Dorapin is a major character of The Doraemons, a spin-off manga and anime special series of Doraemon. He is a famous thief who is rumored to want to steal the Doraemons' cards to take over the world. In truth, he is actually benevolent and only wants to steal them so that Dr. Achimoff will free his love, Mimimi.
He was voiced by Akira Kamiya, who also voiced Prince Sincline in Beast King GoLion.
Appearance[]
Dorapin looks identical to the Doraemons, except with mustaches and purple body. He wears a magician's outfit, completed with a hat and a cloak that can turn into wings when he flies. He always holds a red cane with a yellow orb on it, which allows him to turn people and objects into whatever he wants.
Personality[]
Dorapin is actually a good person who only wants to take from the rich and give it to the poor, as well as rescuing his love, Mimimi, from danger. He only works for Dr. Achimoff because the latter promises to free her if he succeeded, and quickly turns on him once he realizes the scientist's deception. After this, he becomes a good friend of the Doraemons.
Dorapin likes to tease others and eat dorayaki with cheeses.
History[]
In the prequel chapter The Mysterious Thief Dorapan, Dorapin tries to take back a jewel that the Duke of Monaco has stolen from the National Museum so he can use the prize money for the poor. It's in this journey that he befriends Mimimi and is given her magical orb, which can only be used by good people.
In The Puzzling Challenge Letter of the Mysterious Thief Dorapan, it's revealed that some point, Dr. Achimoff kidnaps Mimimi and places a collar on her neck, which would choke her to death if he pushed the button on his golden tooth. By doing this, Achimoff blackmails Dorapin into his service. Achimoff then orders Dorapin to take the Doraemons' cards which contain a powerful energy to activate his machine, while disguising his lair as a technology-advanced flying fortress on Paris' sky. Dorapin successfully turns most of the team into statues, except for Dora Med III and Dora-rinho due to them taking out the wrong cards.
Dorapin would then activates the water on Achimoff's fortress, which floods the entire labyrinth. He knows that by doing so, he will corner Dora Med and Dora-rinho since the former is afraid of water and the latter is forgetful. However, unexpectedly, Med saves Rinho from sinking, but faints in the process. Rinho then goes to the tower that is imprisoning Mimimi and learns Dorapin's story. Just then Dorapin disguises himself as Doraemon and pretends to ask Rinho for his card, to which Rinho, due to forgetting that the real Doraemon has been turned into stone, takes it out and is subsequently turned into stone as a result.
Dora Med, who has just arrived in time, is angered at this and turns into a giant, chasing Dorapin and Mimimi in anger. When Med invades Achimoff's fortress, Achimoff orders Dorapin to turn the former into statue. Seeing that Dorapin is just a victim of manipulation, Med tells him that he's a good person before accepting his fate. Achimoff then flies his fortress into space and uses the cards to activate his machine. When Dorapin asks to free Mimimi, Achimoff reveals that he lied before electrocuting him and sadistically taunting him for believing his lies. Angered and realize the mad scientist's true colors, Dorapin uses a card that Med gave him to destroy the button of Mimimi's collar (located on Achimoff's golden tooth), freeing her.
Angered, Achimoff escapes while Dorapin turns the Doraemons back to normal. Achimoff then throws them all into vacuum space, but thanks to the Doraemons' various gadgets, they survive, much to his anger as he turns his fortress into a gigantic robot to kill them all. However the Doraemons and Dorapin team up and destroy the robot. Achimoff then escapes back to Earth, only to be captured by the police. However, the police also notice Dorapin's presence, forcing him to leave. Mimimi and the Doraemons then bid a goodbye to him, knowing that they will reunite someday.
