Don Black is a supporting antagonist in the Criminal Minds episode "Lockdown". He is an incarcerated murderer and rapist who helps corrupt head guard Dale Shavers run a prison fight club in which inmates are forced to fight each other to the death.
He was portrayed by Blake Adams.
Biography[]
Black is a sadistic sociopath who is incarcerated in Reagan Federal Penitentiary for murdering a police officer, although his criminal record also includes several rapes, assaults, and burglaries. He survives in prison by helping the corrupt head guard, Dale Shavers, run a fight club in return for preferential treatment, as Black and his cellmate and partner-in-crime Weeks get special privileges in return for forcing their fellow prisoners to fight each other to the death, and often "compete" themselves for the sheer pleasure of beating someone to death.
Black's cruelty is part of what drives unwilling fight club participant Patrick Butler over the edge, becoming a serial killer who preys on the corrupt guards who take part in the fight club.
"Lockdown"[]
When the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) investigates the murders, Agent Derek Morgan interrogates Black, who says at that he would rather talk to Agents Jennifer Jareau and Kate Callahan, leering at them predatorily.
After guard Tom Polinsky confesses to the BAU about his reluctant involvement in the fight club, Shavers orders Black and Weeks to start a prison riot as a pretext to kill him. When another guard tries to subdue him, Black has two other inmates hold the man down while he stabs him to death with a shiv. He then stabs Polinsky and takes Callahan hostage while Weeks holds Morgan at gunpoint.
Another prisoner, Julio Watson, tries to get Black and Weeks to let their hostages go, but Black refuses, and further tortures the seriously injured Polinsky. Just then, however, a police sniper shoots Black in the chest, killing him, while a SWAT team apprehends Weeks and the other rioters. As this happens, Shavers commits suicide to avoid going to prison.
