~ Donna to the Quill and Skull society |
Donna Sweett is the main antagonist of Season 4 and a minor character in Season 5 of CW's Riverdale. She was a student at Stonewall Pep and a member of a secret society called "The Quill and Skull".
She was portrayed by Sarah Desjardins.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Donna's past other than she was abused by her uncle at age 13. When Francis DuPont killed her grandmother, she wanted revenge and so enrolled in Stonewall Prep where she joined a secret society called "The Quill and Skull" led by Bret Weston Wallis.
Meeting Jughead[]
Donna meets newcomer Jughead Jones at a book discussion about Moby Dick. On Halloween night, Donna drugs Jughead and she, Bret, Joan Berkeley and Jonathan lock him in a coffin overnight as a prank. Jughead is eventually freed by their teacher, Rubert Chipping, the next morning. When he confronts his classmates, Bret claims it was a Stonewall Prep tradition that shouldn't be taken seriously.
Later, Donna and the other preppies welcome Jughead into the Quill and Skull by giving him an honory pin inside a skull that Jughead smashes, and having him record an initiation tape. They even sit around and tell each other secrets about their personal lives, during which Donna mentions how she was abused by her uncle when she was 13.
The death of Mr. Chipping[]
After Mr. Chipping commits suicide by jumping out a window, Jughead's girlfriend Betty Cooper finds Mr. Chipping's pin in Donna's room. Donna claims she had an affair with Mr. Chipping and the pin was a gift from him before he died. However, Betty realizes that Donna is lying when she watches her initiation tape to the Quill and Skull, in which Donna claims to have had another affair with a teacher that doesn't even exist.
Framing Betty[]
After Jughead gets kicked out of Stonewall Prep for supposedly plagiarizing his story, Bret invites him to an Idles of March celebration party which is really a trap by the preppies to kill him. While Jughead and Bret face off in a duel at the woods, Donna drugs Betty by blowing scopalamine (a.k.a "The Devil's Breath") in her face causing Betty to blackout after lying to her about an alleged trigger word she learned from Evelyn Evernever. She then drags the unconscious Betty into standing in front of Jughead's corpse and puts the bloody rock in her hands, effectively framing Betty for the murder. Betty later confronts Donna in the woods after finding out she lied about the trigger word and vows to catch her and the preppies for killing Jughead. She and Bret testify in the police station when Betty gets arrested along with her friends Archie Andrews and Veronica Lodge. Fortunately, they are released when the bloody rock that the FBI found and scanned for DNA was switched with a fake.
Jughead's Survival[]
Donna later starts to suspect that Jughead might still be alive and tries to prove this, despite Bret being convinced they killed him. She is eventually proven correct when Jughead turns up alive at Stonewall Prep, as the blow to his head was cushioned by his beanie. He and Betty lock everyone inside and explain how they uncovered the reason why they tried to kill him: Every year, Stonewall Prep chooses a new student to kill so they can write a story about it called How To Get Away With Murder. They also found out that DuPont has killed many famous writers so he can steal their work while arranging their deaths to look like accidents. Suddenly, they are joined by Jughead's grandfather and father and Betty's half-brother Charles. Forsythe reveals that he was one of DuPont's targets and that he had to leave Stonewall Prep to protect his family. To avoid being exposed as a fraud, DuPont jumps out the window the same way Chipping died.
As Charles interrogates the preppies one by one, he asks Donna why she really has Mr. Chipping's pin. Donna finally confesses that DuPont gave her the pin and told her to lie about the affair so that Chipping's death would be ruled as a suicide and prevent any investigations. She is then released, but has to leave Stonewall Prep because of the damage she and her classmates caused. As she packs her bags to transfer to another school, Betty catches her and reveals that she knows how Donna masterminded the events that led to DuPont's suicide as revenge because he killed her grandmother, whom Betty had just learned about from an investigation by Veronica's half-sister. Donna confirms this and also reveals that DuPont also stole the Tracey True stories from her grandmother the same way he stole the "Baxter Brothers" from Forsythe. Betty then blackmails Donna into dropping out of the Tracey True contract, threatening to expose the evidence and risk Donna's arrest otherwise.
Preppy Murderer[]
Months later, Donna calls Betty from a phone booth to warn her that there's a serial killer murdering the students at Stonewall Prep, including Bret and Joan. She was able to escape, but worries she might be the next victim. Betty disbelieves Donna and hangs up, although she eventually finds out that Charles is the killer with the help of his boyfriend Chic.
