The Doppelgangers are the overarching antagonists of the Junji Ito manga Black Paradox.
They are a group of doppelgangers of three of the manga's main protagonists, Taborou, Baracchi, and Piitan. Through their encounters, the latter group had become convinced that their death is impending, involving them being killed off by the former. They thus decide to gather together to a deserted part of the country in order to commit suicide in order to avoid being killed by these doppelgangers.
Biography[]
Background[]
The three doppelgangers that are seen throughout the manga all have unique origins both in their creation and how the protagonists met them.
Tabourou had spotted his doppelganger while walking through the city. As soon as it was spotted, it looked at Taborou with a look on its face with an intent to kill him.
Piitan was once a robotic engineering major at the university he went to. When he and his group developed the first life-like robot, they had decided to use Piitan's likeness for it. The robot itself had proven itself to be more like Piitan himself, and more popular amongst his classmates, which had left the original Piitan to feel that he is not needed and better off dead.
Baracchi, a jewelry salesperson with a large birthmark covering half of her face, had once seen herself in the mirror, and noticed that her reflection moved on its own volition, and had once imagined it telling her to die.

Trivia[]
- Even though the Doppelgangers only appear with prominent villain roles in chapter 1 and the beginning of chapter 2, their influence on the plot of the manga is still very much important. All three doppelgangers are meant to be personifications of the insecurities of Taborou, Baracchi, and Piitan, and they are the ones that inadvertently cause the quartet to discover doors into the Spirit Realm in the first place. Coincidentelly, the character's reasons for why they want to commit suicide also happen to be doorways into the Spirit Realm. Taborou's doppelganger also returns in Chapter 5 after leaving Marisou at Dr. Suka's villa, likely marking a return in him wanting to commit suicide due to survivor guilt.
