| “ | The worst part about this job is you give people a second chance and you still end up having to taze them. | „ |
| ~ The Donut Cop's philosophy. |
The Donut Cop is a supporting character in Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball franchise. He is the chief of police in Elmore, but is terrible at doing his job.
He is voiced by Dan Russell, who also voiced Tina Rex, Hobo, the Ripley 2000 Manager and Mr. Chanax in the same franchise.
Appearance[]
He is a rotund, anthropomorphic donut with pink frosting. He has a large, hollow mouth with four ovular teeth, blue eyes, and he wears a navy police uniform with a golden star on his torso.
Personality[]
Despite being an officer of the law, Donut Cop is extremely moronic, lazy, and incompetent. He is often oblivious to criminal activity, wrongfully arresting people, slacking off by eating junk food instead of doing his job, and causing chaos when he should be doing the opposite. He is quite arrogant, often believing he is doing his job properly while reprimanding those who criticize him.
There are many instances where he acts abusively towards citizens, either to protect his own interests or for his own enjoyment. He is also seen committing various crimes throughout the series, despite being a police officer, which serves as a running gag and parody of real-life corruption.
However, for all his flaws, he usually has good intentions, often being affable to the people of Elmore and trying to help. Sometimes he even acts heroically, like attempting to stop Rob from blowing up a bus in "The Bus" or (briefly) Felicity's rampage in "The Law."
Villainous Deeds[]
The Amazing World of Gumball[]
Season 2[]
- "The Tag": He understandably puts Richard and Mr. Robinson under house arrest when they begin feuding. However, when they are put outside by Gumball and Darwin into a garbage bin, he tases them despite neither posing a threat.
- "The Castle": He joins the rest of the Elmore citizens trashing the Watterson household without consent. When Gumball calls the police for help, Donut Cop answers the call and refuses, ironically telling him to join the fun instead.
Season 3[]
- "The Law": Gumball and Darwin call his job boring. As such, he becomes hellbent on proving them wrong and starts abusing his authority in many ways. His crimes include scaring people using his siren to launch them into the air, after which they fall back down; using a taser to steal sodas from a vending machine, which then explodes and begins launching them out; electrocuting the robot Bobert and forcibly causing him to dance, which inadvertently turns him into a malevolent mech that shoots lasers at Gumball and Darwin; tasing air dancers and inadvertently setting them on fire; and electrocuting an ATM with the intent of stealing money, which instead just melts it all into green goo.
- He becomes even more psychotic throughout. When he damages his car, he steals one from a citizen. Then, he begins speeding across town and damaging property and endangering citizens that are nearly run over, and eventually with his eyes closed, hands off the steering wheel, and finally, in reverse. He only stops when he hits a stroller that launches a soda can at a baby's head. At the end of the episode, he rightfully arrests the highly dangerous Felicity to make up for what he did after being fired – only to let her off with a "warning" to be cool again.
- "The Pizza": Larry quits all his jobs, causing Elmore's economy to crash and fall into apocalypse. However, Donut Cop attacks Sal to steal a TV from him and begins looting stores in the decimated town like everyone else. His justification is that Larry worked as the police force accountant and he hasn't been paid, and with that, he curses out everyone else.
- "The Butterfly": He arbitrarily fines Marvin for "street dancing without a license," even though he was just reaching for a $20 bill.
- "The Friend": He and the police force try to arrest the Chimera. When the Chimera threatens to blow himself up by drinking soda and mints if they don't let him go, Donut Cop just yells "FIRE!" by misinterpreting his "manual," causing him to get tased, inject the food and explode to his apparent death.
- "The Nobody": Gumball calls him for help, since "someone" (Rob) is living in his house. However, since Gumball is in the house as well, Donut Cop just says "That someone is you" and hangs up without helping.
Season 5[]
- "The Boredom": He notices his donuts are missing and starts speeding towards the donut store. Another cop sees this and reports a speeding car to him, after which he begins chasing down who he doesn't know is himself, referring to him as the "4:00 offender." He begins driving recklessly and causes several crashes, knocks down a traffic light that falls onto Marvin's head, destroys a fire hydrant that launches him across town, accidentally decapitates Leslie with one of his rims that fell off, and bursts through several houses, setting two fires. The other cop realizes he's just chasing himself, but Donut Cop continues anyway.
- "The Stars": He refuses to do his job and stop a dangerous car speeding down a steep road, as he would be rated one star by Larry's website and "busted down to traffic cop."
- "The Heist": He investigates the bank robbery. However, he is arbitrarily hostile to Larry, who is merely suggesting more competent ways to catch the thief. Donut Cop has unfounded suspicions that he is responsible for it and even mentions having given him a full body search.
- "The Intelligence": He is the judge at Mrs. Robinson's witch trial and tries to get her burned at the stake without evidence.
Season 6[]
- "The Possession": He accidentally backs into and knocks down a tree that was untouched for generations, leaving Mr. Small upset. Donut Cop insinuates "I was never here," but when Mr. Small continues to express shock, Donut Cop claims he warned him and then tases him, leaving him screaming loudly enough to be heard across the forest.
The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball[]
- "The Teacher": It's revealed that the school's budget was squandered on high-tech gear for the police, which Donut Cop and the rest then use to falsely attack Sal, throwing their "robot dogs" from a helicopter that crush him, and destroying them in a complete waste.
- "The Portrait": The Watterson family is framed by a control officer for helping Frankie escape arrest, after which Donut Cop and the rest begin attacking them and ultimately arresting them. When he eventually releases them, it's only because he wants to hear the story in Richard's newsletter, and he promotes the corrupt officer to chief of police.
