Dr. Eggman is a major antagonist in the 2015 toys-to-life video game LEGO Dimensions, specifically serving as the main antagonist of the "Sonic Dimensions" campaign. He is a mad scientist from the Sonic the Hedgehog dimension who enacts various schemes in order to take over the world. He is also Sonic the Hedgehog's arch-nemesis.
He was voiced by Mike Pollock, who also voiced his modern, Sonic X and Sonic Boom counterparts.
Appearance[]
Dr. Eggman shares the same appearance with his modern game design. He is a large bald man characterized by his giant mustache. He had a red and yellow jacket, goggles, white gloves, black and grey boots, and black pants. However, all of Eggman's features have been translated into Lego, giving Eggman a plasticky appearance.
Personality[]
One of Dr. Eggman's most noticeable traits is his egotism. He has a very high opinion of himself and often brags about his plans. he is quick to anger, seeing as how he yells at Sonic whenever he gets in his way. While being a mechanical genius, he can sometimes lose focus and be outsmarted, such as when Sonic caught him off guard by complementing Eggman's mustache. He is also capable of manipulating others, such as when he tricked the player into gathering chilli-dogs for an evil plot.
History[]
Dr. Eggman mentions that he has been batttling Sonic for twenty-five years. Judging by ceartain lines of dialouge in the game, it can be implied that Eggman had previously enacted simular schemes to his video game self, such as roboticizing people, turning Sonic into a werehog, and controlling the Time Eater. It is also mentioned that he used to own a machine that made Mean Beans, though he quit because he found it ti be a "niche" market. At a more recent point, he found the Keystone Deviche that belonged to Lord Vortech, and used it to create a new plan.
After Sonic had found the seventh Chaos Emerald, he traveled to Tails's workshop, only to find Eggman with the Keystone Device and the other six emeralds. Eggman informed Sonic that he had captured all of Sonic's friends and that he would get rid of them if Sonic didn't hand over his emerald. Sonic, however, distracted Eggman by complementing his mutache, allowing Sonic to free his friends. After this, the Keystone Device overloaded, which created a portal that sucked in Eggman and his emeralds.
Dr. Eggman landed in Emerald Coast, where he and Sonic battled. Once Sonic beat him, Eggman opened up a portal and fled. After collecting another Chaos Emerald, Sonic followed Dr. Eggman to the Death Egg. Eggman sent Robo-Sonic, Mecha-Sonic, and Metal Sonic to defeat the original, but none of them prevailed.
Dr. Eggman then traveled to Metropolis Zone, though after he was defeated by Sonic and Tails, he fled to Lava Reef Zone. He and Sonic once again fought, and Dr. Eggman once again ran away. While Dr. Eggman was traveling through a dimensional portal, he had another encounter with Sonic, who stole his Keystone Device. Sonic used the device to send Eggman away, and then met up with his freinds.
After his last defeat, Dr. Eggman returned to the Death Egg. When he saw Tails and Sonic, he fired at them, though it didn't stop Sonic from entering. Dr. Eggman then tried to defeat Sonic with his Death Egg Robot. They fought for a bit, but Dr. Eggman ran away when he saw that Chaos had followed them to the Death Egg.
Sonic fought Chaos, but he was unable to defeat him without all seven emeralds, and Dr. Eggman held the final one. Sonic asked Eggman for his emerald, but Eggman declined. Thankfully for Sonic, Amy arrived and took the Emerald from Eggman. Using the seven emeralds, Sonic transformed into his super state and defeated Chaos. With his plan ruined, Dr. Eggman exclaimed that it wasn't over between him and Sonic, and escaped through a nearby portal.
Dr. Eggman also appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog hub world for a mission. He has the player gather chilli-dogs, which Eggman insists are for feeding orphans. Once the player completes the mission, Dr. Eggman reveals that he's actually planning to use the chilli-dogs to capture Sonic. He then gives the player a gold brick in an attempt to bribe them into not telling anyone about the plan.
Trivia[]
- In the game, Dr. Eggman is a big fig. This is unlike any of the actual Lego Dr. Eggmen, since the first one was brick-built and the second one was a minifigure.
- The brick-built one still uses big-fig hands, however.
- Dr. Eggman mentions that, prior to the events of the game, he had a machine that made Mean Beans. This is a reference to the 1993 game, Dr. Eggman's Mean Bean Machine.
- A parade float of Eggman appears as a mini-boss durring the level "Breaking the Barrier" of the 2016 Ghostbusters campaign.
