Doctor Bio is the leader of the Waller Empire's Bio Army and a major antagonist in Jikuu Senshi Spielban.
He was originally Doctor Ben, a Clin biologist and the father of Spielban, who was captured by the Waller and converted into the leader of their Bio Army. He later converts himself into a Bioroid to fight Spielban.
He was portrayed ( as Dr Ben) and voiced by the late veteran singer Ichirou Mizuki.
Biography[]
Doctor Ben was a Clin scientist who was highly knowledgeable in the field of biology. For this he was captured by the Waller Empire along with his elder daughter, who hoped to use his knowledge to fuel their conquests. Under order from Queen Pandora, Ben was brainwashed and converted into the cybernetic Doctor Bio to serve as leader of Waller's Bio Army.
Doctor Bio accompanied the rest of Waller when they traveled to Earth seeking to conquer it and drain its water for their Guardian Spirit. Around that same time, two survivors from planet Clin, one of whom was Bio's son Spielban, also arrived on Earth and fought to defend the planet from Waller's invasion. After several of their schemes were thwarted by Spielban and Diana, Pandora ordered Bio to convert Helen into the cyborg warrior Hellvira so she could be used as a weapon against Spielban.
Helen managed to escape Waller, but because of the nature of her bio-implants, she could be transformed into Hellvira by Waller at any point. To keep Pandora's focus away from Helen, Bio engineered a powerful Battle Lifeform for Waller to use to defeat Spielban. Pandora was so pleased by Bio's creation that she allowed him to destroy the controller for turning Helen into Hellvira, though she kept a backup controller in secret.
After the Waller Spy Army discovered that Bio had been watching over Helen via a drone after she deserted Waller and had allowed her to thwart several of Waller's schemes, General Deathzero declared that both Bio and Helen should be punished for their treason. However, Bio then stated that he would go out and fight Spielban himself as a way of atonement, revealing that he had converted himself into a Battle Lifeform known as a Bioroid. Pandora agreed to allow Bio one last chance to redeem himself, and Bio went out to confront Spielban. After issuing a challenge to Spielban, Bio kidnapped two of Spielban's child companions to lure the Dimensional Warrior out. Spielban faced Bio and was able to overpower him, but before he could land the finishing blow Helen interfered in the fight and revealed that Bio was their father. Despite this revelation, Spielban was unperturbed from fighting Bio. It was at that point that Bio transformed into the Bioroid to take on Spielban and Diana. As the Bioroid attacked the two Clin warriors, Pandora used her backup remote control to transform Helen into Hellvira and had her join the fight as well. As the four all clashed, Pandora detonated a Megaton bomb she had placed beneath the battlefield in order to take out all four of them at once. Despite this, Spielban and Diana both survived, and Bio was able to rescue an injured Helen as well with his liquifying abilities. He brought Helen back to Gamedeath to heal her injuries, but as a result of damage he sustained was forced to reduce himself to a brain with eyes in a jar of liquid.
After Guillotine arrived from the future to assist in Waller's offensive, he ordered that Bio brainwash Helen so she would be completely loyal to Waller. Secretly though, during the brainwashing surgery, Bio removed all of Helen's bio-implants so she couldn't be turned into Hellvira ever again. After, Helen was sent out to assassinate Spielban once the "brainwashing" was complete, but as soon as the two met Bio awoke Helen from her trance. With Helen on Spielban's side now, Pandora ordered Bio be punished for his continued insubordination and had Deathzero attack him. Bio transformed into the Bioroid to defend himself but was reverted from his transformation by Pandora with a zap from her staff. Bio then pleaded with Pandora, saying he only wanted to ensure Helen's safety. Pandora agreed to spare Bio, but had his movements restricted so he couldn't interfere with Waller's schemes. He was thus subject to the whims of Pandora and Guillotine, that latter of whom poured alcohol into his tank to punish his disobedience.
He was eventually restored to his human form by the energy of the Gamedeath, and aids the heroes in fighting Queen Pandora by depriving her of her invincibility. He was killed by Pandora, but as a result of the Waller Empire's destruction, a new timeline was created where Waller never existed and Ben was brought back to life with no memory of the Waller Empire.
