Criminals? That's how you see us? Is it a crime to steal bread to feed your family? Or to sell some weed so you can buy video games? Or to steal video games because you smoked all that weed you were supposed to sell?
~ Doug Judy

Doug Judy, also known as "The Pontiac Bandit," is a supporting character in the comedy series Brookyn Nine-Nine.

He was a famous car thief known as "The Pontiac Bandit", due to his signature act of stealing Pontiacs, as well as Jake Peralta's arch-nemesis, although the two of them were shown to be vastly similar in personality and antics. However, in spite of this, he deep down had a good side and, after helping Jake with a major case involving the former's adopted brother, he reforms himself and becomes an informant for the 99th Precinct and one of Jake's best and closest friends.

In general, Doug served as a major antagonist and anti-hero for the first three seasons before he redeems himself in fourth season and becomes a supporting protagonist in the later seasons.

He was portrayed by Craig Robinson, who also portrayed Matheson in Pineapple Express, President Jackson in the "Threat Level Midnight" movie in The Office (US), Earl Gundy in Rapture-Palooza and Mr. Shark in The Bad Guys.

Personality[]

Doug is an upbeat, laid-back, clever, and polite con artist and thief who has managed to steal over hundreds of cars and fool others through his trickery, posing as a civilian or helping out in certain situations with other criminals, only to backstab those he worked with - mostly Jake Peralta - once things worked out. He's also into pop culture and tends to be at times, rather immature and over-the-top, sense of humor. While starting out as archenemies at first and their complicated confrontations, Doug starts to see Jake as his best friend and has great chemistry throughout their past interactions, although he wasn't above using him for his own ends and backstabbing him no less. In the end, when trouble comes directly at harm's way onto Jake, Doug would go out his way to save his life on few occasions.

He seems to have a affectionate crush on Rosa Diaz, singing out her name and constantly flirting with her despite her stoic remarks at him. Doug also greatly cares about his family with no boundaries, proving to be a loving son to his mother and doesn't want her to know about his criminal life, and a protective brother to Trudy Judy, who he wishes she'd took a different path in the life he had and refuses to believe any sort of wrongdoing she was mostly capable of doing. While a car thief, Doug is shown to have moral standards as he dislikes drug dealing and doesn't trust hiring off from Craigslist.

It Charles came around in his family van and discovering this, Doug bluntly boards the van to make his escape.

During the final round when it seemed Jake got the answer wrong, he reveals that it was a distraction in order to text Captain Raymond Holt into sending backup to surround Doug. Unfortunately, Doug had a bit of a surprise of his own - he switched contacts (and changed all numbers to his phone) to send any texts directed at his sister Trudy, thus giving her and his crew the location of his whereabouts. Transferring out onto different vehicles, Doug and Jake spent the next few hours on an old, outdated, low-quality car. It was from then Doug was able to manipulate Jake into taking a different route and stir him towards the location where Trudy and his crew were waiting for them by changing his GPS.

Preparing to get in the SUV, Doug notices one of the thugs in his crew aren't the same ones and discover Trudy hired them through Craigslist. He tries to call off that Jake isn't interest in arresting them until one of their more aggressive thugs began to act out in doing their job, in response, Doug punches the assailant and made him drop his gun, allowing Jake to grab it and had them at gunpoint while Trudy escapes. Following the arrests, Doug and Jake have one final talk before he's sent to prison, just then to discover Jake's personal pen was in his pockets. Making a phone call two weeks later, he and Jake reconcile from their last meeting and reveals that he escaped prison, then reveals he's now living in Amsterdam with his wife for a much enjoyable environment, saying he owe it all to his friend.
