~ Dr. Huesca pretending to be attacked by someone while in his critical lab (which has only one means for an attacker to make entry) in an attempt to lure Yuma Kokohead, Desuhiko Thunderbolt, and Fubuki Clockford to their deaths, only to fail and be killed for real due to Yakou Furio being manipulated into killing him by Makoto Kagutsuchi and Yomi Hellsmile.
Sacrifices are necessary during experimentation. I needed our experiment to create a homunculus first to silence that pesky Unified Government. To conduct the experiment in utmost secrecy, I purchased the entire surrounding village and made it a restricted area. And so, three years ago...the fateful Project: Homunculus began.
~ Dr. Huesca's motive behind why he rushed his homunculus research.

Dr. Huesca is one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside the Homunculi and the Unified Government) of Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. He is the head researcher and weapons designer of Amaterasu Corporation, Yomi Hellsmile’s accomplice, and the director of the company’s failed homunculus experiment three years ago.

He is voiced by Kazuhiro Yamaji in Japanese and Michael Sorich in English.

Biography[]

Dr. Huesca is the head researcher of the Amaterasu Corporation, and is therefore responsible for the streamlining of all of their products and the company’s secret experiments. He strongly believes sacrifices are necessary for research, no matter how unethical this belief is, and has a negative reputation in Amaterasu’s industry, not liked by any of the company’s researchers, especially Akira, the robot researcher. Though it’s unknown what happened prior to his known activity, he starts conspiring with Yomi Hellsmile five years before the game is set, presumably under threat from Yomi. They intended to sell Amaterasu’s assets and earn profits from other enterprises so that Yomi could use his power to control Amaterasu Corporation’s factions into following his bidding, therefore securing Yomi’s position in the company, and allowing him to be invincible in his power over Kanai Ward as Peacekeepers’ director. Initially, this happened because it was necessary, as the company’s initial takeover caused chaos in the city; unfortunately, Yomi had a power trip and ended up abusing his power and security, instead using it to oppose anyone he perceives as “evil” and kill others he perceives as hindrances or criminals without restraint.

Ten years before the events of the present day story, the Unified Government began their homunculus research in their goal to create an immortal army with the perfect homunculus, and chose to use the DNA of Number One of the World Detective Organization to achieve this goal, and hired Amaterasu Corporation for competition. When the UG was successful in making the perfect homunculus out of Number One’s DNA (Makoto Kagutsuchi), Dr. Huesca was prompted to complete the experiment on his end to catch up. The doctor set up a secret research facility and made it into a restricted area so he could conduct the experiment in secret using Kanai Ward’s residents as a base for the homunculi he would create, and Yomi ordered the extraction of the DNA of all of Kanai Ward’s residents to use as a base. While this produced homunculi successfully, he ended up with defects as one of his tests resulted in them dying from sunlight, and upon adjusting their genetics, the homunculi had flaws that the homunculus of Number One did not and instead went berserk upon exposure to sunlight, with an apparent had a lust for human flesh, in the likeness of zombies. As a result, Dr. Huesca made a video log regarding the flaws of the homunculi that records the event of his death before they turned to slaughtering all of Kanai Ward’s human residents and Amaterasu Corporation’s employees. The homunculi then took their place before the UG’s perfect homunculus clone of Number One, Makoto Kagutsuchi, escaped from their research facility and covered up the truth from the homunculi that Dr. Huesca had created, blocking out the sunlight to revert them to a pacified state and kidnapping human criminals from around the world to account for their hunger for human flesh and converting them into meat buns to keep their bodies and zombie-like hunger for it sustained, essentially becoming their leader and tricking them into thinking that nothing had happened during Dr. Huesca’s homunculus experiment, with the only one aware of what happened in detail being the doctor himself and Makoto, who oversaw every aspect of the event himself. Makoto then blackmailed the Unified Government with threatening to tell public of them instigating the homunculus research in the first place, isolating Kanai Ward from the world and stopping the UG from wiping Kanai Ward off the map, becoming Amaterasu Corporation’s new CEO in the process and becoming Kanai Ward’s ruler, at least nominally, since Yomi, a subordinate of the company, had been the one in control instead. This wouldn’t stop Makoto from shutting down the homunculus research to stop the creation of more homunculi, though, and Dr. Huesca and Yomi’s protest would mean nothing to Makoto, as he was the company’s new commander. Yomi also had the homunculus of the former CEO assassinated out of spite.

Believing Yomi to be a problem and needing to take advantage of his original counterpart to protect Kanai Ward’s homunculi, now that he is their leader, he used his power as Number One’s homunculus to send Master Detectives to Kanai Ward and oppose him. Yomi masterminded a massacre of said detectives in advance, having expected it would happen, leaving behind the original Number One, Halara Nightmare, Desuhiko Thunderbolt, Fubuki Clockford and Vivia Twilight as the remaining survivors of said massacre. Number One resigned from his position beforehand, and after Vivia’s arrival, Yomi sent a letter to Yakou Furio, the detectives’ chief and leader, detailing that Dr. Huesca was responsible for the death of his wife four years ago (a year after Yomi’s rise to power) so that Yakou would be instigated to target Dr. Huesca for murder following his betrayal of Yomi six months ago, as Huesca intended to leave the Amaterasu facility and take his research with him. Yomi threatened the doctor through email when hearing about this, and the doctor isolated himself in his research lab to keep himself safe from whatever Yomi had planned for him, setting up a security system involving a grid password and a gas chamber that would dispense a lethal gas he created by accident that would kill anyone within 30 minutes, replacing it with the sleeping gas initially used in the chamber.

Unfortunately, this wouldn’t stop Yakou from his new goal, as he was determined to have the doctor killed, unaware he was actually helping Yomi in his agenda, and unknowingly to Yomi and Yakou, Makoto’s agenda as well, as Makoto would take advantage of Yomi’s plot to distract Yomi and find evidence of his conspiracy with Dr. Huesca and implicate him of his crimes, having introduced Yakou to Fink the Slaughter Artist as part of this plot in order to create confusion surrounding Fink’s presence in the research lab. Following the death of Dr. Huesca’s homunculus, Makoto disposed of his now-zombified body in Kanai Ward’s restricted area in order to cover up the truth, and his homunculus went back to the initial research facility where he conducted the research, where he was met by the original Number One and interrogated regarding his previous homunculus research, which he explained in detail, now feeling disgusted in himself for his failed experiment, though he realizes this too late as he is now stuck in a zombified form for eternity. After Yuma leaves the research facility and defeats Makoto, it is unknown what happens to Dr. Huesca’s homunculus afterward, though he is assumed to still be residing in the original research lab.

Trivia[]

  • His name is likely a parody of Albert Wesker, the main antagonist of the Resident Evil franchise. This is partially supported by the game making many references to the Resident Evil franchise as well. Despite Dr. Huesca's villainy, his level of heinousness is ironically still not able to match that of Wesker's.
