This horrible CREATURE thinks that it is merely playing a game. It feels no compassion for the lives it destroys!
~ Doctor Dominion expressing his hatred towards the Player

Doctor Dominic Newlow, later known as Doctor Dominion, is the main antagonist of the The Sims 2 PlayStation Portable spin-off The Sims 2 for PSP.

He is an evil supergenius scientist, cult founder and former doctor who has discovered that The Sims is controlled by an outside force (the Player) with a controlling device named the Plumbob, The Sims franchise's main icon and symbol used to identify the character selected, and to which the Player can give commands.

Personality[]

A mysterious character who seems to have plans for you...
~ The Sims 2 PSP description for Doctor Dominic Newlow

Dominic Newlow was initially seen as a reserved yet crafty man. Even when he openly admitted to doing less than ethical activities (e.g. spying secrets, by the Protagonist), he tried to remain civil despite his blatant intention. His reserved nature can be seen by the fact that he's the only one living alone in his residence in Paradise Place, when compared to the Protagonist with their maid, the Beaker and Rossum couple, and Hazel Dente's "lovers".

As Doctor Dominion, he is a more volatile and commanding individual. Every time he calls the Protagonist on their cell phone, it will always be his commands and orders that they will immediately obey without hesitation due to mind-control. He seems to view himself highly as well in this persona, stating that Doctor Dominion is his "real" name due to his obsession over dominating and controlling others to do what he wants.

Appearance[]

Newlow has graying black hair with a stubble visible around his chin. He wears a dark gray coat and red turtleneck sweater underneath, along with black pants and loafer shoes.

While in his Doctor Dominion costume, he wears a red mask that has a protruding lock of hair from his head, red double-buttoned outfit with the green diamond depiction on the torso and a short gray cape attached to it on the back, along with a green fanny pack around the waist. Other than jeans, black gloves and high boots, he also seems to wear either green or teal eyeshadows upon close inspection.

Biography[]

Past[]

Five years prior to the game's events, Newlow worked as an emergency medical technician when he felt haunted by the "distinct impression" that he was not completely in control of his own actions, that some sort of "external force" have seized and forced him into doing things he didn't want to do.

The so-called entity would make Newlow study constantly, go to work every day, and make more money to improve his house. This resulted in him falling into severe exhaustion and depression, as the entity refused to give him a break from the "study-work-buy treadmill".

Ironically, the constant studying made his Logic skill increase greatly to the point where he eventually realized that (and able to see) what has been controlling his mind was a green diamond (known as the Plumbob). He then spent some time along those years to invent a helmet that can take control of the said green diamond, and using it to control and manipulate other people. One notably known victim was Circe Beaker, the wife of Loki Beaker, who Newlow forced as his "obedient little worker ant" to assist him in his plans, while also having an affair with him against her will.

At some point, he settled into Paradise Place of Strangetown and befriended Isaac Rossum and his robot wife, Roberta Rossum. Her closeness to sentience made Newlow interested to pursue a similar, if not the exact same, technology that Isaac used for Roberta's brain, to be used for his machine later in the game, perceiving her as a "piece of cutting-edge technology". He then told Roberta that he had a program called the "liberator.exe" which allows her to become a "normal wife" and set her free from her scripted commands.

Newlow also known to have found and developed a cult that worships a cow demon (Beelzebeef) named the Kine Society, under the alias of "El Toro" (Spanish: The Bull). The cult presents typical cow behaviours as ways of life, portraying them as symbolisms that meant something bigger by the followers which increased over time. In reality, Newlow created the cult for the purpose of summoning Beelzebeef and abduct it for his machine.

Game[]

You don't have to trust me! My money is all you need. Just do the job, take the cash, and never speak to me again.
~ Newlow convincing the Protagonist to work for him after stealing their car

Doctor Dominic Newlow first appeared as mere voice when the Protagonist picked up a cell phone left by him near Oscar del Fuego's mechanic workshop remains. He convinced them to work for him as his assistant to get the money they need, but won't provide free lodging which gave the Protagonist the only option to find a residence somewhere else.

When the Protagonist arrived at his abode, Newlow told them to spy around and sell five secrets to him as a part of their job, claiming that he's interested in philosophy and the universe's secrets. He also stated that he'll give a bonus after five secrets has been sold, but much to the Protagonist's surprise, Newlow then quickly teleported away after they asked for the said bonus.

Newlow was then found in a secret room behind a bookcase door by the Protagonist, in his supervillain costume. He soon controlled their mind to obey everything he says, and one of the orders was for them to leave his house as soon as possible after the encounter.

Some time later, he called the Protagonist on the cell phone to gather various items and handing them to Roberta, the robot wife of his friend Isaac. Knowing that the Protagonist had followed Roberta's initial request to get Newlow's "liberator.exe" program for her, he commanded the Protagonist to say the words "newsreader", "waiter" and "trousers" in the exact order and in a sentence that makes sense to Roberta. This caused her to temporarily malfunction and immediately went into Newlow's house, which he then takes the items, her brain, and separated the rest of her body parts to be scattered across Deadtree to buy some of the Protagonist's time, as Isaac will beg them to find each one of her parts.

He showed up again for Kine Society's summoning ritual of "The Great Stampede" as El Toro, only to switch into Doctor Dominion to abduct Beelzebeef after, before teleporting away along with the ancient cow demon, resulting in the cult members' disbelief and betrayal. However, despite his actions, the cult still remains and is now mostly lead by Sinjin Balani, since many of the cult members had actually found peace within the teachings.

Later in Division 47, he's revealed to have controlled Vidcund Curious' mind into working with Dudes in Black to sell Tycho Curious, the alien baby son of his own brother Pascal Curious, with the reason "funding a secret experiment" and accused another brother Lazlo Curious for doing it, making the three brothers' relationships significantly strained at the time.

He then gets caught again by the Protagonist in The Monument after they took possession of his teleportation unit, before telling them the various events from his past that led him into how he was. Knowing well that the Protagonist would sabotage his large machine, he intimidated the Protagonist using the green diamond with his mind-controlling helmet to manipulate them into hurting themselves.

The boss fight against Doctor Dominion has two outcomes based on whether the Player chooses to let the timer run out without doing anything, or completing all the tasks.

Succeeding[]

YOU WILL QUIT YOUR GAME AND LEAVE ME ALONE!
~ Doctor Dominion's order while controlling the Player's mind

Letting the timer run out will result in Doctor Dominion's success with the machine getting into the game's system (and by extension, the Player's mind) and returning it back to the main menu.

Failing[]

Completing all the tasks until the time runs out will play a cutscene in which the Protagonist successfully placed the green diamond over Doctor Dominion's head, who was supposedly the one controlling it, canceling itself. He then screams in panic and rebuttal when a portal gets opened behind him before disappearing into it, leaving only his helmet floating mid-air.
