~ Flipper, while crashing into Doctor Balmer |
The Dolphins are a hostile, destructive species appearing in Awful Hospital, disturbingly similar to their real-world counterparts.
Description[]
Bogleech, the author of Awful Hospital, mentioned that Dolphins in his work are disturbingly similar to their real-world counterparts. While the latter are known for their intelligence and social structures, they are less known for their sadistic and murderous sides. Bogleech emphasizes them with the portrayal of dolphins in this hospital. They can and will cause destruction and death whever they bloody well please. They use not only their terrifying strength to overcome their prey, but also their ability to not be perceived or even comprehended by them in the first place. Since they specifically target the hospital, most hospital staff has no idea that they exist, and whenever their prey would try to mention them, the concept of pray fails to exist as far as they can be aware. There are, to date, two dolphins that appear in Awful Hospital, those being Flipper and L16.
Flipper[]
This dolphin's name is not officially revealed. People simply hear that he is called Flipper. Flipper makes his appearance while Doctor Balmer attempts to take an exvironator for himself. He was allegedly sent by the Parliament of the Old Flesh to keep it from entering Balmer's clutches. Flipper easily impales Balmer's metal body, dropping the exvironator in a large vat of embalming brine. This causes the pool of embalming brine to turn red. In addition, as they both fall into this embalming pool, Flipper fuses with Balmer to become Balphin when impaling him instead of killing him. Balphin retains Flipper's strength, speed, and flight, as well as Flipper's malice, though Balmer is the main brain here.
L16[]
This dolphin appeared while Fern, Willis, and Eyeslob were fighting a weaker enemy. Its strength killed the weaker enemy immediately, and the trio of protagonists fled as soon as they could. Fern comes up with the idea of putting L16 to sleep with a hot drink obtained from Joe. While this does calm the rampaging monster, it still does sleep with one eye open, as real dolphins are known to do. This makes going around it tough still. The crew attempts to poison it with a cocktail of chemicals. The smell does wake it up, though it found the taste so putrid that it could not consume the poison. The crew then tries to mix the poison with seafood to mask the putrid flavor, and L16 falls for the bait, consuming the bait and suffering a painful death.
