Dr. Albert Krueger is the titular main antagonist of the horror indie visual novel Therapy with Dr. Albert Krueger created by Dino999z.
He is a self proclaimed therapist who serves as the CEO of the mysterious Krueger Health Solutions. During the events of the game, he gives the main protagonist, Taylor Lee, a therapy session against their will.
Appearance[]
Dr. Albert Krueger is a well-dressed man with stylised black hair, pink eyes and pale skin with noticeable side burns. He wears a well-kept vest with a white shirt underneath, black sleeves and a pink tie the same colour as his eyes. He wears black pants and black and white shoes.
Personality[]
Dr. Albert Krueger is very affable, always speaking to Taylor, his patients and employees with a degree of politeness. He compliments Taylor when they get questions right, and gently corrects them when wrong while still encouraging to do better. Despite this, he has a very sinister and uneasy atmosphere to him, with him constantly denying and attempting to gaslight Taylor everytime they point out that something’s amiss. He does occasionally lose his composure and acts antagonistic, most noticeably in the two times he jumpscares Taylor. He shows a dark side when he reveals his ulterior motives, and isn’t above murdering or converting his patients into monsters.
Biography[]
Dr. Albert Krueger grew up in the G2 District as an only child with parents who were well known in the medical field. He moved to the G4 District to attend the university RMU where he studied marine biology. Eventually after his father’s death, he moved back to the G2 District to inherit the position of CEO.
Krueger runs a ‘Dream Therapy’ process where he accesses people’s subconscious through a form of neuron technology he developed himself and brings them to his corporation. The game’s main protagonist, Taylor Lee, is put under this process against their will which starts the events of the game. Upon being directed to Krueger’s office, he introduces himself, explaining the concept of Dream Therapy before asking their name, age and pronouns. He then starts a ‘sanity check’, starting off with basic maths equations, showing four number cards. Getting them right will result in loud praise while getting them wrong will result in being gently corrected. Upon the 10th question, one of the cards will be covered in blood. Krueger will quickly replace it with a clean one and pretend it’s not there, gaslighting Taylor Lee when they argue otherwise.
Once the questions are complete, Krueger asks for a small break and turns up the game’s background music. The two make conversation, where Taylor finds out about his educational background and the fact they both grew up in G2. Krueger ends the break and moves onto the next section, a game of cups and balls. Krueger realises he lacks a ball and excuses himself. A scream is heard outside and Krueger returns, pretending nothing happened. He presents an eyeball as the ball and upon being questioned, states a patient donated it to him, implied to be the cause of the scream from earlier. He then shuffles the cups around a few times, progressively getting faster.
Krueger asks for another break. He gets a phone call and answers it, presumably speaking to an employee. He seems to discuss some plan with them, though details aren’t given, and says ‘No, William. We’re not killing it” stating that he’d prefer another solution first. Taylor asks if everything’s okay, and Krueger assures them his team is well trained. After chatting about his CEO position, Krueger ends the second break. This next section is what Krueger calls “the Gateway to Your Heart”, where Krueger will ask Taylor personal questions. Taylor objects to this, only relenting when Krueger offers to be asked questions in return. Krueger instructs them to close their eyes and not open them until the section is complete. For the first question, Krueger asks Taylor about their upbringing. After Taylor answers, Krueger tells them about being an only child. Krueger then asks Taylor how they feel about their connection to other people. Upon being asked back, Krueger will simply tell Taylor he feels connected to his patients. The sound of kittens crying can be heard in the background. If Taylor opens their eyes on the first two questions, they see nothing unordinary and Krueger will question why they did so.
On the third question, Krueger asks what’d they do if they had a magic wand. Krueger answers by initially saying he’d want to erase all mediocre people while strange distorted guitar music plays. He would then claim it to be a joke and say there’s nothing he’d want to change. If Taylor opens their eyes this time, they see a horrific distorted head run across the room. Upon being questioned, Krueger will suggest Taylor is hallucinating. For the final question, Krueger will ask Taylor if they ever had the desire to murder, dismember and turn someone into a hamburger. Horrified, Taylor will vehemently say no and ask if they do, to which Krueger will merely state they don’t like hamburgers. If Taylor opens their eyes, Krueger will distort and jump scare them before pulling back and apologising, stating they got “too excited” from hearing their answers.
Krueger starts the final break, which is interrupted by the drunken slurring of a patient from outside. Krueger will state that he will fix the problem. Taylor will ask him not to kill the man, to which Krueger will amusedly act astounded they’d assume that of him. He’ll play a cheesy commercial for the company while he’s gone. Upon return, he will initiate the final section of the session, a rorschach test. Taylor is given a series of inkblot tests and asked to state what they most resemble to them. They have the option to flip the page over, to which Krueger will be disappointed and ask them to not do that again. The inkblots become progressively more distorted and demonic looking. After the section is finished, Krueger will express gratitude to Taylor for taking the session, even if unwillingly, and invites them to fill out a post-therapy assessment. From here, the endings will diverge depending on the choices made prior.
Bad End (1/3)[]
If Taylor had gotten a mix of the maths and ball choices wrong and had opened their eyes and flipped the page over at least once, then Krueger will ask for one last request; to sacrifice themselves for the G2 District. He states he needs them to feed the people and promptly murders them before thanking them for their contribution. An after credits will show Taylor’s ripped apart body. They’re somehow still alive, encouraging the player to start the game over and try getting all the questions right. This unlocks the first ending.
Bad (True?) End (2/3)[]
Upon replaying, Taylor will express vague familiarity with the game’s events. To achieve the next ending, Taylor gets all maths questions right, picks the right cup each time, doesn’t open their eyes and doesn’t flip the paper. Certain dialogue gets expanded upon, implying that Kreuger feels lonely after leaving G2 District and may have grown up neglected by his parents. Instead of the commercial playing, it will be a distorted creepy video, which Krueger remarks as being the wrong. This time, Krueger will ask Taylor to become one of his “Dream Eaters”.
It’s at this point that it’s revealed this Dream Therapy process is a front for Krueger to find potential candidates to join an army of servants he’s building, which he plans to use to defend G2 District from an unnamed threat. People who displayed ‘mediocrity’ during the session, getting the questions right or wrong, are used as food for the Dream Eaters while people who answer correctly and always follow his rules join the army. Taylor refuses but is forcefully converted anyway, becoming a distorted pale monster.
Good (True) End (3/3)[]
In this ending, Taylor gets every question wrong, opens their eyes everytime and flips each inkblot over. Some dialogue changes, such as Krueger openly admitting he misses his time at G4, openly states his childhood was lonely and instead of the commercial or distorted video, it’s simply a cute video of skeletons dancing. Things change with the rorschach test, where the final inkblot being flipped reveals a sketch of a man with Krueger’s signature. Upon being questioned, Krueger will lose his cool and jumpscares them in rage, crashing the game. Reloading the game will have Krueger immediately apologise for his outburst. He’ll tell Taylor that the drawing was an old college classmate of his he’d developed a rivalry with. Despite being enemies, Krueger admits he feels a sense of fondness for his rival and misses his college days. Taylor will switch the session on him, telling him he should contact his friends if it upsets him this much, to which he says he’ll think about it. Krueger ends the session and starts to ask them to fill out the post-therapy assessment before stopping himself. He says goodbye to Taylor and hopes they’ll meet again.
Taylor will wake up at their computer, wondering if it was all a dream. However, a text file opens on their computer, which the end credits show to be a letter from Krueger, telling Taylor they’ve talked to their friends and are opwondering if they want to meet up in person sometime.
