| ~ Doctor Poison and Veronica Cale's conversation. |
Doctor Poison is a major antagonist in Absolute Wonder Woman series from the Absolute Universe initiative from DC Comics.
She is a sentient, poisonous cloud of gas that takes physical form with containment suits and acts as Veronica Cale's chief scientist and researcher in Area 41, although at the same time is a prisoner of the place. She is based on her original comic counterpart.
Personality[]
Doctor Poison is mainly an arrogant, self centered and self perservering scientist. She enjoys to flaunt her great intelligence, and how it makes herself needed for Veronica Cale's plans. However, even if bold enough to threaten Cale, her own warden, with death over a near insult, she is also shown to be cowardly, as she begs Wonder Woman not to hit her as soon as they first meet, as the Amazon is clearly highly superior to her in power.
Biography[]
Background[]
Poison's past prior to being in Area 41 is unknown. For some time ever since she was imprisioned there, she's served as Veronica Cale's top scientist and researcher for supernatural situations, even if she clearly does not like her boss.
Absolute Wonder Woman[]
Doctor Poison first appears as Veronica Cale enters the lower levels of Area 41, before donning a gas mask and entering the outside area of Poison's cell. The doctor angrily complains about her current contianment suit, and how it makes her researching difficult due to not handling objects properly. Veronica explains the current situation she's brought will pick the Doctor's interest, before hading her a pendrive containing the hypnotic song of The Tetracide, a monster that attacked Gateway City days ago.
With the audio imbued into mechanical spiders controlled by herself, Doctor Poison attacks several citzens with it, gaining Wonder Woman's attention. When the heroine comes to confront her, Poison quickly deescalates the conflict by telling her she knows where she can find an Amazon. Diana has her stop the Spiders by threatening to throw her off the building, which Poison quickly complies. Diana asks the coordinates to the maze in which Poison claims her Amazon sister can be found, while sending all of Poison's spiders to hell.
Doctor Poison is later inquired by Veronica Cale over the losses of everything in the maze, who escaped Area 41 thanks to Diana's adventure in there. Poison is totally defensive, claiming she did as ordered, demanding again a new suit and claiming Cale won't get rid of her or send her to an actual cell because she still needs her. Veronica Cale discusses with the overseer of Poison's cell that she is going to send the Doctor to "Project SS-1".
Trivia[]
- Her complaining about how her current containment suit is a "World War II relic" is a reference about how her mainline counterpart's original appearance was in Wonder Woman's WWII comics, as a japanese mad doctor who disguised herself as a man.
- In most of her counterparts, Doctor Poison has the surname Maru, with variations including Marina, Miranda and Isabel Maru. The absolute counterpart, however, has yet to have either her first or surname confirmed.
