Biography[]

Early life[]

Don Draper was born as Richard "Dick" Whitman on January 1926 in a brothel in Illinois to a prostitute named Evangeline who died giving birth to him. Not wanting him to be raised there, the midwife gave the baby Dick to his biological father and the man who impregnated Evangeline: Archibald "Archie" Whitman and his wife Abigail Whitman who decided to raise Dick by themselves.

As the years went by however, Dick was constantly physically, emotionally and verbally abused by the alcoholic Archibald and Abigail who called him a "whore's child" for most of the time. Sometime in the early 1930s after the Great Depression started, Dick, Abigail and Archibald met a hobo who wanted to work for them as a farmhand and assistant to Archie, realizing that he could help their conditions, the family let the hobo in and had a meal with him where Dick found out that he was from New York City. Later on, he talked to the hobo and also found out that he had ran away from his life in New York because of the Great Depression whilst he also learned the hobo code and what the symbols mean. The next day, the hobo started to leave the ranch after he got cheated by Archibald who took some of his money. Dick saw the man write the hobo code on some wood soon after before he finally left.
