~ Dr. Ned before the battle.

Dr. Ned Blanco, or Dr. Ned, is the main antagonist of the Borderlands DLC, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned.

He's responsible for everything happening in the DLC and was an employee for Jakobs Co. This was until he was exposed and fired, he's also the final boss of the DLC.

Background[]

Dr. Ned grew up with his brothers Dr. Ted and Dr. Zed, Dr. Ned at one point in his life became an employee for Jakobs Co. His job was to provide the employees with medical care, while Dr. Ned did this he eventually discovered a key to immortality and profit. Ned discovered how to create zombies, after finding out about this Ned began experimenting more and more with various employees against their will. Ned kept it all hush hush in order to keep his reputation and job, while keeping this information away from the public he continued to provide medical care for the employees of Jakobs Co. Dr. Ned soon found a way to spread this virus to other people within the company. He invited a pill which contained the zombie virus within it, he would consistently give the employees these pills during medical checkups slowly infecting the employees. Ned would end up infecting about 95% of the employees, he would then have two assistants help him with his goal of reanimating the dead. The two assistants being Bill & Frank. Little did the two know that Ned would end up killing the two, while Dr. Ned didn't mean to murder the two his zombies had done this and killed the two. Upon this Ned realized that his zombies no longer wanted raisins and muffins but rather flesh instead. Upon learning this Dr. Ned began luring warriors by telling them he needed help killing the zombies, however in reality this was merely a trick to kill the warriors to feed his zombie army.

Soon some of the employees began showing symptoms of becoming a zombie. Ned took this as an opportunity of profit and tasks the player with finding his "antidote" for the zombie outbreak. In reality however this was merely Ned trying to kill the player to prevent them from discovering his true intentions with the "antidote". It's revealed that Dr. Ned used this "antidote" on the employees he infected in an attempt to make lots of profit by selling them "cures" to their conditions. This would instead turn the employees into "Wereskags". While this wasn't Dr. Ned's intentions he simply indoctrinated them into his zombie army adding them to the already massive horde.

Personalty[]

While at first Ned seems to be an extremely nice and charismatic man who only wants to help people. In reality this is merely a facade Dr. Ned used to make people trust and stop people from suspecting him of any wrongdoings. Ned is an extremely egoistic and greedy man who's willing to do nearly anything for profit even sacrificing innocent people. Ned will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals even if it means luring people to their deaths. Ned talks about how he's not as good as his brother Zed and wishes he could be, proving that Ned is extremely egoistic and arrogant. While Ned is somewhat caring for his brother as he looks up to him, he still shows great hatred to his brother Zed simply because Zed's a much better doctor than him. Ned proves this when he taunts Zed in his own vending machines by saying things like "who needs Zed when you have Ned?". Ned doesn't seem to care much about his brother Ted however.

Dr. Ned is very lazy as he often has other people do the work for him rather than doing it himself, especially if it's something dangerous Ned will sacrifice others for his own benefit. He even states that he prefers to do his killing from bed by sending his zombies out while he stays in bed with his slippers. Ned's willing to steal his own brother's (Zed) vending machines and replace the name Zed with "Ned" all because he wishes to reach the same level of success as his brother. This means not only is Ned egotistic but he's also an extremely petty human being. Ned upon learning of the destruction that he causes doesn't show remorse for it and instead shows his sadistic side by laughing at the deaths of the employees and warriors that he ends up killing.

Dr. Ned gets extremely angry when the player forces him to get out of bed, he gets mad since they force him to get out of his slippers in response he flips them off. Ned gets extremely mad at the scent of popcorn since his former assistant Bill would constantly eat popcorn whenever he would work or record his tapes. Despite how smart Ned is he often shows incompetence as he doesn't think ahead before doing through with his plans. Upon him realizing that he couldn't profit off the zombies Ned says that he can now see as to why his plans aren't as profitable as he thought they would be. Despite this Dr. Ned often adapts to the situation no matter how bad or dire it is. Ned was willing to play the player double what Jakobs was offering them to kill him until realizing that he spent all of his money on the project for the zombies. Ned then tries convincing the player to stop showing his more coward like side. After realizing that the player was indeed coming to kill him Zed immediately drops all cowardice and confronts the player head on showing that Ned has a sense of bravery.
