Dogramag, also known as the Earth Dragon God, is a major antagonist in the manga series, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. He is the sixth member of the Five Dragon Gods and was the first to be defeated by the wizard Elefseria, though it was later revealed that Dogramag only let himself be defeated as a means of advancing a plot to restore the age of dragons.
Appearance[]
Dogramag's dragon form is that of a dragon who looks to be made of stone. He has large, tortoise-like feet with rounded, blunt claws and large, upward curving horns that almost resemble smokestacks made of cobblestones. His body is covered in rocklike scales save for the membranes of his vast wings and his squared-off teeth are on the outside of his mouth, making his face very skull-like.
In his human form, Dogramag takes on the form of a tall, heavily muscled dark-skinned man and sports black hair that hangs from his head in dreadlocks. His scales become pale, rocklike patterns on his skin with a cross-like marking over the center of his chest, and he wears only a set of trousers bearing black markings on the left pant leg and a set of fringed bracers on his arms. He remains shirtless and barefoot in human form.
Personality[]
Dogramag was exceedingly cunning, tricking the wizard Elefseria into seemingly killing him so that he could possess the wizard's heart as a catalyst to preserve his own live force while his body lay dormant in the ground. This was part of a plan he and Ignia concocted together to restore the age of dragons.
Dogramag and Ignia considered each other as friends, though Dogramag expressed disappointment upon awakening that Ignia never visited him when he was "dead", to which Ignia stated that since Dogramag never actually died, there was no reason to come and mourn the loss.
In addition, Dogramag saw humans as food, and was happy to eat them, though he was equally happy to spare a human such as Natsu when Ignia ordered him to do so.
History[]
Dogramag was born at least 400 years ago, and was present to see Acnologia destroy most of dragonkind as a whole. Alongside the other Dragon Gods (Ignia, Selene, Aldoron, Mercphobia, and Viernes, respectively), Dogramag fled the land of Ishgar and settled in Guiltina, where he would eventually gain the same power level as Acnologia over the next four centuries.
Eventually, Dogramag would face down the Dragon Slayer Wizard Elefseria, the founder of the first Magic Guild, Magia Dragon, in an attempt to seal away Dogramag's power and that of the other Dragon Gods. Dogramag allowed Elefseria to "kill" him, but demanded Elefseria's heart as compensation for the deed. Unknown to Elefseria, who was able to survive the transaction thanks to becoming a dragon himself as a result of his magic, Dogramag used the human wizard's heart as a catalyst to preserve his life force so that he could revive himself at the right moment and advance a plan to restore the age of dragons, a plot he hatched with his friend and brother-in-arms, Ignia.
For the next 100 years, Dogramag lay in stasis, building a massive labyrinth called the Great Labyrinth of Dogra as he slumbered. The labyrinth, filled with many monsters and traps, was virtually indestructible save to dragon magic. Many ventured into the labyrinth, hoping to claim Elefseria's heart, but all failed and were consumed by Dogramag as he slept.
Eventually, Selene went to the labyrinth to try and claim Elefseria's heart for herself, taking all the members of the guild Diabolos, who were all Dragon Slayer wizards, to try and claim it. They were met by the wizards led by Natsu Dragneel and his team, and Selene challenged them to enter Dogramag's labyrinth to claim the heart and beat her guild.
When Ignia appeared and entered the center of the labyrinth, Selene found and fought him. Ignia then burned Elefseria's heart, awakening Diogramag before battling and mortally wounding Selene as Natsu and Happy of Fairy Tail and Suzaku of Diabolos watched. Calling Dogramag his only true friend, Ignia watched as Dogramag awakened and emerged from the ground.
Greeting each other as friends, Ignia and Dogramag grinned malevolently as they prepared to enact their plan, with the Earth Dragon God telling Ignia to begin the plan first, as he wanted to stretch his muscles, hunt, and eat the humans present within the labyrinth. When Dogramag turned his attention to them, Ignia told the Earth Dragon that he could devour everyone except Natsu, as the Fire Dragon God wanted Natsu to witness their plan come to fruition. Dogramag agreed and challenged Natsu to a duel, stating that while he wasn't at full power after just waking up, he had all the power Elefseria had as a result of his possession of the human-turned-dragon's heart. Shifting to human form, he readied to face off against the Fire Dragon Slayer, smiling at the prospect of dueling Ignia's foster brother.
After a brief standoff, Natsu began engaging in battle with Dogramag, with the Earth Dragon God hurling boulders at the Fire Dragon Slayer. Natsu began to dodge the dragon's attacks and was about to engage the dragon in physical combat when Suzaku blocked Dogramag's blow with his sword. Deciding that fighting Dogramag two-on-one was their best option, they prepared to engage the Earth Dragon God as a united front, while Dogramag, eager for the challenge, declared Natsu and Suzaku worth his time to fight and devour.
While Natsu and Suzaku dueled with Dogramag, they were greatly disadvantaged due to his incredible strength. As they dueled, a greatly weakened Selene analyzed Dogramag before she transformed back to her human form, partially healing herself and used her spatial magic to gather all members of Fairy Tail together. Having figured out Dogramag's weakness, she pleaded for their help to eliminate all the 72 orbs, called Dogra cores, that maintained Dogramag's power throughout the labyrinth so that Natsu and Suzaku had a better chance of defeating the Earth Dragon God. Though initially apprehensive towards working with Selene, for the sake of the greater good, the members of Fairy Tail agreed to help her in order to defeat the greater threat at hand.
As Dogramag battled with Natsu and Suzaku, he initially gained the upper hand, overpowering and badly wounding Suzaku. Natsu, alarmed, rushed back into the fray, but still held back from using the full extent of his magic against Natsu on Ignia's orders. Dogramag considered humans stupid for challenging an embodiment of the earth like himself, but Natsu countered that in spite of their stupidity, humans still lived a worthwhile life. As Natsu landed a punch on Dogramag, the Earth Dragon God was surprised because he took damage from the attack, and became confused by how this was happening. Unbeknownst to him, Fairy Tail had cut his strength and was still weakening him by destroying his Dogra cores, meaning he would soon face Natsu on even terms.
Once the Dogra cores were all destroyed, Natsu's punches began to hurt Dogramag in earnest, resulting in him taking serious damage from Natsu's punch to his face. Realizing what had happened, Dogramag excitedly reengaged, eager to kill his enemies despite his newfound handicap. Working together, Natsu and Suzaku gained the upper hand, and forced Dogramag to transform back into a dragon. The Earth Dragon God used his magic to seal the two Dragon Slayers in crystal, nearly killing them, but to his surprise, both wizards broke free. Though Suzaku used up all his power, Natsu took up Suzaku's sword, combining his magic with Suzaku's and slashed Dogramag across the throat, killing him.
As Dogramag lay dying, he finally understood Natsu's true power, and why Ignia was so obsessed with Natsu. He warned Natsu however that the seeds of humanity's destruction had been sown, and that it was all up to Ignia to finish the job. With his death, the Great Labyrinth of Dogra collapsed, but Natsu, Suzaku, Selene. and the rest of the Fairy Tail and Diabolos members escaped, bringing a permanent end to the Earth Dragon God once and for all.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Earth Dragon Slayer Magic: Dogramag was a wielder of Earth Dragon Slayer Magic, and created the Great Labyrinth of Dogra using this magic while he was in a state of dormancy. Despite his great power, he is considered the weakest of the Five Dragon Gods. Nevertheless, he is still a force to be reckoned with and is at least as powerful as Acnologia.
- Law Dragon Slayer Magic: Due to using Elefseria's heart to preserving his own life force, Dogramag had access to all of the magic and knowledge Elefseria possessed... a useful trait after awakening and not having access to his full power at the time.
- Self Preservation and Resurrection: By using Elefseria's heart as a catalyst, Dogramag could preserve his life force while letting his body seemingly die, and could resurrect after Ignia burned the heart as part of their shared plan.
- Transformation Magic: Like the other Five Dragon Gods, Dogramag can transform into a human form at will.
Trivia[]
- Dogramag is the fourth dragon to be slain by Natsu, after Animus, Acnologia, and Aldoron, respectively. By extent, he is the second of the Five Dragon Gods slain by Natsu.
- Dogramag is the only Dragon God to die twice due to his use of Elefseria's heart to preserve his soul.
