The Domestic Forces are the law enforcement agency of the Fire Nation, serving as the national police who enforce laws and arrest criminals. During the Hundred Year War, the Domestic Forces' main mission was to maintain law and order throughout the country, train recruited troops for the Fire Nation Military branches, defend the nation from foreign invaders, and prevent prisoners from escaping. The Fire Nation also deployed the Domestic Forces in the Earth Kingdom during the occupation of their territories to prevent Earth Kingdom citizens from escaping.

During the conquest of Ba Sing Se, the Domestic Forces covered the majority of the city to prevent any Earthbender or other Earth Kingdom civilian from escaping. They also serve as the primary forces in Fire Nation prisons such as The Boiling Rock.
