Villain Overview

Wonder Woman; Who are you?
Dr. Cyber; That's right, you don't know! Well, i guess if you think of Cale as the brains of Godwatch, you can call me its hands... I've been yanking your chain for years now. You can call me Doctor Cyber.
Steve Trevor; It's a machine, some sort of program.
Dr. Cyber; Oh, master chief Trevor, i'm much more than that! I'm a fully realized, entirely liberated, cognitive neural-network in digital form. What you would call an artificial intelligence... So, no, im not just some machine... I'm the woman of your dreams, baby. I'm a digital goddess in a quantum-optical mainframe. What say you come up to my virtual place sometime and ill help fix that credit score of yours, handsome?
~ Doctor Cyber (Adrianna Anderson) revealing her true nature

Doctor Cyber is a supporting antagonist in the DC Comics universe.

The "Doctor Cyber" alias was used by two different characters, both enemies of Wonder Womam. The first one was Cylvia Anita Cyber, a crimelord from Hong Kong with high-tech gadgets and an armored suit. The second was Adrianna Anderson, a friend of Veronica Cale who was turned into an artificial intelligence after dying in an accident.

History[]

Pre-Crisis[]

Doctor Cyber (DC) 02

Doctor Cyber from Earth-One

Doctor Cyber first came to public attention during thet period when Diana Prince had sacrificed her super-powered identty as Wonder Woman and was operating as an independent agent. Originaily a stunningty beautiful women who commanded a worldwide network of secret operatives, Cyber was hideously disfigured during one of her many confrontations with Diana Prince when a dying Chinese Tong gunman hurled a brazier of red-hot coals into her face.

Vowing vengeance against Diana, Cyber has retumed to challenge her many times over the years, long after Diana regained her superpowers and resumed her career as Wonder Woman. At one point, Cyber intended to have her brilliant brain transplanted from her disfigured body into Wonder Worman's body. Another time, Cyber disguised herself as her arch-foe and framed Diana Prince as a traitor to her country. Attempting to flee from Worder Woman in a damaged rocket-eled, Doctor Cyber crashed into a cliffside and was apperently destroyed in the explosion.

During the Crisis on Infinite EarthsBrainiac assumedly retrieved Doctor Cyber sometime prior to her death and assigned her to team-up with several other villains to conquer Earth-S. after the conclusion of Crisis, Cyber was finally excised from the DC Universe.

Post-Crisis[]

I am a busy woman, Ariadne, with a great deal to attend to, and many operations at a very delicate stage. Is this meeting really necessary?
~ Doctor Cyber to Ariadne

Doctor Cyber from New Earth

Cyber, together with several other scientific geniuses and robotic beings (Automan, Brainstorm, Emil Hamilton, Ford, and Rosie the Riveter), was for a brief period part of the composite cybernetic being called Enginehead. However (if this story is still canon), the being seems to have been divided into the individual personalities again shortly after the events of the series.

Cyber is later shown re-introduced into the Wonder Woman comic by battling Donna Troy (the new Wonder Woman) and Cassie Sandsmark (the current Wonder Girl). During the Infinite Crisis storyline, Doctor Cyber appeared as a member of Alexander Luthor, Jr. Secret Society of Super Villains.

Doctor Cyber appears in the anthology series Wonder Woman: Black & Gold. In the story "How the Wonder Woman Was Brought Low by a Mouse But Captured the Stars" by Kurt Busiek, Doctor Cyber teamed up with Mouse Man to free the Human Firework from a secure laboratory. She is defeated when Wonder Woman goads Firework to use his powers to explode, knocking her out of the battle.

DC Rebirth[]

Adrianna Anderson 01

Adrianna Anderson before becoming Doctor Cyber

Doctor Cyber; You have brought nothing but ruin and misery since you arrived here, you self-righteous, arrogant, simplistic little airhead!
Wonder Woman; I--i have never--
Doctor Cyber; No? Then ask yourself this, amazon: Nothing but suffering to all who surround you, suffering to those whove never even met you! would Barbara Ann Minerva have been cursed to be the Cheetah if she had never met Wonder Woman?
~ Doctor Cyber to Wonder Woman

After the events of DC Rebirth, Doctor Cyber was reintroduced as Dr. Adrianna Anderson, a research scientist for Empire Industries and a close friend to the company's CEO, Veronica Cale. Soon after Diana left Themyscira and returned Steve Trevor to the United States, Cale's daughter Isadore was kidnapped by the gods Deimos and Phobos. To reclaim her soul, the twin gods ordered Cale and Anderson to use the experimental Cyberwalker system to find the location of Themyscira from Wonder Woman. Adrianna immediately volunteered to use the Cyberwalker suit out of fear of losing her only friend. Connected to the Cyberwalker, Adrianna battled Wonder Woman, but the Cyberwalker suit began to malfunction with Adrianna's mind trapped inside. Despite efforts by Veronica Cale to save her friend, Adrianna died.

Adrianna as Doctor Cyber

Over a year later, Veronica Cale created an artificial construct of Adrianna using what was left of her neural map in the Cyberwalker system. After learning that her physical body had died, Adrianna chose to take the name Doctor Cyber. Veronica recruited Doctor Cyber into helping her get her daughter back. She was instrumental in the transformation of Barbara Minerva into becoming the Cheetah by disabling the GPS signaling device Wonder Woman had given her, as well as keeping Wonder Woman distracted with various disasters so that she would be unable to save Minerva. Doctor Cyber also later aided Veronica Cale in summoning the sorceress Circe to transform Deimos and Phobos into dogs.

As the search for Themyscira grew, Doctor Cyber worked as a member of Veronica Cale's Godwatch organization, often sharing intel with Doctor Poison and her agents. She also participated in the coercion of Barbara Ann Minerva returning to her Cheetah form. When Wonder Woman and her allies journeyed to Veronica Cale's home for answers, they were confronted by Doctor Cyber, who revealed that she had been manipulating Diana for years. She accused Wonder Woman for murdering her by bringing her gods with her. After several taunts, her computers are smashed and destroyed by Ferdinand the Minotaur.

Meanwhile, traveling over the Black Sea, Doctor Cyber apologized to Veronica Cale for not being able to stall Wonder Woman longer. After finally reuniting with Isadore, Veronica Cale returned to her home where she dismissed Doctor Cyber as being simply an AI created from Adrianna Anderson. After erasing their illegal tracks, Doctor Cyber left Veronica Cale. Some time later, Doctor Cyber returned to Empire Industries to help Veronica Cale capture the Cheetah.

Wonder Woman '77[]

Gloria Marquez

Gloria Marquez before her accident

The character Gloria Marquez (portrayed by Jessica Walter) from the Wonder Woman television series was revealed to be Doctor Cyber in the comic book series Wonder Woman '77 Meets The Bionic Woman. In the tv series, she only appeared in the episode "The Return of Wonder Woman", being the secondary antagonist of the episode.

Gloria had been a biophysiologist prior to meeting her partner in crime; Dr. Thiago Solano. They worked together in an attempt to steal a nuclear power plant being transported to Samarra, and use it to disrupt the geopolitical power in Latin America, and eventually, the world. Aided by Gloria, Solano had worked to install himself as a puppet master for the leaders of Guanaray.

Solano's robot was a complicated servo-mechanism powered by a miniature bomb for its heart, and he suspected the new Wonder Woman was an automaton as well. So Gloria and Solano captured I.A.D.C. agent Steve Trevor and replaced him with a surgically-altered duplicate, knowing he could lead them to the top secret plans for the power plant relocation.

Doctor Cyber (Gloria Marquez)

However, Wonder Woman interfered and fought the robot, believing it to be Solano, but eventually, the truth was revealed and she launched the robot at Gloria and him. The explosion from the robot very nearly did end their lives. Instead, they were left as shells of theirselves. While Solano was paralyzed, Gloria was burned over half of her body. Lying in the hospital recuperating, the two had months to plot, and plan their revenge.

While Solano was having his body rehabilitated, Gloria could not be. Her muscles and motor functions were too badly damaged, and her nerves were in constant pain. Gloria knew that many scientists were studying the melding of cybernetic technology and human bodies. She bribed those could, and threatened others, assembling a brilliant team of surgeons and computer technicians (which includes the toymaker Orlich Hoffman and the Nazi Captain Horst Radl) at their base on Lauray. They rebuilt her, piece by piece, covering her withered and mangled arm and leg and damaged organs with a cybernetic shell, and since the she became known as "Doctor Cyber". They later joined Dr. Carl Franklin's CASTRA in an attempt to destroy both Wonder Woman and Bionic Woman.

DC Extended Universe[]

Doctor Cyber appears in the DC Extended Universe tie-in comics Serving Up Justice. This version is an old foe of Wonder Woman and a multiverse traveler, who wanted to prevent crime before it started by using her retrobots. Unlike her main comic counterpart, she uses a blue armor which gives her electrokinesis and speedster powers.

Videogames[]
