~ Doctor Tengus |
Doctor Tengus is a supporting antagonist in the MMO third-person shooter Warframe.
He is a high-ranking Grineer scientist as well as the Director of the Grustrag Reconditioning Facility. He is the creator of the Grineer Ghouls and responsible for Councilor Vay Hek's bodily modifications, as well as the reconditioning of the Grustrag Three.
His attempt at creating a bio-weapon from a strain of the Technocyte Virus that survived the Old War inadvertently caused the resurrection and spread of the Infestation throughout the Origin System.
Appearance[]
Doctor Tengus wears an armored full-body suit, grey in color. His most notable feature is his large, dome-like helmet that reveals his face and features a monocle covering his left eye.
Personality[]
Tengus is a cold, self-centered scientist only concerned with making himself look impressive in front of his superiors while claiming humility. While he aided Vay Hek in realizing his vision, he used Hek's greatest moment to humiliate him in front of the Queens and get the credit for the Ghoul program. When the Tenno discovered his attempt at creating a bio-weapon for the Grineer out of the Infestation, he intentionally released the Infested specimens from their holding cells and doomed the entire station and everyone in it to cover his tracks while secretly making his escape. After the Tenno contained the outbreak, Tengus claimed credit for it in his report to the Queens and pushed the blame for the catastrophe onto the Tenno.
Biography[]
The Ascension[]
When Vay Hek was young, he approached Doctor Tengus with a vision of soldiers that could be launched in bags onto target locations from orbit, burrow and grow underground and awaken capable of conquering the region without any support from the rest of the Empire. Tengus was intrigued by the idea and helped him make his vision a reality. When the time came to finally present the fruits of their work to the Queens themselves Hek was nervous, but was assured by Tengus that this would be the day they both got what they deserved. While he botched the greeting, Hek managed to turn things around and the Elder Queen seemed to like his idea. During his presentation, Tengus slowly positioned himself behind the young councilor.
When Hek finally opened a large pit in the middle of the room to unveil the ravenous Ghouls within, Tengus kicked him inside and watched as the Ghouls ate him alive. The Elder Queen approved the project and ordered Tengus to rebuild the councilor, confident that he could still provide them more entertainment in the future. Tengus did as he was told and Hek was ecstatic that he had achieved the greatness that he was always destined for, declaring everything else maggots and choking the doctor. He would ultimately let Tengus go.
Once Awake[]
The Lotus received intel that Tengus had developed some new form of bio-weapon in one of the asteroid stations around Mercury and sent the Tenno to steal more information on this secret project. The Grineer crew stationed a the installation tried everything in their power to keep the Tenno from getting through, who overheard in a transmission between two guards that Doctor Tengus demands absolute secrecy as they advanced. Lotus notes that her scans don't indicate any sort of bio-chemical agents known to her present within the station, expressing confusion over what the Grineer were doing. When the Tenno breached a second data vault, the two guards suddenly panicked and ordered the troops to shift their attention away from the Tenno, as the Infested that were kept for experimentation had broken loose and started attacking everything in sight.
Lotus was in disbelief upon hearing the guards call the monsters "the Infested", as the Infestation was believed to have died off at the end of the Orokin era. The last thing heard from the two guards was one demanding to know who let the Infested out, the other replying that it had to have been Tengus. Lotus then confirmed that the Infested had been released on purpose. The station was lost and the Tenno had to retreat back onto their ship. Lotus quickly marked a nearby Grineer ship for extermination as it had been completely overrun by the Infested, which means everything on-board had to be killed before it could reach a more populated area. The Lotus recommended using incendiary weapons, as one of Tengus's reports they had retrieved from the station spoke of one of his experiments where he sent Grineer troops to fight against Infested specimens and noted that those who used fire-based weapons had survived the longest.
Lotus decided that the only way they could stop the spread of the Infestation is to detonate a Cascade Bomb, which would rip the life from all organic matter within the base but leave the structure intact. While they succeeded in slowing the spread, it was too late. The Infestation had been reawakened. Lotus noted that Tengus's experiments had put the entire Origin System in danger, including the Grineer.
An intercepted report by Tengus to the Grineer Queens showed him shifting the blame of the outbreak onto the Tenno, claiming that he had ordered the destruction of the facility, but that the Tenno had stolen Infested spores and was likely to use against them. He vowed that he would not let the Tenno's supposed unethical behavior threaten their glorious cause.
