Dr. Chaplin is a supporting antagonist in the third season of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. He is a young, enthusiastic scientist working for the Foot Clan as a replacement for Baxter Stockman.

Biography[]

Chaplin first appeared in the season 3 episode "New Blood", introduced as an engineer recruited by the Shredder to retrieve Triceraton technology. The Shredder was impressed by Chaplin's special Amazonian mechs, giant fighting robots that were styled after Karai, whom Chaplin had a crush on. Chaplin was also an idol of Baxter Stockman, whom he replaced as the head of the Science Division. Stockman would attempt to sabotage Chaplin's operations on several occasions. Chaplin later created an upgraded version of Stockman's Mouser robots. However, they were not effective against the Turtles and Chaplin's inexperience with alien technology nearly led to the destruction of Beijing.

Chaplin was also the captain of Shredder's space vessel as it departed Earth's atmosphere. He expressed his enthusiasm for the job, not even bothered by Shredder's true Utrom identity. Chaplin was later sent back to Earth along with Karai by the Utroms.

Dr. Chaplin resurfaces in the "Lost Season", again the head scientist of the Foot, now under Karai's leadership. He attempted to help Karai fight off the resurrected Tengu Shredder, and subsequently helped the Turtles, Karai, and other allies in defeating the Tengu. Chaplin was also responsible for designing special Mystic Tech weaponry, which are mainly made up of blasters, with a sword version made for Karai's use. During the battle, Chaplin met Stockman again as they teamed up. Despite Stockman's numerous betrayals, Chaplin still worshipped him. After the Shredder is defeated, Karai finally returns Chaplin's affections for her.

Dr. Chaplin last appeared in the seventh season with Karai, in which they attend the wedding of Casey Jones and April O'Neil and help the Turtles defeat the Cyber Shredder.
