Villain Overview
This article is about Robotnik's incarnation from Sonic the Comic series - you can find information on the mainstream version in Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.

Citizens of Mobius! Heed my words! The so-called "revolution" is over! I am still your master! Over the last few months, I have been foolish enough to share my power with another. I have now rectified that mistake! The recent battle has been a learning experience. You have all learnt to fear me even more... for you know I am invincible... and I have learnt never to trust anyone with my responsibilities! I will rule this planet! Mobius is mine... forever!
~ Dr. Ivo Robotnik
How eggs-asperating! That hard-boiled blue blur has escaped my badniks again! But I, Doctor Robotnik, genius egg-straordinary, have a plan to fix that meddling hedgehog for good! Not to mention conquer the world!
~ Robotnik in the very first volume of the series

Dr. Ovi Kintobor, later known as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, is the main antagonist of the now-discontinued British comic series Sonic the Comic published by Fleetway Editions, and its online continuation Sonic the Comic Online!. He is the archenemy of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Ovi Kintobor was a kindly scientist who sought the Chaos Emeralds to purge all evil from the world. By an unfortunate twist of events, Kintobor was taken over by all the negative energy on Mobius that he had collected, creating the horrible monstrosity that named itself Ivo Robotnik, a fusion of Kintobor, the Chaos Energy, and a rotten egg.

While the true Kintobor was still a part of Robotnik, a recollection of Kintobor's memories was transferred into a ring, which was used for the basis for a supercomputer that had a hologram of Kintobor's head.

Biography[]

Sonic the Comic[]

Originally a kindly scientist by the name of Ovi Kintobor, this version of Robotnik originally sought to erase all evil from Mobius via the use of Chaos Emeralds and was responsible for granting Sonic his amazing speed and distinctive blue coloration.

However something went horribly wrong during Kintobor's quest, and he became corrupted into the larger-than-life monstrosity, Robotnik, an insane, sadistic and power-hungry tyrant who sought to conquer Mobius in keeping with the events of the original Sonic games.

As the series progressed Fleetway's Robotnik would become ever more dangerous, arguably more than his Archie counterparts, though he would eventually be dethroned (however Fleetway have never actually killed Robotnik off).

Whereas all other incarnations had Robotnik as a human scientist, Fleetway's version was not a human, but rather the physical manifestation of all negative energy on Mobius combined with Ovi Kintobor's intelligence and a rotten egg, making him the only true egg-man out of all the other incarnations of the doctor.

Sonic the Comic Online![]

Act 1[]

Robotnik returns in the unofficially official continuation of the original comic. At some point after the Chaos incident, the evil doctor was captured and locked in the asylum before being broken out and joining the Syndicate. The Syndicate's living weapon, Shadow, knew that Robotnik used to be his caretaker Kintobor, and sought to fulfill the insane doctor's wish of destroying Mobius. In the end, when the Syndicate's plans failed, Robotnik was saved from certain death by Shadow. He was eventually found by the Drakon Empire, who intended to use him as a means for their own conquest of Mobius, and connected to a computer that allowed him to control a myriad of Badniks.

Robotnik eventually announced his return as the leader of the New Robonik Empire, starting the War of Mobius. At some point, the program that allowed the Drakon leaders to control him was erased by Shadow II, and he began acting independently. He was eventually defeated and drained of his Chaos Energy by Sonic and Tails, though his digital copy remained active.

Robotnik, greatly weakened by the energy drainage, reappeared working with Vermin the Cybernik, and the two attempted to use Sonic as a Chaos Energy battery to sustain Rovotnik. Sonic, however, managed to defeat them and bring Kintobor back. Sadly, Kintobor was forced to sacrifice himself and become Robotnik again to prevent the Chaos Tap left behind by the Drakon Empire from destroying Mobius. Robotnik forced Sonic into a pact: he would dispense the Chaos Tap's energy over the course of a year while being allowed to rule over Egg Bastion's zone. Having no choice, Sonic agreed and left, leaving the doctor free to plot his demise.

Exit: Sonic[]

At some point in the future (unclear whether it happened in the Online! timeline or an alternate one), Robotnik disappeared in a Chaos Vortex, only to end up on the Floating Island after some time, where Knuckles and Porker imprisoned him. However, Grimer found his master thanks to a tracking device and released him. It turned out that the duo had come with Super Sonic in tow, ready to finish the original Sonic off. Before he did so, Super Sonic tried to kill Robotnik as well, but he was shielded by Grimer and thus didn't die instantly. After Super Sonic and Sonic were merged together once again by Porker, he drained Robotnik of his energy, turning his back into Kintobor, presumably for good.

Appearance[]

At the beginning, Robotnik once looked like his classic Japanese games design where he had three triangular tufts sticking out of his moustache along with the inclusion of his white gloves, albeit he still had his blue glasses depicted as empty black eyes which was traditional in the 1990's for Sonic media in the West. After the following story he was no longer seen wearing his white gloves and his moustache got curvier exactly matching his appearance seen on the western artworks for the original games even though its largely the same as the JP one. After that he sometimes wore his Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog portrayal's bodysuit design combined with his classic red top and short yellow cape attached to his shoulders by the triangular collar. When his two image consultants Thomas and Miller claimed that they wanted to give Robotnik a make-over, causing the doctor to go livid and throwing them out of his office, he later admitted that they were right in a way, agreeing his current body has served its purpose and it was time for a change... He encased himself in a giant egg, preparing for his transformation which occurred in issues 21 and 22, the new body would become the one exactly based off his Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series design. This change was permanent. Had the Fleetway comics continued officially, it was planned that Robotnik would use this ability again to achieve his physical appearance from Sonic Adventure, however he did wear his Sonic Adventure designs signature jacket and the rest of the attire, despite still having his AoStH head.

As Kintobor his appearance was still similar, though he was a lean and slick man as opposed to obese, he even had an oval shaped bald head, he also had a long strip of ginger hair behind his head, resembling his moustache. For attire, he wore a white lab coat and white gloves and silver pince-nez sunglasses which both likely nod to the ones of his JP design, though he discarded both of the said attire when he transformed into Robotnik. Save for that (as mentioned above) in the first issue, Robotnik originally wore his white gloves before discarding them after that.

Personality[]

Fleetway's Robotnik is possibly the most sinister of all the bad doctor's incarnations. This mind-twisted monstrosity was a sociopath who thrived on other people's pain and misery, and actually had people executed, usually for committing the most insignificant of misdeeds.  One citizen stated, 'the crime for ANYTHING around here is death!'  He was also a master of disguise and the only incarnation of Robotnik to have Mobians working for him, like Tekno the Canary, who quit and Dr. Zachary. He also was lucky in having Grimer, the only assistant who was both competent and didn't plot to betray him. Robotnik could also be a deadpan snarker, with a droll sense of humor.

Much like Archie Comics had based their Robotnik on his SatAM version, so was Fleetway's Robotnik based on the Robotnik from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Ironically, despite sharing physical appearance with the goofier version of Robotnik, his personality was the opposite, and he was a very valid threat to Mobius. Some even consider him darker and crueler than the SatAM version. The later design combines elements from both the AoStH and Sonic Adventure looks.

The personality of Fleetway's Robotnik has varied as different writers have had different ideas on just how threatening they wanted him to be. While always dangerous, he was originally also slightly comical with an obsession over egg puns, however some writers objected to this and made him completely serious.

As a result, Robotnik would change considerably and while still retaining some comedic charm when needed he was, in general, a truly monstrous character and often plotted to destroy the planet entirely: this trait would separate him from all other Robotniks. Out of all the versions of Eggman it was the Fleetway version that actively sought to destroy Mobius and almost succeeded on several occasions.

Powers and Abilities[]

Despite his obesity, Robotnik possesses insane physical strength and durability likely due to his weight and size. He can also absorb Chaos energy and is capable of altering his physical appearance through regeneration. He regenerates by encasing himself inside a large egg until his transformation is complete.

As God Robotnik, Robotnik is almost fully omnipotent. He can edit and modify the timeline any way he sees fit, rewrite any event and warp reality itself and teleport himself and others. For offense, Robotnik primarily resorts to lasers. These lasers can also teleport others and knock them out in one shot. Robotnik can also alter memories and make others fight for him through mind control, as well as clone himself, infect others with diseases, turn others into himself, fly, change shape and size, turn others to stone, strip others of their abilities and resurrect and summon anything.

God Robotnik's only flaw is that his powers can be removed through the Grey Emerald, reverting all of his changes : he is also limited in the fact that his own personality causes him to be easily manipulated by Sonic, who uses Robotnik's great insanity and egoism against him, tricking Robotnik into extremely foolish actions that contributed to his own demise (this also proves that while Robotnik had some degree of omniscience he was not fully omniscient by any means since he could not tell that Sonic was tricking him (though, as mentioned before, his own insanity and egoism may of blinded him to this fact regardless).)

Trivia[]

Sad robotnik

Deep down, Robotnik just wants to be loved.

  • He crossed the Moral Event Horizon when he went through a phase of clinical depression and said he would be happy if Chaos destroyed the world and killed everyone, including himself. Arguably, he did this earlier when it was revealed he was actually executing citizens. This version of Robotnik is less of a control freak, enjoying spreading needless destruction, loving chaos, fear and uncertainty, and inflicting cruelty on others, making him the scariest and most unpredictable of the doctors' incarnations.
  • He had several moments where he was actually comedic, such as in a strip that was never released, revealing he enjoyed reading teen romance and drinking cocoa, and even tear-jerking and it was revealed he is secretly lonely, especially at Christmas. Santa Claus attempted to change his ways, but to no avail, and after Santa left, he realized he had made a big mistake, stating ''I have no friends at Christmas.''
  • While now having his AoStH design, his personality is similar to the one of his Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM counterpart's where he is more serious and unsettling, whereas Robotnik is an incompetent, silly, and bumbling idiot in the television series his former design originates from.
