip, allowing her to run away.
Do-shik resumes his chase of Kyung-mi. He almost catches it and slips on the high heel of his previous victim, slowing him down. Kyung-mi manages to reach her mother and activates the alarm. Do-shik is forced to give up his pursuit. He disguises himself as a respectable man and passes himself as a man who is searching his lost sister. He succeeds at earning their trust and Kyung-mi believes his sister is Jung-soo. They guide him to the alley and Do-shik prepares to kill them, but he is interrupted by the cops alerted. They are brought to the local station. The women began to grow more suspicious against Do-shik, but he announces his sister just sent him a message.
The police take Kyung-mi's statement. Do-shik tries to intervene with his "version of events", but the officers tell him to wait his turn. An old drunk insults him, saying that his parents raised him badly because of his lack of respect for elders. Do-shik pretends to be surprised at first, but then insults him back, muttering that he has no parents. The drunkard rushes at him, but is immediately thrown out of the station by the police.
Out of pure coincidence, Choi Jong-Tak, the overbearing brother of Choi Jung-soo comes in the station to tell the cops about his sister’s disappearance and shows a picture of her to everyone. Realizing his real identity will be figured out soon, Do-shik bluntly tells the Kyung-mi’s mother to be quiet or his daughter will die. He then grabs a knife to stab the brother, but the latter proves himself to be quite a challenge and a fight begins. During the fight, Do-shik taunts the brother that he said to the girl he would kill him too if he’d come to rescue her. The brother eventually gets the better of him, but the police, who were outside smoking, return and, fooled by the serial killer's innocent act, arrest the young man with a Taser, believing he had used gratuitous violence against Do-shik.
Going outside to retrieve Kyung-mi and her mother, he spots them, but a police officer interrupts him to apologize for the man’s behavior inside the station. Do-shik says it’s okay and quietly walks away with a cigarette.
Finding Kyung-mi’s address, he goes to her home. He breaks in and sees Kyung-mi in her room. Deactivating the alarm, the intruder observes him for a while. He then says that nothing was supposed to happen to her, but since she went to help the previous victim, she must now die. Do-shik rushes towards her with an axe, but she manages to avoid the blow and locks herself in her room. He tries to force the door open for a moment, then stops. He then takes Kyung-mi's mother's cell phone and tries to trick the girl to open the door by making her believe she is back at home and she is worried the door is open. Kyung-mi believes him at first but then realizes the calligraphy is not the same and understands Do-shik is tricking her.
He sees her in the doorway and tries to grab her, but to no avail. He continues to text her, ordering her to open the door. This obviously doesn't work, so he smashes it with his axe. He succeeds, but Kyung-mi tries to jump out of her bedroom window. He manages to grab her by the hair. To free herself from his grip, Kyung-mi tries to drag him down with her and he lets her fall out of fear. Getting out of the house, he sadistically chases down the streets. He traps her in a cul-de-sac. She is momentarily saved by Jong-Tak, who is about to hit him with a bicycle. To the brother complete befuddlement, Do-shik takes his knife and hurts himself to make suicidal threats to the man. When asked where the other girl is, Do-shik proposes to release her in exchange of keeping Kyung-mi. After much hesitation and pressure of Do-shik, Jong-Tak accepts. Unbeknownst to him, the serial killer gives him Kyung-mi’s address and tries to finally kill the protagonist.
Much to his annoyance, Jong-Tak calls again to find his sister. Do-shik tells him to search in the house with more efforts and hangs up. But before he could stab Kyung-mi, she throws sand in his eyes and runs away. Do-shik runs after her again. Coming back to where he left his van, he realizes his captive have gone. He looks for and nearly finds her, but he’s interrupted by Kyung-mi screaming and holding a knife. Unimpressed, he asks her where the other girl is, but seeing her still defying him, he runs toward her. Kyung-mi immediately starts the street alarm and runs away, chased by Do-shik.
They run to the downtown. Do-shik sees Kyung-mi and runs after her. The frightened girl tries to alert people. However, since she took a knife, people think she’s deranged. Seeing people around her, Do-shik prevents someone to call the police by pretending he is her brother. Kyung-mi still runs away and Do-shik chases her again. Exhausted, he stops and loses her. Fortunately for him, two soldiers brought a struggling Kyung-mi to him, believing he’s his brother. When they’re gone, Do-shik asks Kyung-mi if she truly believed people would help her and why she asked for help. Kyung-mi struggles to answer, but still manages to tell she has too many things she want to live.
Do-shik seems moved one moment by her pleas, but ultimately brushes these off and takes Kyung-mi to a dark alley to finish her. At this moment, Choi Jong-Tak arrives and attacks Do-shik, beating him until he is unconscious. Nevertheless, he regains consciousness pretty quickly and attacks the man. Before he could kill him, Kyung-mi holds her knife toward him. Taunting her about if she knows how to use it, Do-shik reveals he knows her mother is nearby and goes after her.
After some minutes looking for her, he finds her while searching her daughter and tells her Kyung-mi is in a dark alley next to them. Before the mother could fall into his trap, Kyung-mi runs into Do-shik, her knife pointed to him. Believing she wanted to stab him, Do-shik first taunts her that she cut her hand, but he's shocked to realize that Kyung-mi has stabbed herself with Do-shik’ hands to make other people on the street think Do-shik has done it. Seeing people rounding him and Kyung-mi with horror, Do-shik tries to think of an explanation but the cops arrive and hold him at gunpoint. In the confusion, Do-shik slashes the face on one of them and tries to run away, only to be stopped by another shooting in the air. Do-shik then looks at Kyung-mi. Taking her face look as a mocking smile, Do-shik becomes furious and runs to attack her, but he is shot in the back. Rising up again, he sees Kyung-mi making a finger to him. He still runs toward her in a rage, but he is shot multiple times. Do-shik still manage to stand up again and try to attack Kyung-mi a third time, but Jong-Tak tackles him on the street. Struggling to live, he mutters he’ll kill her, just for him to succumb to the shots.
Personality[]
Do-shik can be described as a sadistic psychopath who has seemingly no reason for his killing other than enjoying it. He also loves mocking others's disability like with Kyung-mi's deafness. In addition with these traits, Do-shik can be quite manipulative, seen when he manipulates two cops into believing he's been aggressed by Jong-Tak or doing the same with him into letting Kyung-mi at his mercy to search for his sister. Do-shik is misanthropic, telling Kyung-mi people are fools and don't have the courage to help her.
