If you order the World's Best Boss mug, you have to be prepared to meet the world's best boss. WOO! Doug McFarland. At your service.
~ Doug McFarland introducing himself.
Oh. So you must be Benson. Can't say I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. Wooo!
~ Doug MacFarland mocking Benson.

Doug MacFarland is the main antagonist of the Cartoon Network Regular Show episode, "World's Best Boss". He is a pretentious and incredibly sadistic boss who guards the World's Best Boss mug.

He was voiced by Andrew Kishino, who also voiced Mitsuru Shinehara in the series, Ora and Janja in The Lion Guard, and also Shang Tsung and Sektor in Mortal Kombat 9, Genra in Dead or Alive: Dimensions, VECTOR in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Saw Gerrera in Star Wars: The Clone Wars/Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Fong in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Joe in Batman: The Killing Joke, Shredder in Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mantis in Young Justice and Daniel Kon in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.

Personality[]

Doug MacFarland’s personality in Regular Show is that of a pretentious, sadistic businessman and an archetypal and terrible boss.

His key personality traits include the following:

  • Sadistic and Cruel: Doug takes sick pleasure in his authority and the suffering of his enemies and rivals.
  • Arrogant and Dismissive: He believes he is the "World's Best Boss" and shows no respect for others, such as when he mockingly dismisses Benson and the park crew.
  • Manipulative and Power-Hungry: As a rival business leader, he seeks to defeat Benson and the rest of the Park Workers to assert his dominance and power.
  • Intimidating and Authoritative: He uses his position and a team of vicious employees to assert dominance and control, initially having the upper hand through intimidation tactics.

Overall, Doug MacFarland represents the absolute worst qualities in a manager, serving as a direct foil to Benson and a source of conflict over the "World's Best Boss" mug. He meets a swift, violent end at the hands of Benson, who punches him into his truck, highlighting his role as a one-off, intensely disliked villain.

History[]

Doug MacFarland is first seen breaking out of a box, punching Pops and explaining to Mordecai, Rigby, Muscle Man, Hi-Five Ghost, and Thomas that Benson doesn't deserve the "World's Best Boss" mug. Doug then sends his minions that he calls his “employees” to attack the group and seems to gain the upper hand until Benson arrives.

After hearing how the others think how great Benson is, Benson helps the park workers overpower the rest of MacFarland's minions. Doug MacFarland asks Benson what kind of boss he is, and Benson replies "the world's best boss" before sucker punching Doug in the face, causing him to stumble backward and fall right into the driver’s seat of a nearby stalling delivery truck. His head lands on top of the gas pedal, which causes the car to accelerate forward until it crashes into another nearby truck, killing him and thus finally putting an end to his reign of terror once and for all.

Trivia[]

  • His sadistic personality was somewhat based on the iconic serial killer Patrick Bateman from the movie American Psycho.
