Don Giovanni is a minor antagonist of Mel Brooks' 1993 comedy movie, Robin Hood: Men in Tights. He is an Italian Don and mob boss from Jersey who is hired along with his associates: Dirty Ezio and Filthy Luca by Prince John and the Sheriff of Rottingham to help eliminate Robin Hood. He also possesses a pet lizard named Charlie.
He was portrayed by the late Dom DeLuise who also portrayed Emperor Nero in History of the World, Part 1, Pizza the Hutt in Spaceballs, and Ivan Lucre in The Brainiacs.com.
Personality[]
As a mob boss, Don Giovanni can be very intimidating, mean, strict, cruel, and sarcastic. Beneath his businesslike exterior, Don Giovanni can be impatient, threatening, temperamental, and easily offended/insulted as shown when he can only put up with one of his associates, Filthy Luca's idiocy for so long until finally, he snaps and throws nuts at him in anger when the latter interrupts him during a conversation whereas he enjoys teasing his mute associate, Dirty Ezio constantly.
Biography[]
One night, having driven all the way from Jersey to England along with his associates: Dirty Ezio and Filthy Luca including his pet lizard, Charlie on such short notice, Don Giovanni comes under request to meet with the Sheriff of Rottingham at Prince John's castle for a secret meeting to discuss the latter's problem with Robin Hood. After Don Giovanni introduces his trusted associates to the suspicious Sheriff, he appears rather annoyed by Filthy Luca's idiocy just before they have even begun their meeting.
During the meeting, Don Giovanni cracks nuts with hsi bare hands then wipes his hand on Dirty Ezio after Charlie has unintentionally made number two on it due to too much excitement after being woken up; much to the Sheriff's disgust. Then, Don Giovanni explains that normally, he would be so happy to be of service, but is rather offended that never once was he invited home for coffee, cake, or ganool in all the years that they have been friends until suddenly, he finds himself unable to speak comprehensibly due to still having cotton balls in his mouth from his earlier appointment with a dentist, which he takes out and gives to Filthy Luca for safekeeping. When the Sheriff points out that his other associate, Dirty Ezio says nothing, Don Giovanni reveals that he is, in fact, a mute due to having had his tongue cut out after mocking his enemy one day, as comically demonstrated by the former who then proceeds to tease him afterwards; much to his amusement and the Sheriff's shock.
Then, when the Sheriff asks Don Giovanni what they intend to do with Robin Hood, Don Giovanni suggests that tomorrow, while they're having their medieval fun and games tomorrow, they should make the archery contest the most important event he can't resist until he is interrupted by Filthy Luca who further reveals that they will make Robin Hood an offer he can't refuse after the Sheriff asks, which provokes Don Giovanni to throw nuts at Filthy Luca in anger since he wanted to say it himself instead. However, when the Sheriff points out that Robin is the finest archer in the land, Don Giovanni has Filthy Luca show him his archery medals as proof of his better archery skills; much to the Sheriff's amazement. Then, Don Giovanni further states that after Filthy Luca beats Robin at the archery contest, Dirty Ezio makes him no more. When the Sheriff wishes to clarify on "no more", Don Giovanni simply but sarcastically rephrases in plain English that Robin is going to be dead (D-E-D. Dead.) before the men make a toast to their upcoming plan and laugh wickedly with joy; unaware that their conversation was overheard the whole time time by Maid Marian who doesn't hesitate to rush off into Sherwood Forest with her maid, Brunhilde to warn Robin Hood of the trap laid out for him.
His fate along with his associates remains unknown throughout the rest of the movie afterwards despite Dirty Ezio having failed to kill Robin Hood and Filthy Luca having been last seen getting knocked out by Little John for spoiling Robin's aim during the archery contest. However, like Prince John, it can be assumed that he and the others were probably arrested for their crimes after King Richard had finally returned to England and both Robin and Marian were married at long last.
