So wise. Indeed, my encounter revealed my true calling: to become humanity's guardian, the hero this planet needs. With my enhanced form, I shall rid Earth of all violent beings, starting with all Cybertronians.
~ After explaining his backstory, Dr. Meridian reveals his intention of wiping out Cybertronians from the Earth.
Thrash: You've lost your mind! You said you hate Transformers, but look what you've done to yourself!
Mandroid: I do what I must to survive, because of the Transformer threat!
Thrash: And now, there's no difference between you and the people you hate!
Mandroid: Cybertronians
aren't people!
Thrash: Cybertronians
are people, and we're the ones saving Earth tonight! From you!
~ Dr. Meridian argues with Thrash as he called him out for letting his hatred towards Cybertronians consume him and hypocriscy, especially with telling Mandroid that the Cybertronians are the true protectors of humanity.
This world is finally free of those monsters...
~ Dr. Meridian's last words where he insults the Cybertronians before he readily accepts his death, after he activates the spacebridge to briefly deactivate all Cybertronians; his victory would also be short-lived, as Robby and Mo Malto used their cyber-sleeves to successfully revive all the Autobots, Decepticons, and Terrans.

Dr. Meridian, also known by the nickname Mandroid, is the main antagonist of Season 1 of the 2022 cartoon series Transformers: EarthSpark and its video game adaptation Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition.

He was once a scientist in the Transformers war but ended up being the victim of an attack that killed most of his teammates and cost him a right arm. In his quest to wipe out all Cybertronians on Earth in order to "protect" humanity and get revenge for what happened to him, he willingly augmented himself, progressively became an evil far worse than Megatron during his days as a ruthless Decepticon leader. He is the Malto's Family arch-nemesis.

He was voiced by Diedrich Bader who also played other animated villain roles, like Warp Darkmatter in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Tank Evans in Surf's Up, Rat King in The Penguin of Madagascar, and Hundun in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. While disguised as Agent Schloder, he was voiced by Marc Evan Jackson, who also voiced Bradford Buzzard from 2017 DuckTales reboot and Agent Trout from We Bare Bears: The Movie. In the Japanese Dub, he is voiced by Nobuo Tobita who also voice the Major in Hellsing and Clovis la Britannia in Code Geass.

History[]

Past[]

Dr. Meridian: Let me begin again. Conversation was difficult after my time in the war.
Dot: You serve too?
Dr. Meridian: My contribution was scientific. I was drafted by G.H.O.S.T. to toil in their robotics laboratory. After a year of laboring on projects I detested, Decepticons attacked San Francisco.
Dot: Yeah, I remember. I let an infantry platoon at the Battle of the Bay.
Dr. Meridian: Then perhaps you recall the Autobots' friendly-fire destroying buildings. My Arachnamechs dragged me to safety, saving me the only way they knew how. I came away with... souvenirs.
Dot: Me too. I judge a person by their actions, not their prosthetics.
~ Dr. Meridian explaining his backstory to Dot Malto.

Dr. Meridian at one point was drafted into the Transformers war. He worked for humans as a scientist to help fight against the Decepticons. At one point his base was attacked by an Autobot-friendly fire, Numerous people were injured in the blast but Meridian was saved due to his Arachnamechs. However, Meridian would end up losing his right arm and having it replaced with a metal one. Eventually, the war ended when Megatron reformed, however, Meridan wasn't able to let go of what happened to him and held a grudge against all Cybertronians, seeking to wipe them out so that he can be the "hero" the planet "needs".

Season One[]

Meridian first appears in the series proper in the episode "Secret Legacy" he, using his Arachnamechs, was able to figure out about Twitch and Thrash who are a new species of Transformers that are from Earth. Meridian would eventually up dubbing them the "Terrans". When Twitch and Thrash are about to be taken away to G.H.O.S.T., Meridian has them secretly kidnapped and plans to experiment on them. When Twitch and Thrash wake up in Meridian's base, Meridian tells them about who he is and what he dubbed them, as a response Twitch gives him the nickname of "Mandroid" much to Meridian's annoyance. Meridian intends to harvest the two for scraps, but before he can, the Autobots attack his base and retrieve the two. Meridian is able to escape and continues to plot his plan to wipe out Cybertronians.

Meridian's next appearance is a brief one in the episode "Traditions", where he is trying to use Hardtop's arm as a weapon. However, he is having trouble with it, so he orders his Arachnamechs to bring him more Cybertronian parts.

Meridian makes his final appearance in the two-parter "Age of Evolution", he is seen in his lab where Skywarp and Nova Storm show up after they caused a ruckus at the ceremony. He berates the two for their failure to get anything. However, he is happy that this whole thing has caused Megatron and Prime to be painted poorly by the media. He knows that he won't be able to continue his plan when the Cybertronians are more powerful than him and thus sets his new plan into motion. Meridian uses holograms to disguise himself and his Arachnamechs and pretend to capture Skywarp and Nova. However, when Megatron and Dot arrive, he springs the trap and captures both of them. When Dot and Megatron are brought to his base Meridian explains his past to Dot to which Dot reveals she also lost her leg during the way just like Meridian lost his army, she does sympathize with him to an extent, but Meridian refuses to step and plans to forcefully remove Megatron's arm so that he can use its power.

Dot is able to stall Meridian for a while and when Meridian catches her again, he orders his Arachnamechs to kill her. However, just in time, the Autobots arrive, the Terrans try to disguise themselves as Decepticons, but Meriden sees right through it and their fake Deception logo, so a massive fight ends up breaking out. The Autobots are able to escape with Dot and Megatron and Meridian brings out a giant mech he had in case he needed it. He then starts firing a massive canon randomly at the Autobots hoping to hit one of them eventually. The Autobots however are able to damage his mech badly enough that it sinks into the water, seemingly killing Meridian.

However, Dr. Meridian is revealed to have survived and moved to Philadelphia where he collaborated with the underground Brawl Bot, forcing many Cybertronians to fight each other and take away the spare parts from those who lost. When Bumblebee, Malto siblings and the Terrans are investigating the Brawl Bot operation, he brainwashed a young Terran named Hashtag by putting a mind-controlling chip on her, forcing her to fight against her family. Despite the fact that he managed to mind-break her from the inside, Hashtag is able to release herself from his control with the Malto siblings and Terrans' supports. Dr. Meridian is eventually approached by Agent Croft who recruits him into making more chips and offered him a small doses of Energon and Decepticon prisoners for him as a test subjects.

Now united by their common cause in wiping out Cybertronians on both Earth and their home planet, he developed Ghoids, elite troops G.H.O.S.T which secretly robots capable of overpowering Transformers. It was while spying on Malto kids that he learned about cyber-sleeves worn by Robby and Mo which he believed to be the key to restore his health which deteriorated from his augmentations so far. His attempt to kill the two via. holographic Megatron failed due to receiving blessings from Quintus Prime but, Mandroid nevertheless severely injured Robby and learned about Emberstone's existence, leading him to request Croft to retrieve the artifact. Fortunately, Quintus Prime helped the Maltos rescue the Emberstone so Mo could defeat Mandroid and successfully restore Robby's health with the Emberstone.

After a few more battles in the final episodes of Season 1, Mandroid used his energon-draining weapon to shut down the Cybertronians; after he falsely believed that he won the final battle of "The Last Hope, Part 2", Mandroid died from energon-infusion terminal cancer. His victory was also short-lived, as Robby and Mo Malto used their cyber-sleeves to successfully revive all the Autobots, Decepticons, and Terrans.

Personality[]

Thrash: My family brings people together!
Twitch: G.H.O.S.T., Autobots and Decepticons! Humans and Cybertronians together! You've lost sight of what you're fighting for, Mandroid! You've lost that spark of hope inside, your humanity!
Thrash: Without it, all that's left is hate!
Twitch: And anger!
Thrash: And fear!
Twitch: The Maltos are the ones making the Earth a better place!
Thrash: We are the legacy of hope!
~ While standing up to him, Twitch and Thrash are calling him out for letting his grief and despair consume him.

The loss of his arm and deaths of his colleagues during the height of great war between Autobots and Decepticons had since changed Dr. Meridian into a cold, brutal, vengeful and murderous scientist. He enjoyed torturing humans and Cybertronian alike, and willing to resort to anything, no matter how low he had to stoop, to get what he wanted. That included striking down those who are weaker than him or totally defenseless against him, augmenting himself into a monstrous being at the cost of his humanity, and dispose those who outlived their usefulness.

At the same time, Dr. Meridian was a highly evil intelligent villain and displayed a knack for technology. It was he who designed and improved Arachnamech robots and other gadgets in his vendetta against Cybertronians and those who stood in his path.

Despite becoming a bigger terror than worsts among Decepticons with his monstrous final upgrade reflected such fact, Dr. Meridian is still a shell-shocked veteran and tragic figure one can still symphatized to. Dot was able to relate to his pain since she too lost a limb and many friends during the war they participated him. However, he ultimately let his resentments and pain from his losses consumed him and refusing to see the reason whenever given the chance as opposed of motivations to be better than those around him; this eventually led to him paying the price for his evil sinister attitude when he died in "The Last Hope, Part 2".

  • Meridian is based on Doctor Arkeville from the G1 series.
  • Megatron was thought to be the main antagonist of the series. However, he was given the role of a protagonist instead. Meridian was given the role as he is more dangerous.
  • While thought to be dead at the end of Age of Evolution, the Build-a-Figure spoiled his survival.

They also die in disgrace and readily accept their deaths as well.
  • For the Japanese dub, he is voiced by Nobuo Tobita, a veteran Japanese voice actor in Transformers.
