“ | I'm Dorothea, the witch who runs through the Ensembleverse. I threw away my hypocrisy a long time ago. | „ |
~ Dorothea after revealing herself at Chapter 16. |
Dorothea Grecht, better known as Empress Dorothea, is the main antagonist of the 2019 dark fantasy manga The Kingdoms of Ruin, or Queen Andromeda. Essentially the seemingly passive wife of the Lydian Empire's emperor, Emperor Goethe, it was revealed that she was the mastermind of everything bad that happened once she revealed herself. This is due to the fact that the Lydian Empire itself is responsible for the genocide of innocent witches, despite Dorothea being a witch herself, known as the "Witch of the Unknown." After brainwashing Emperor Goethe and making him commit suicide, Dorothea then becomes the de facto leader of the Lydian Empire and will stop the person who tried to cause havoc and destruction, Adonis, after his beloved master, the Ice Witch Chloe Morgan, was caught during the mass genocide against the witches. It is possible that Dorothea also had an agenda of her own, and it is heavily implied that she is based on the female main character of the author's other work, The Kingdom of Culiburn.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Dorothea. However, it is possible that she and one of her minions, Usagi, manage to infiltrate their way to the Lydian Empire, brainwashing the 23rd Emperor of the Lydian Empire, Emperor Goethe, and manipulating him behind the scenes. This resulted in the murder of a lot of innocent witches that live in the Lydian Empire in a mass genocide, including the Ice Witch, Chloe Morgan. It is possible that Dorothea is also responsible for the technological advancements in the Lydian Empire, which resulted in the Lydian Empire beginning to thrive as a country and resulting in the people increasing their discrimination against the witches. After Chloe and her apprentice, Adonis, were caught trying to run away, Chloe was then murdered in front of Adonis, as Adonis was then imprisoned 10 years after the witch hunt was over. After 10 years of imprisonment, Adonis then escaped from his confinement and proceeded to cause a rampage in Lydian City. In the meantime, thanks to the constant witch hunts, Emperor Goethe becomes cursed and falls ill. Although Adonis lost against Lydian Empire soldiers and was transported into the witch world, causing several ruckus there, Dorothea decided to reveal herself to Usagi after she drove the Emperor insane and murdered himself while telling the soldiers who cornered her that the Emperor slipped through her death. After revealing herself, she then said that she threw away her hypocrisy a long time ago. Afterwards, she becomes the de facto leader of the Lydian Empire and charms all of the citizens through other stuff, such as idol concerts or when she is jogging. Knowing Adonis is still alive, she decided to prepare a giant war against him by seducing the four nations and their leaders, such as the Industrial Military Country of Micah and the Kingdom of Tranquility, Suzure, under her thumb and defeating Adonis once and for all.
