“ | Even that accursed Nopon managed to churn out a few artificial Blades. So why can't I?! I ruminated over that for a long time. But upon seeing you, it hit me like a thunderbolt! Trying to augment children to create Blades was quite the wrong way to go about it. But instead, if I were to start with a real Blade? The plan is foolproof! I could create the greatest Blade Alrest has ever seen! A genius such as myself could never lose out to a Nopon! | „ |
~ Dr. Castrofari |
Dr. Castrofari is the main antagonist of the "Eternal Spirit" sidequest from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Biography[]
Castrofari is a mad scientist obsessed with the concept of artificial Blades following Bana's escape from the Old Factory in Mor Ardain. Unlike Bana, Castrofari plans to create his artificial Blades out of living beings instead of regular Ether Crystals and chooses children for the sake of science.
Hiring mercenaries from the Ardainian terrorist group Lindwurm, Castrofari kidnaps numerous children across all the Titans of Alrest to serve as his test subjects. This gains the attention of the party and Perun after seeing a missing child notice on a board in the Argentum Trade Guild. Following interrogations from the parents of the missing children and the soldiers of Mor Ardain and Tantal, the group is able to track a pair of goons attempting to smuggle children out of Tantal in the port. After defeating them, they learn about Castrofari's laboratory in the Old Factory.
Arriving at the entrance of the Old Factory in Mor Ardain, Perun uses herself as a decoy to distract the mercenaries while Rex and the party rescue the captive children. Meanwhile, Perun comes to a group of children, falling into a trap set by Castrofari. Having been aware of someone coming to rescue them as one of his ships never arrived, Castrofari offers a deal to Perun; he will let the children free if she takes their place. But telling the sarcasm in his voice, Perun refuses, knowing that Castrofari will not let the children escape alive. Castrofari laughs and calls Perun a sharp one, taunting her that once he gets rid of the children, he will experiment on Perun until she is nothing more than a withered husk.
Castrofari then orders his men to kill Perun and the children, but the party manages to catch up, defeating the guards as Castrofari makes a run for it. Cornering him at Bulge Harbor, the party falls into another trap where Castrofari was hiding members of Lindwurm and orders them to kill the party. Fortunately, the party prevail and defeat the members, leaving Castrofari shocked over how a single Blade was able to defeat him. Resisting her urge to kill the mad scientist for his crimes, Perun leaves Castrofari to be arrested by Ardainian soldiers, predicting that he will get a sentence of at least 50 years. With Castrofari arrested, all kidnapped children safely return home, much to everyone's relief.
