Dr. Mendel Stromm (Raimiverse game adaptations)

Dr. Mendel Stromm is a supporting antagonist in the 2002 video game Spider-Man, an adaptation of the eponymous superhero film.

He is a scientist at Oscorp who tries to help Norman Osborn in capturing Spider-Man and Scorpion.

He was voiced by Peter Lurie who also voiced Kraven the Hunter in the same game.

Biography[]

Due to General Slocum giving Oscorp a week to prove that they can develop a working serum or they are going to use the contract to quest labs and how much they have invested in this research, losing the contract could bankrupt Oscorp. Norman Osborn assumes that Spider-Man is related to their problem in some way. Dr. Mendel Stromm then tells Norman Osborn that, as the video showed, Spider-Man possesses all of the attributes that their project hopes to create, the size that he has augmented spider DNA in his system and feels certain that an analysis of his blood will enable them to complete their serum. He then suggests to Norman Osborn that they could modify the hunter-killers to track this DNA signature and capture Spider-Man. Norman agrees to it, but Spider-Man manages to defeat the hunter-killers. Dr. Mendel Stromm is later seen with Norman again, telling him that they have a problem: their systems are detecting two distinct targets, and both genetic signatures resemble Spider-Man's, then tells Norman to take a look at the map, then tells him that each target is unique but both have characteristics of arachnid DNA. Norman then tells Mendel that they don't have time to dawdle, have the Hunter Killer's force both targets into the same area, once they are together, capturing both subjects shouldn't be a problem, Mendel agrees to it.

It turns out this other target is Scorpion. The Hunter Killers fail to capture Spider-Man and Scorpion after Spider-Man and Scorpion defeat them, and later, after the board members fire Norman. Norman tells Mendel that it is time to test the serum, then tells him that they are proceeding with a human trial, Mendel doesn't agree, but then Norman tells him either prepare the chamber or his resignation, either way he is testing the serum now, Mendel reluctantly agrees. when Norman gets inside the chamber, Mendel injects the serum; when the gas gets in, Norman goes crazy and then becomes unconscious. Mendel becomes concerned for Norman and then checks on him to see if he is okay. He then thinks he is dead, but Norman wakes up, now as the Green Goblin, then throws Mendel out of the chamber, killing him in the process.

Trivia[]

Only the video game version is a villain while his movie counterpart was more of a neutral character, similar to Lizard, with Dr. Connors being a neutral character in the movies but a villain in the games.
In the Game Boy Advance version, he survives giving Osborn the formula and willingly helps him in his life of crime.
