Doctor Stasis (Marvel)

Doctor Stasis is major villain in the X-Men franchise he is one of the three Nathael Essex clones created by the original and the one who works on post-humanity as a member of Orchis unwittingly for Enigma. His mark on his forehead is a spade.

History[]

Nathanel Essex predicted a future where machines eventually grew superior, and created the A.I. construct Enigma to prevent it. He decided to make himself a god using four clones, three of which are copies of him, while Mother Righteous is a clone of his late wife Rebecca. After the original was killed these clones awakened and escaped with no knowledge of each other. Unknown to them, Nathaniel Essex had created a fifth Sinister before his death, an A.I. construct called Enigma, and Enigma was secretly manipulating the four clones. Doctor Stasis was used to discover humanity's evolution progress and thus joined Orchis after its founding.

Doctor Stasis, like his fellow clones, is arrogant and haughty like his counterparts, with the difference is that he is bigoted toward mutants. He also misses his wife Rebecca and their son Adam, albeit his feelings toward them are toxic. He claims to have undone Apocalypse's modifications that made the original Nathaniel Essex unable to feel love. Stasis had been using Orchis for his research on becoming a Dominion which even he doesn't comprehend. This was part of Enigma's plot to provoke his own ascension.

He and Orchis would go onto to attack Krakoa in order to wipe out the mutants there and he would meet Cyclops declaring him his archfoe, which Cyclops coldly dismisses until Doctor Stasis reveals to the X-Men that he is a clone of Nathaniel Essex. During this time he would continue to lead the assult on Krakoa mutants while also working on his own agenda. Eventually he would meet the other sinisters: Mother Righteous and Orbis Stellaris, the ones working Magic and cosmic life respectively. He becomes obsessed with Mother Righteous as she is a clone of Rebecca.

In one timeline, Doctor Stasis would eventually turn on Orchis in order to become a Dominion, but Enigma hijacked his ascension.

In Fall of X storyline, soon after Mother Righteous failed her ascension, as the X-Men were fighting their final battle against Orchis, Stasis tried to flee but was killed by Emma Frost mental torture and Firestorm burn his corpse.

Powers and Abilities[]

Like his diamond counterpart Mister Sinister, Stasis has superhuman strength, speed stamina, intellect, and a healing factor. He is also a skilled scientist and geneticist like the other Sinisters.

Personality[]

Of the five Essex creations, Doctor Stasis's personality was the closest to that of the original Nathaniel Essex. The loss of Rebecca and their children still affected him, and he felt some amount of romantic love toward Mother Righteous. Stasis believes himself to be the man the original Essex aspired to be. However, he dislikes letting things change. As such, he clings to misogynistic 19th-century family values (believing himself entitled to Mother Righteous's love and obedience) and dislikes eating supper alone.

He rationalizes his hatred toward mutants as a desire to take back what Apocalypse took from the original Essex. Stasis's obsession is to transcend human limits without the use of the X-Gene. As such, he was secretly present to witness the events that gave Captain America, the Hulk and Spider-Man their powers. Like Mother Righteous, Doctor Stasis was appalled by the atrocities committed by their diamond counterpart Mister Sinister.
