Dr. Holmes is the main antagonist of the 2020 Roblox indie horror game, Horror Portals.
He is the titular doctor of the Holmes Hospital who has conducted many experiments involving DNA and doll making in order to avenge his dead daughters Hope and Faith, being responsible for mutating multiple victims, including Amber. He was also one of HIM's henchmen.
Throughout the game, it has been shown how terrifying Holmes's experiments were, as they led to morbid, twisted, mutated patients haunting the hospital in order to search for victims to murder, as well as creating the dolls that he now owns, including the Isabella Doll (which explains why it was acting strange in Happy Birthday Isabella).
Appearance[]
Holmes is a man with black hair, multiple scars on his face as well as a black mask. He also wears a black suit and white shirt, as well as a black tie.
Personality[]
Holmes was usually a kind, caring figure, admiring his family, saying that they are the reason that he remains happy all the time. However, after Grace was attacked by an entity, he became an insane, unethical doctor who transforms dolls into haunted monsters and even conducts multiple experiments on patients, turning them into horrifying, hostile creatures in an attempt to avenge his dead family.
Biography[]
Happy Birthday Isabella[]
Holmes is first shown in the alternate secret ending of the chapter, kneeling alongside Lapine and Jolly in front of HIM, who orders them to not fail him, in risk of being killed for defying his orders.
Jolly's Carnival[]
Holmes appears three times in this chapter as the overarching antagonist, with one appearance setting up the events of Holmes Hospital.
In the Bad Ending, he is mentioned by Jolly, saying that he must now take the bodies of Josh, Tiffany and Timmy back to him, as it would ruin his carnival and future.
In the Secret Ending, he asked Jolly if he had what he was looking for. Jolly then says that he gathered fresh organs from a blond male (who is none other than Josh), who he drops inside a machine that creates the doll version of Josh, revealing how the dolls (including the Isabella doll) were created by Jolly himself, with Holmes owning his body.
Holmes Hospital[]
Holmes appears as the titular main antagonist of the chapter. He is the titular doctor of the Holmes Hospital, an abandoned hospital where he conducts multiple experiments that turn patients into monsters, including Amber.
First seen in a flashback, Holmes was celebrating Christmas with his two daughters, Faith and Hope. Soon after, another flashback shows him with his wife Grace and her daughters having a diner together, telling them that they are the reason why he can keep smiling all the time, waiting for many days to achieve the "PERFECT" day on that Christmas day.
However, while Holmes was calling Grace about Hope's condition, which was going well thanks to Holmes's medicine, he hears Grace being attacked and killed by a tentacle monster (revealed to be a mutated Hope), worrying him as the call cuts off. At that point, he decided to save his daughter by joining an entity known as HIM, who would give him the opportunity to become the founder of Holmes Hospital, which would later be abandoned and filled with mutated patients that Holmes captured and transformed using his experiments. He was also shown to have dolls, revealing to have manipulated the strings behind all of the encounters the players have been through, including Amber's transformation into a hostile creature and the Isabella Doll's hostile behavior.
The players finally encounter Holmes himself on the hospital's rooftop, determined to stop him in order to avenge all of the missing friends he has captured and turned into creatures. Holmes then engages them into a final battle.
Boss Battle[]
During the battle, he will use syringes in an attempt to defeat the players. He has multiple attacks, like throwing three needles in the left, middle and right sides. It is advised to dodge them, as getting hit will refill his health. However, at the same time, his attacks will also deplete his own health by 5 each time, so the best way to win the battle is survive.
Defeat and Normal Ending[]
After the battle, Holmes is now kneeling on the ground, exhausted and defeated. The player then decide to inspect his body, where another flashback shows that Grace was attacked by none other than her own daughter, Hope, who was mutated because of Holmes's "medicine".
Josh Ending[]
It is discovered that Holmes was also the one who captured Josh and ordered him to do his bidding, saying he would love to see him transform for him, showing Josh's fate as he turned into a grey, clawed monster.
Secret Ending[]
While Holmes doesn't appear directly in this ending, he is directly mentioned, possibly by HIM, who declares that Holmes has failed to save her daughter, after it turned her into a monster.
Trivia[]
- He is widely considered to be the main antagonist of the entire game, because not only he appeared in all three games, but his actions have also influenced all chapters, like the creation of the Isabella Doll that the players found near the pond in Happy Birthday Isabella as well as the reason why twisted patients are roaming around his hospital.
