Dr. Death (known as Darkness Bat or Dark Bat for short in Japan, is a supporting antagonist in the Golden Bat franchise. He is the evil counterpart of Golden Bat.

In the anime, he is voiced by Masao Takato in the Japanese dub. It's unknown who his English voice actor is.

Overview[]

The Golden Bat (anime)[]

Dr. Death is a monster originated from ancient Atlantis just like his heroic counterpart Golden Bat, who has fought with him for over a thousand years. In his past, he led his ninja-like subordinates and would cause multiple amounts of trouble; those being of stealing things and endangering others and alot more, but this all came to a halt when he was sealed away by a monk of the temple using the stone tablet. Thousands of years later in the modern day, he was revived by one of the henchmen of the infamous tyrant Dr. Zero by opening his coffin discovered by his assistant Gorgo in an area underwater which was once the place where the continent of Atlantis sank. When the Blue skeleton soon discovered that Zero was the new owner of the stone tablet, he was forced to obey his orders if he didn't want to be sealed away again.

Dr. Death has the ability to transform his Black Baton into a large snake which quickly wraps around the enemy and strangles them. In battles against the Golden Bat, it was used as a signature move both 50,000 years ago and in modern times. He can also use his cloak to create wind, with the likes of his nemesis.

Dr. Death cooperated with Dr. Zero and his gang and agreed to help them vanquish Golden Bat. He was hoping to one day meet him… Dr. Death impersonated Golden Bat and started causing chaos for his own fun and to make the public think Golden Bat is a bad guy, such as destroying a children’s funfair and robbing banks alongside stealing a bank truck with the police chasing him. He also managed to have his ninja subordinates revived but this time with their appearances turned into copies of Dr. Death himself to make them more powerful and they all started bombing the city. Later on, Dr, Death met his archenemy Golden Bat in a dungeon after not seeing eachother for centuries, so they tormented eachother until Golden Bat managed to kill him and turned into ashes.

Weeks later, he was revived once again by Gorgo and a Witch with her powers and joined them once again, in Zero’s room, the Golden Bat showed up and they both fought once more until he managed to briefly put Golden Bat to sleep. He then started causing chaos in the city such as destroying buildings, causing explosions and endangering others. He then went to Dr. Steel and Mary’s hotel room and threatened them until he got strangled by magic. Golden Bat impersonated Dr. Death which fooled Dr. Zero and the others until he revealed his colours of golden. After the latter killed the witch, Dr. Death once again turned to ashes.

A time or so later, Dr. Death once again shows up underwater after Golden Bat shows Dr. Steel the way to escape. The two skeletons begin battling, but when the whole area begins to crumble, they both agree to continue their fight in the four dimensional world to battle in peace. So their fight got crazier and crazier where he would also strangle Golden Bat with his baton-turned snake, but failed miserably since he managed to get it off. Dr. Death got more aggressive, but it got a bit more tricky, and it all came to an end when Dr. Death was hit with a beam of light and accidentally stabbed himself in the chest with his own baton, he was surprised and admitted to Golden Bat that he is too strong, and finally accepted his defeat. He also claimed that he cannot be revived again since no one can come back to life in the fourth dimensional world and turned into ashes, and this time for good.

Appearance[]

Dr. Death has the same character design to Golden Bat's save for that his body is coloured Marine blue. He also wears the same attire as him with the color differences being that his black cloak has lighter blue accents and wears dark blue boots.

Personality[]

As all the information above implies, he is violent, evil, cruel, heartless, aggressive, unsympathetic, scary, sneaky, smart, arrogant, brash, uncaring, rude, greedy, petty, vulgar, selfish, destructive, and reckless. He shows no fear towards anyone with the inclusion of the powerful Dr. Zero until he was informed by the latter that he was the new owner of the stone tablet, forcing him to obey his orders if he doesn't want to be sealed away again.

Death has a huge hatred towards his archenemy and seems to care about absolutely no one but himself, though he was however thankful and did offer whoever opened his coffin and revived him a favour. For his hobbies, he seems to enjoy chaos along with battling his enemies. He cackles in a maniacal manner similar to the Golden Bat's albeit in a different tone. He even has a disdain of being given orders which in result can cause him to go barbarous. Death is in addition, a complete thug, he steals valuable things much to the enjoyment of himself.

Trivia[]

  • Dr. Death was inspired by Black Bat, the original form of Nazo from the story of the same name which is the predecessor of Golden Bat.
  • Unlike Golden Bat (in the anime), he is shown have the ability to open his mouth widely. He is in addition more talkative and expressive than him, its unknown why this doesn't go for the former.
  • It's hinted that Dr. Death (possibly along with Golden Bat) has another weakness of not being able to fly if he doesn't wear his cape, since in the flashback of his fight with Golden Bat in his debut, it appears the former was worried about plummeting down behind the stairs while he didn't wear the accessory.
  • In his debut, his baton was silver, but when he returned in episode 51, it was black.
  • Dr. Death resembles Skeletor from the Masters of the Universe.
  • He also resembles the vintage American comic book heroine Fantomah's transformation.
  • In the manga, Dr. Death does not exist, however some of his characteristics seem to have been merged with the titular antagonist of the franchise, Dr. Zero: in the manga, in fact, Zero is a being as old as Golden Bat and has a thousand-year-old feud with him.
